Good Little Girls – Rita Herron

I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley.com as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.

The second installment of “The Keepers” series will have you thirsting for even more!!

Tinsley Jensen lives alone in a small cottage by the sea – too afraid to go out, she watches families stroll the beach, longing for freedom from her nightmares, and a family of her own. But Tinsley is the survivor of kidnapping and repeated rape – held for months before she was rescued by FBI agent Wyatt Camden – and her captor, known only as “The Skull”, escaped and is still free.

Wyatt, who was almost killed during Tinsley’s rescue, is determined to find her captor and bring him to justice. When strange things start happening at Tinsley’s home, she contacts him, believing that her captor is again close. Wyatt comes to her side and pours his heart and soul into the investigation. Drugged tea, skulls left on her porch, sightings on the beach and a looming anniversary have agents struggling to find her captor and to keep Tinsley safe.

Meanwhile, The Keepers, a secret vigilante group of women, are out for justice as well. A well-known rapist, who escaped jail on a technicality and family money, is out on the prowl again. But this time he attacks the wrong person.

Both cases collide unexpectedly, as Wyatt attempts to bring a killer to justice!

I LOVE this series!! Action, suspense and just enough romance to keep me coming back again and again for more!!

This was the second book in a series and continues the plot from the first book, so I recommend reading that one prior to this. Overall, this was a good read.

First I want to thank netgalley and the author for an advanced copy of this book for my kindle. When I received this book I didn’t realize it was second book in the keepers series! I loved this book! Tinsley jenson is a young woman who was kidnapped brutally raped and beaten by a serial killer named the skull. She had been rescued by the handsome FBI agent named Wyatt. Somehow the skull got away and now in this book The Skull wants tinsley back at any means. So tinsley who is deathly scared of the skull is coming for her and she’s never seen his face she keeps herself locked away in her cottage. Wyatt vows to keep her safe and he stays with her in her cottage but at a distance because tinsley cannot handle any touch or closeness . It broke my heart reading what poor tinsley had gone through at the hands of The skull. I devoured this book! The ending left room for another book as well so I will be anxiously waiting ! Loved how the author describes the thoughts going through The Skulls head it scared me!

Thank you NetGalley for the copy of Good Little Girls by Rita Herron that I read and reviewed.
I can honestly say that I liked this book a lot more then the first book in the series. I felt this one let the reader know what was going on and I did not feel as lost as I did in the first book. I really enjoyed this book and part of me feels this should have been the first book of the series.
This was a very good read and I am giving it four out of five stars.

This was a different kind of book for me and a new author.

A story where Wyatt (the cop) finds Tinsley after she had been abducted and held prisoner by someone named "Skull". Wyatt is able to get Tinsley away, however, Skull is not to be found.

The book definitely held my attention and had me ripping through those pages hoping that Tinsley gets over her fear of "Skull" and that Skull is not able to find her and abduct her again.

The book pretty much kept me riveted and mesmerized until near the end. I definitely could have done without the bedroom scene. I mean, it's a thriller, and I have to sit through pages of bedroom behavior because the characters want to screw? There is no sexual action (other than the deviant sexual action going on while Tinsley was abducted) until the very end. Definitely put in there to appease someone. However, that someone is not me. Could have definitely done without the 20 or so pages of the bedroom scenes.

Thanks to Montlake Romance, Lake Union Publishing and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

This is the story of Tinsley and the Skull. The Skull kidnapped Tinsley leaving her with panic attacks and unable to leave her cottage on the beach. The anniversary of her kidnapping is approaching and the Skull wants her back.

I love that the detective that saved her in the first book is still around and still protecting her. With each panic attack, he comes to her rescue and never makes her feel bad about it. He respects her boundaries, he holds her when she needs it and listens to her talk. There was a simmering attraction between them that intrigued me. I was definitely cheering for them to come together or at least spend more time together.

While the story focuses on Tinsley, the secondary characters got storylines also. Their stories were just as suspenseful as the main story and I am hoping that there could be more of them in future books in this series.

Rita Herron has made The Keepers a MUST-READ series for me. I recommend starting with book one and just keep on reading.

A terrifying psychological thriller with a romance wrapped up at the heart of it, Good Little Girls isn’t a read for the faint-hearted. It tells the story of Tinsley, the only surviving victim of the Skull, a serial killer who liked to keep his victims as sex slaves, in some cases for months, before finally killing them. Tinsley got away thanks to Wyatt, an FBI agent on her case, but the Skull remains at large.

Unable to leave her home due to crippling agoraphobia, when strange things start happening and skulls are left on her porch, Tinsley is driven to near panic. Wyatt is one of very few people she trusts, but he can’t be with her at all times, especially since the female vigilantes known as the Keepers have struck again, killing a notorious rapist who walked free on a technicality.

Rita Herron pulls no punches with her descriptions; the rapes and abuse Tinsley suffered are detailed pretty graphically and could be extremely triggering. There’s also animal cruelty, child abuse and murder, all described in what I’d call clinical detail. Not in the least titillating, it’s more a delve into the minds of victims of violent sex crimes which, for me at least, goes a little too deep to call it a romantic suspense, one of the categories it’s listed in. It’s a crime thriller with a side of romance, and if you’re considering this because it’s a highly rated romantic suspense you might want to have a rethink in light of the graphic violence and abuse. I LIKE crime thrillers, even true crime, and it was a bit much for me despite being very well written and realistic. Too much so, I think. Even true crime doesn’t delve that deeply into the psyches of the victims. I’m giving it four stars.

Good Little Girls is the second book of The Keepers series by Rita Herron. Just like the first one, Pretty Little Killers, this one is full of thrills and chills, much suspense! Once again the characters are very well defined, smartly written. They are like real people! The storyline is also smartly written, with twists and turns and a lot of suspense. Of course, there is a little romance, but not an overwhelming amount. It works for the storyline. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved it!

Good Little Girls is the second book in The Keepers series and wraps readers up in page turning and adrenaline pumping suspense.

The characters in this novel are strong and very compelling, they easily capture readers’ attention and draw them into their life, especially the heroine of the story, Tinsley, whom has been broken by a tortuous ordeal and readers can’t help but empathize with Tinsley and sympathize with all the rioting emotional turmoil that plagues her in the aftermath of that ordeal. Wyatt adds the understanding and protective hero to the story and the romance is on the sweet side as he discovers that he has feeling for Tinsley.

Thrills and intrigue lock readers in and refuse to let go as the mysterious Keepers and the Skull turn everyone’s life upside down once again. The plot flows smoothly with a steady and fast pace that draws readers along with all the suspense building events and clues to unmasking the bad guys. But this story also has another element, one that has readers questioning which side would they take if they were the ones involved in the heart wrenching and soul destroying situations. This story is a thriller and therefore readers should be prepared for all the emotional turmoil that this story could evoke and all the violence and implied rape that this story covers.

I haven’t read Pretty Little Killers, yet, (I will definitely have to read it now) but I had no trouble enjoying this story. The author does a great job of giving readers information about the first book without giving too much away, so that readers can understand what is going on and how the readers reached this point. I was kept on the edge of my seat and even found myself holding my breath and quite a few points in the story.

The suspense and creep factor about a deranged serial killer was definitely present in this read. The Skull was top level crazy and straight up evil! If I was to rate this based solely on the suspense/investigative part, this would have rated a bit higher.

What didn't really work for me was the romance between Tinsley and Wyatt. I felt it needed a bit more page time to mature. It felt really rushed considering Tinsley couldn’t even stomach a pat on the back from Wyatt in the beginning, she doesn't show a spark of awareness/attraction on her part upon seeing him again after almost a year, and on top of that, there was very little one-on-one interaction between them. In the end the little chemistry they had fizzled out and their jump into a physical relationship felt like it came out of nowhere. I don't mind a mystery/suspense read that has the romance secondary to the story but but I do need to feel some connection and chemistry between the MCs.

Rita Herron is slowly winning my heart with this suspenseful series. It is filled to the brim with suspense, a bit of blood, strong women fighting back, enough romance/sweet sexual tension to keep it interesting, and to top it all off it’s emotional and heartfelt.

In Good Little Girls we mainly follow Tinsley, Wyatt, and The Skull. We were introduced to these characters in book one, and I’m so glad we got their story. It’s a terrible and sad story at times, but the ending is PERFECT and exactly what the characters deserve.

But that isn’t all. Herron makes sure that the side characters have stories of their own. The MC’s from book one get a little update, and what I’m hoping are future MC’s get layers added to their stories. Characters that have been hard to love this far, but are still so dang intriguing.

Loved Good Little Girls, and cant wait to see what else is to come from this series!

Rita Herron can write stories.... And this one is prove of that. Just like in the first book of The Keepers series this one was amazing. Cat is in the psychiatric facility for the murders she committed in the name of The Keepers. But that doesn't mean she can be silenced. Tinsley is a prisoner in her own beach house after the month held in captive by The Skull, a notorious psychopath. Her sister Carrie Ann is facing some demons of her own and tries with all her might to make things right with Tinsley. But then everything goes wrong and Tinsley's life is in danger, once again. But hopefully Wyatt Camden, FBI special agent, can make things right and, maybe win the heart of Tinsley. And boy, did I not like Marilyn Ellis! There is something going on with her, making my skin crawl. But I just can't figure her out. Loved the story and can wait for the next book. And, of course, I highly recommend the series!
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake Romance!

" It changes us, steals our love of life, our trust and hope, our future."

This is the second novel in The Keepers series. I didn't read the first one but I was intrigued by the synopsis and the cover.

The novel begins with Tinsley Jensen, a woman with panic attacks and agoraphobia. She is also the survivor of The Skull Killer.

The Skull abducted and tortured her for weeks until she was rescued. Since then, she’s not able to go out of her house. It has been almost a year since he took her and as the anniversary of her abduction is looming over, her anxiety is increasing. The Skull is still out there and she believes he’s coming for her.

Special Agent Wyatt Camden believes Tinsley's life is in danger. He knows the Skull is not going to give up and he already has the scars to prove it. But this time, he won't let him hurt her. He will do anything to keep her alive. He's not sure how it happened but he has developed feelings for Tinsley.

Besides the cops, FBI and Tinsley, there is a group called The Keepers, who are vigilantes who take care of evil people. The Skull is already on their radar. I was very interested in learning more about the Keepers and what made them tick.

One of my pet peeves in books is a heroine who throws herself at danger. Tinsley had a TSTL moment that made me want to shake her. Thankfully, it didn't last.

Good Little Girls had a good pace with plenty of action and suspense. The Skull was a truly ugly soul. I do believe I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the first book in the series.

Cliffhanger: No

3.5/5 fangs

FBI Special Agent Wyatt Camden cannot forget the Skull case, nor its sole survivor. He feels guilty about not capturing the serial killer. When Tinsley Jensen contacts him, Wyatt rushes to her house. The frightened woman provokes unprofessional feelings in him. Wyatt intends to capture the dangerous sociopath, so the masked man cannot hurt another woman. Can Wyatt protect Tinsley from the Skull? Or will the sociopath elude him for a second time?
Tinsley Jensen is the sole survivor of the masked sociopath Skull. She finds solace in helping victims similar to her with an on-line blog. With the anniversary of her captivity looming, Tinsley suspects the Skull has returned. The only person she can trust to help her is Special Agent Wyatt Camden. When the madman targets Tinsley’s friends and family, she confronts her fears to save them. Can Tinsley escape the psychological hold the Skull has over her? Or will she be forever trapped by her fear?
Wyatt is such a wonderful hero. I love how he continually assures Tinsley she is not to blame for the madman’s hurtful actions towards her or others. He actually empathized with Tinsley over her ordeal instead of treating her with cool detachment. I like how despite it being a year since the case, Wyatt maintains in contact with her. But what I adore about Wyatt is how he always puts Tinsley’s feelings before his own. He would rather not disabuse her trust by pushing for a deeper, romantic connection; instead, Wyatt respects her need for space.
Tinsley is such a courageous and inspirational character. She is tired of being a shell of her former self. I like that Tinsley strives to take back her life by fighting her dilapidating fears instead of allowing them to continue ruling her life. I also like how she acknowledges and accepts the fact that she will not be the same person as she had once been. However, what I admire the most about Tinsley is the inner strength it took for her to share her experiences on an on-line blog. She does not do it for the attention; instead, she hopes her blog helps other victims deal with their traumas.
GOOD LITTLE GIRLS is book two in Rita Herron’s romantic-suspense series, THE KEEPERS. I sometimes felt as if I missed some important information from not having read the first book, yet it did not hinder my ability to follow the storyline or connect with the characters. This story reminded me why I enjoy this author’s romantic suspense. It made me feel as if I was watching one of my favorite criminal television dramas.
GOOD LITTLE GIRLS is a gripping tale of overcoming one’s traumatic past to take back their life. I like how the author focused more on the story’s thrilling plot than the actual romance. I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for the next installment.

As I loved "Pretty Little Killers" the first book in "The Keepers" series, I couldn't wait to get my paws on this, the second book in the series and I am fast becoming a Rita Herron fan!

"Good Little Girls" is brimming with suspense and tense situations, blood, murder, revenge and Herron even managed to fit in some romance which I usually don't enjoy but I didn't mind it within the context of the book. This was quite an emotional read, I certainly wasn't expecting it to be from the synopsis but it suited the story well.

We become reacquainted with the characters from the first book - Tinsley Jensen, Wyatt Camden and The Skull. I loved the conclusion and I found that Herron did something that is quite unusual - she gave the minor characters backstories too, not just the major ones. They aren't exactly likable in nature but they are interesting and you can't help but be intrigued by them. I look forward to more character development in future books. Hopefully, they either become easier to admire or Herron fills us in on the reasons behind their behaviour.

It's a dark and fascinating story that will stay with you long after you turn the final page. The book explores the legal world and the technicalities that can mean that the most monstrous criminals are free to roam, as a law graduate this aspect really appealed to me. There are certainly parallels to real life and the book touches on vigilantism and what humanity should/would do if criminals play the legal system to their advantage.

Many thanks to Lake Union Publishing for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This was my first book by this author but it will not be my last! Good Little Girls pulled me in from the first pages and kept me happily engrossed in the plot and the characters until the very end. Tinsley Jensen is a shut in her own home, afraid to go out until the serial killer known as the Skull is captured. While she was lucky enough to physically escape him, mentally she is still within his clutches. Helping her cope is sexy FBI agent, Wyatt. Wyatt can't overlook his attraction and protectiveness of Tinsley. He believes if he can catch the skull, while also trying to solve seemingly related crimes happening in the town, he can free Tinsley from her torment. While reading the book I couldn't help but care for Wyatt and Tinsley and I would love to see them again in another book. The book also had some good suspense. I was on the edge of my seat (figuratively) a few times during the books creepier moments! I took one star away for a few very minor things that didn't overall keep me from enjoying the book. First, I had not read the book or books about the events prior to the ones in the story. While it did not change my enjoyment, I could tell there was something I was missing in background stories. If you read the previous book I think this one will be a 5 star for you! I would not let that be the only reason to take a star though. Several times in the book I felt there were duplications of thoughts and descriptions. For example. Tinsley is very pale from not enough sun. Ok I get it. I don't have to be told that three times. Other than a few small examples of this, I was happy! Would recommend this book!
