This was a fairly good fantasy novel! I enjoyed the world and the story as well as connecting with the characters!

I am no longer interested in reading this book as I have not read very good reviews and I know this book is quite long. I do not currently have the time to commit to reading this and interest is lacking for this one.

Good and entertaining book that can be approached as a remedy for violent and gritty stories that dominate fantasy landscape nowadays. Character development could be improved, but it's just a personal opinion. I think it'll work well for younger audience. All in all, an interesting and worthwhile book.

As a fan of Arthurian retellings, this one did not disappoint. I loved all the characters. The story was very fast-paced full of adventure, magic, and humor. I highly recommend this this for fans of T. A. Baron, Meg Cabot, and Stephen Lawhead!

I am all about Arthurian tales, but this is mildly disappointing. The first scene of this story was really great, but then it slows considerably. I felt the world could have been built a bit better and more interestingly, but it was by no means terrible. It could also have been better in aspects like pace and more detail.

Great premise but not properly executed. This book had so much potential but it didn't live up to my expectations.

This was an amazing Arthurian fantasy, with a beautiful setting and spell binding characters. The old legends had the perfect twist and was written in perfect poise and atmospheric. I loved the characters and was left wanting more.

This books topic and description had me hooked from the start, I was really interested in the idea of reading books is a punishable crime. I would hate to think how many times I would have got in trouble in The Book Knights World! For me it was also reminiscence of a recent human history, making all that more shocking as something like this hasn't at a time been too far from the reality of some people.

It did at times take me a little while to get up to speed with the world's 'lingo' in the book but I think that is very common in most Fantasy. This is a book great for young adults but some of the violent sections may be a little much for the younger child - but feel free to judge that yourself!

Overall a great book and I would buy for the teens in my life!

~ I have honestly no idea why this book is being tagged as Young Adult fantasy when it is very clearly stated that it is Middle Grade, even reading it you'll come to realize it's Middle Grade. I expected a medieval YA fantasy going into this book and I was a bit disappointed to be misled. ANYWAYS... let's start.

The story follows our main character Arti as she goes on a journey to acquire this book that she believes would save her family. It generally focuses on the magic that books have inside of them (woah!), trust, family and friendship. It had a medieval feel due to it being based of King Arthur, but it did have a modern twist to it.

~ reading was a huge deal in the story which was a very unique addition this story that has been retold too many times. I really liked this theme of the book in general because of how it could be etched into the minds of the children who would get to read this book. It may stick with them as they grow older. Reading is a habit that should be acquired as a child and taken with them as they develop and learn.

~ though this book was not able to establish a strong foundation in terms of fantasy, there are still a lot of things to enjoy as the story progressed.

“bad things happen for you to appreciate the good things”
even though I believe this moral to my core, it has started to become a staple sometimes and I am fairly tired of it
it focused too much on the reading part of the story and less on the adventure
if reading was suppose to be sort of the sub plot, the author seemed to put too much attention on the fact that reading was this really rare thing and less on the fact that they were trying to save Arti’s family adn that they were in a race against time
the plot didn’t wow me
the ending was VERY similar to the ending of another book that i have ever read (i’d rather not say)

~ it was straight to the point for the most part. I did realize later on that maybe this was because of the fact it was written for middle grade and not YA fantasy.

~ the changes in perspectives confused me and some phrases were written in a different language but there was no translation as to what it meant so I was just left there wondering like "???"

~ But I like how the author was able to express the magic there is in reading, the power that letters and words have over us.

~ the characters were not made out to be the stereotypical pretty heroine that we see a lot. They had their own flaws that were acknowledged.

~ there were some inconsistencies regarding the personalities of the characters which bothered me. I think this was more in the writing. And although they were not all stereotypical, for me, they lacked depth.

~ it really showcased how there are endless possibilities in books and how you books can create its own worlds in your head. This is the very first book that I have read that revolved around that idea and it was a great idea. I just think that it could have had a better execution

~ i like the medieval vibe it gave off and was one of the books redeeming qualities. It was evident in the parts where it needed to be.

The first thing that I loved about this book was how it focused on the magic in books. For little kids to read about something like that, it was a delightful addition to learn from. It was thought-provoking but i just did not enjoy the subplots. It was fast-paced in a way that was not enjoyable for me, and I like fast-paced plots.

This is more of a "it’s not you it’s me" thing. Not that this book was bad because it had some thoght lessons and it, generally, it had a good idea and was good if you thought about sections of it individually. I just did not enjoy it as a whole.

There was too much going on and although I usually like that kind of story, I could not get myself to be interested enough. Though the plot did have a very interesting idea when you hear about it.

This may have potential if this book is in your type of reads.

As I always say, it is hard to establish a complex fantasy in one book, that’s why they are mostly written in a series. too many things were happening at once for me to appreciate everything. I think this is something Middle Grade readers should give a chance and I think this book should be given to children to try out.

Although I did not enjoy it as much as I expected, there are still lessons to be learned.

And again not a full review because I'm ill but some thoughts:

- I ADORED the characters!
- Fast Paced
- The writing was incredible

Things that threw me off a bit:
- I wish there'd of been more to the magic
- The wrap up left me wanting MORE
- Some character development needed something a little more

Reading the summary of this book it was something that I thought that I would love. I really wanted to love it so maybe I just had too high of expectations for it. The summary sounded good, but getting into it and reading it I often got lost and the flow of the book couldn't keep me interested. I honestly wanted more from it, but again maybe this was because I had too high of expectations to start with.

— I received a free review copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher! —

In a world where the corporation, led by Morgan Fay, prohibits reading, Arti Penderhagen is raised a reader by her parents. As the book begins, their home library is discovered and they are taken captive, leaving Arti to fend for herself, and ultimately find her destiny.
This book is a bit of an odd duck, taking names and a very basic plot from medieval Arthuriana, but putting it in a dystopian world and connecting the ‘grail quest’ to a book. It was a fun read for a lazy evening, even if it lacked substance!
I’m a bit torn on whether the concept worked or not, and I believe that I might even have enjoyed this more without the King Arthur connections. They do lead to some funny moments though, such as when Excalibur is revealed as a sword shaped pen, but also to a lot of predictability - when one character is called Gwen, and the other Lance - what do you expect? Sadly, I feel that the author relied a bit much on characteristics the characters are known for, and therefore didn’t flesh them out as much as would be necessary. The characters are very flat, and only ever scratch the surface, which is a pity.

I loved this book! I have just finished rewatching the BBC's tv show of Merlin and The Book Knights were a marvellous addition to my arthurian legend craving right now! All of the references and the fact that books have great power just kept me hooked. I loved the characters, the plot, the writing and the adventure! I absolutely recommend this beauty of a book!

This Middle Grade read is a fine match for avid readers. While the pace is somewhat slow, bibliophiles will value the focus on reading as pursuit that is prized as a privilege in this "Fahrenheit 451,"albeit fantastical, society. The Arthurian allusions propel this novel as a potential match for fans of "The Eighth Day," but consider it a more solid "book alike" for fans of "Ink and Bone."

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have always loved anything that was about the Isle and Arthurian. This was a retelling that I was kind of unsure about. I kept thinking that they would have gotten me. I love to read too much and I love the fantasy magical parts as well. The fact that Merl is a librarian. I don't like that Morgan is always the villain. but I guess that is how it goes. I write poetry so it being magical is amazing. I enjoyed this book a lot. There was something original about this tall even with the classic elements.

This book is pretty unique. It takes Arthurian legend and twists it. I really enjoyed this book. It's imaginative, creative, and fun. The characters are amazingly written. This book is a fresh, creative read.

This book had all of the things an Arthurian wizard would want to read - magic, heroes we can relate to, adventure, and classic epic story telling. It was a little slow to get into at first, but once I dove in it was hard to put down. The real world adaptations (Camel Lot vs Camelot) were a unique touch and brought the story telling to a new level. I am a sucker for retellings, and this one goes to the top of the list!

I really liked the concept of this book! I also really enjoyed most of the book, but I do think it could have been more.

When I saw the cover and read the blurb, I knew I had to read this! It sounded so intriguing, and the concept of banning reading was really interesting. This part of the plot really made me think and wonder what if this was really a thing.

I'm not sure how to feel about it, however. I enjoyed the overall storyline and some of the characters, but most of it fell flat with development in plot and personality. There were a lot of open motives and endings that led to unanswered questions. The world building felt rushed and I think that with a plot and concept like this, it needed a whole lot more. It felt rushed and barely-there, and it didn't help that the characters didn't really add to much.

Gal deserves a star all by herself, though. I loved her! I really enjoyed her quirky dialogue, her impressive knowledge and her spunk. She was really bright and she was definitely a character you can easily root for.

Overall, it was okay...I think it had potential, but fell flat often. I enjoyed the story and some scenes, but I don't think I'd recommend it to those who are looking for a more steady and strong fantasy read.
