I really enjoyed this emotional story of two people who are healing from tragic love relationships and are magically brought together. It was refreshing to read a story with a Midwestern setting and characters who lead everyday lives.

I enjoyed reading this journey of our two main characters and how they find solace and resolution in each other. This was a gripping heart felt story.

The Art of Healing was a story that grew on me. It felt a little sticky and slow at the beginning and I’ll admit I wasn’t sure about it but I then found myself drawn into the relationship that eventually developed between Julianne and Jokob. And that’s what I enjoyed because both of these characters had been through a rough time. But it was the fact that the romance grew steadily, and dare I say it, normally. The first date, for example, just as it should be, a getting to know you exercise. I thought the ongoing struggle for Jokob, and the inclusion of Keara to the tale was particularly well handled and the ending was terrific.

I liked this book.
Neither main character was looking for love. Life had been really tough for Jokob, a photographer. He had lived through becoming an unwed father at 16, a very young widower by the time he was 32. Julianna, a nurse, was stunned to learn that her husband, the man for whom she had changed her dreams, was nothing more than a superficial liar and cheater. She was still in the "men are scum" stage when she meets Jokob.
The relationship is built up slowly by the author. Most of the situations in the book were plausible, but to have all of them happen was a bit over the top. However, there is a satisfying happy ending.
This book was re-written and re-released under a different title. A Bridge to Us

3.5 stars - I thought I would love this. It has everything that is my book catnip - angst, tragic pasts, and hearts and souls that need healing. However, some of the storylines seemed to be included just for angst's sake. It's like every angst trigger was thrown in there and it just kept piling on. And the healing and accepting and clearing up of misunderstandings just came too easily. And then, to not give me the ending I wanted to have? Well, that can be forgiven with enough wine and chocolate!

This was a winner. Interesting and complex characters. The evolution of their relationship was well done and believable. Read this on the airplane and didn't look up until we landed. My first novel by this author but will not be my last!

Julianne and Jokob have both experienced heartache and heartbreak. When they meet, and finally get to know each other, they learn to live life in the now and experience everything going on around them. This book left me with a whirlwind of emotions, and once I started it, I couldn't put it down.

Love heals rate it 4.5
Julianne is a pediatric nurse who is betrayed.
Jakob is a natures photographer who has a great loss.
I like the way the author wrote the sequence 9f the time frame, it is different but effective.
Julianne and Jakop are afraid to take another chance at love.
Then something happens to clear those feelings.
Sweet ending.
Spoiler
But I would love a epilogue of the future of them taking turns being with each other, he can take pictures anywhere or she making the RV into a traveling open clinic.
