A book consisting of passages written by a ventricular tachycardia patient and collated by a friend. If nothing else a loving and honest reflection of two people’s friendship. Although not explicitly clear, it was also a way to connect with his old friend even though Bernie is gone. A beautiful book before it even got started, and totally unexpected.

Bernie through his past notes has opened a door for the reader that many of us will never understand or experience. What it is like on that first day you have a ‘new and unsettling feeling’, how one person lives with the diagnose and the difference between living and just not dying. What is living and what is pushing your body too far?

I found this to be an amazing book but did struggle to keep up with some of the jargon and scientific explanations sometimes but that isn’t a fault of the book. Its just because I have no background in it, it was a great opportunity to learn though!

This book has truly made me think about the frailty of life and how when your body is struggling your mind has trouble to keep up and to slow down your previous actions as a result. It is a memoir of an intelligent and active man going through the most challenging time of his life. And it was an honour to read and witness the profound effect that he had on the people around him in his life too.
