Book two in the author's "Code of Honor" series, this story continues the arc of three friends who grew up in differing but challenging situations. Together, the three friends vowed to do whatever they could to make the world a better place when they grew up.

Kristin Dane was the only girl in the Treehouse Gang, and she has truly lived her life in a way that fulfills that vow. She runs a company called World Craft, specializing in selling beautiful things from all over the world - all made by people in developing countries who are trying to make a living wage and build sustainable businesses. When it turns out that one of her suppliers may have been unwittingly compromised by terrorism, Kristin is sucked into a web of danger that she just may not get out of.

Luke Carter is currently a detective for St. Louis PD, but this is not his first rodeo into law enforcement. His wife Jenny also passed away three years prior, and saying he is a little leery in the relationship department is an understatement....so the fact that he is intrigued by Kristin is very different for him. Luke is also concerned about solving the mystery, and it seems like he and his team are hit with one dead end after another. Meanwhile, people are dying, so he needs to figure it out fast - and make sure Kristin stays safe.

Now for my opinion: I have always enjoyed Irene Hannon's books. She is on my regular "get when the new one comes out" list. I do have to say that out of all the novels I've read in the past six months in this genre (suspense/light romance), that this one was not terribly compelling for me. It was totally acceptable, and I will still give it four stars, and I will still recommend it. It probably just won't be very memorable or on my list of favorites.

Note: Your reading experience is always enhanced by reading books in a series in order, however, I think this one could be read as a standalone, or out of order. Very little reference is made to book 1 and to my knowledge no spoiler secrets are given - so, your choice!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, in exchange for my honest review.

Irene Hannon's newest book, Hidden Peril, is the second book in her "Men of Valor" series and oh, what a wonderful sequel it is. The first book in the series is Dangerous Illusions. While Hidden Peril is a sequel, it can definitely be read as a standalone book.

I thoroughly enjoy any book with Irene Hannon's name on it. It doesn't matter whether it's a sweet love story or a romantic suspense novel she does extremely well in both genres. However, I have to admit I enjoy romantic suspense novels more.

Anyone reading my reviews will know that I am a huge fan of characterization and Irene Hannon is truly gifted in this area. I thoroughly enjoyed the "meet cute" (when two characters destined to become a romantic couple, meet for the first time) for Kristen Dane and Detective Luke Carter. Some might think that meeting at a wedding reception is cliche, however, I absolutely loved it. Both characters are strong and well fleshed out. I guarantee you will fall in love with both of them.

Hidden Peril is a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat, page-turner that will keep you reading long into the night. I highly suggest this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense.

On a 5-Star Scale - 5 Stars!!!!!

Irene Hannon never fails to disappoint. This was absolutely amazing. The characters, story plot and mystery where all as good as all her others. The series just keeps on getting better and better. Cannot wait for the next in the series.

A compelling opening draws the reader in straight away, & continues to hold the attention throughout the book. Don’t think from this that it is ‘heavy’, it is in fact very readable – despite serious things happening. This is a very talented writer, who is able to write in more than one style : check out her other series, they are all worth a read. (I’m already looking forward to the next instalment of this one...) Highly recommended!

This one was a change from what I’ve been reading lately—and I absolutely loved it! In the most recent addition to her Code of Honor series, Irene brings the modern political climate to the forefront with a great plotline about Syrian refugees, hidden terrorist cells, and smugglers. And, of course, a little romance on the side!

Kristin Dane is doing her best to make a small difference in the world with her fair trade shop. But, suddenly, random people are murdered, and they seem to have connections to her shop. Detective Luke Carter is new to the St. Louis PD, but he’s determined to get to the bottom of it. What do a monastery and handmade candles have to do with the deaths of three people? With the help of some familiar faces, Luke has to figure it out—but will they realize the danger they’re in before it’s too late?

I usually snap up Irene’s books as soon as they are available, but somehow I missed the first one in this series. I’m glad that this one stands alone, but I really want to go back and read that first one! I have high standards for the thrillers I read. So many times books in this genre include terrible language or unsavory situations. I’m so glad to have an author like this who leaves those things out!

The characters are spot-on, and I love how Luke and Kristin came together. In the beginning, Luke wasn’t even open to new love, but by the end he was all-in. And Kristin was used to doing things on her own—but she was willing to trust Luke with her heart. I also like the side story of Kristin and her parents. What a great reminder that it’s never too late to start again, and there’s always room for more love in our hearts!

This is book two in the Code of Honor series. I feel it is a stand alone book, even though you miss a little history of the sub characters. I have not read book one and I followed this one with no problem. I do want to go back and read book one now though.

I love the relationship Kristin has with her two best friends. When a handsome new detective, Luke Carter, is introduced to Kristin she never expected him to become a fixture in her life. I loved the sparks between Kristin and Luke.

This novel is full of suspense, mystery, friendship, moving on, romance and so much more. I look forward to book three in this series.

Beginning with three murders, one in Syria and two in St. Louis, MO, Irene Hannon’s most recent thriller takes Kristin Dane, the owner of WorldCraft, a sustainable craft store, and FBI Special Agent Luke Carter, into the midst of an ISIS terror cell operating on their very doorsteps. The crimes are personal and the closer they come to the discovering the center of the cell, the more danger the key players will find around them.

The excitement does not end until the reader hits the “Epilogue”. The Epilogue does tie up the loose ends for the story, but it does so sluggishly and the reader quickly wishes it were over. Thankfully, it is no longer than most of the book’s chapters and does not detract from the body of the work. It might have made a more satisfying conclusion if the Epilogue had been wrapped into the “Teaser” included for the author’s next book in the series which begins with “Chaos …” Though coming from a Christian publisher, the book is light on faith; but for those for whom faith is an issue, there is little that will offend. Made into a movie, the story as presented by the author would be easily rated PG-13. This reader found the story well-done and a rewarding read.

This book will make great holiday reading for fans of the author, fans of light romantic thrillers, and fans of FBI or police procedurals.

In this book, a shop keeper who tries her best to "help out the world" is inadvertently involved in a terrorist plot against St. Louis. Kristen is an interesting character and has a depth that is amazing. Her two best friends are two guys from high school. They play a very protective role in her life. The plot moves along nicely. You are given a hint at who the bad guy is, but you may not know the "how" or "why". Luke is the detective who is assigned to her case before she even knows she is "a case". Of course, they are drawn to each other and can't wait for the case to be solved so they can explore a relationship. The ending may not be a surprise, but it is well played out.

I received an ARC from Net Galley for an honest review.

Hidden Peril by Irene Hannon is book 2 in the Code of Honor series. Kristen runs a free trade shop that features products from far away. Suddenly, her quiet shop is abuzz with action as it becomes clear that someone is using some of her products to further their evil plans. Detective Luke and the FBI get involved and a deadly plot must be foiled. Kristen wants to help, but at what personal cost? This book is full of suspense and it is a very interesting read. I highly recommend it. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

This was a great suspenseful romance. The suspense was well done but not action on every page. The romance was a good one as it progressed but for some reason, I did not sense that special connection between the two main characters, Luke and Kristin.

Hidden Peril is book two in the Code of Honor series and a great addition to the group. This book took an interesting and unexpected turn and is filled with covert plans. I enjoyed Hidden Peril and especially loved Kristin Dane and Luke Carter. The two were so different and yet fit together perfectly. Their romantic tension builds intensely and is woven throughout with the backing of suspense. I found myself rooting for several people in the story and though I figured out quickly who the bad guy was, I didn’t expect the ending to turn out the way it did. No spoilers here though. Hidden Peril is definitely a worthwhile read.

Reviewed for Hope by the Book magazine (online)

Irene Hannon’s romantic suspense is a balanced blend of heartwarming attraction, page-turning suspense, and pulse pounding climax. Readers will be inspired by the heroine’s warm, confident, and compassionate personality. Through her volunteer work with a children’s theater and the operation of her missions-funding fair-trade boutique, Kristen Dane is making a positive impact on the world. Although Detective Luke Carter is new to town and still processing his personal grief, he doesn’t deny the future possibilities a certain mutual attraction presents. His ability to focus on the case Kristen is indirectly involved in while keeping their relationship at a professional level requires an admirable level of integrity and self control. The hero is attractive, intelligent, and a modern-day knight in shining armor. While events surrounding the case seem to spiral out of control, the story reminds readers of the importance of solid faith and positive relationships.

Kristin Dane and her two best friends took a vow to make the world a better place as teens. Twenty years later she's fulfilling the promise she made as a teenager through her fair trade shop that features products from all over the world. Everything goes well until one by one , people connected to the shop start dying.

Detective Luke Carter a detective new to the St. Louis PD, needs to find out why. Before Detective Carter is able to answer that question however, the FBI weighs in and suddenly Kristin finds herself in the international intrigue and in the sights of a ruthless mastermind the one who has had his hand in the murder of those that were working at Kristin's fair trade store.

I give Hidden Peril five out of five stars!

Hidden Peril by Irene Hannon is the second book in the Code of Honor series. As in Ms. Hannon's first book, this story was filled with suspense and a bit of romance.

Kristin Danes is all about helping. The owner of a fair trade shop, she features items that helps others around the world. That is, until one of her employees ends up dead.

Luke Carter has grieved the loss of his wife, and is not looking for a relationship. But when he meets Kristin at a mutual friends wedding, things change. When the Detective is called in on the murder, his attraction to Kristin continues to spark. With a second murder of one of Kristin's customers, the tie draws them closer together.

The story, and how it all plays out, could be one of a current day headline. Ms. Hannon's excellent writing, and thorough research, had me captured by the first couple of chapters. I started suspecting the villain early on, but until it was reveled, I wasn't totally sure. This was a good suspense novel, and anyone who enjoys good clean books, will enjoy this new novel.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

It took me awhile to pick this book up and read it. Honestly, I read the Prologue multiple times, I couldn't seem to get past it. But I'm the type of person who does what I say I will do, and I commuted to reading the book and writing a review on it. So I finally just dug in, and I'm so glad that I did. This is a really great book. I love the characters and how the author developed them. The storyline waa eeally good also. Thw only flaw, waa that I suspected the bad guy almost from the beginning. In my ipinion, the bad guy wasn't woven into the story well enough. The interactions between the others characters and the bad guy was odd, there need to be more of a story with the other characters. Other than that this was a great book. I read it in one day, once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. I'm anxious to read the first book in the series now. I love how this is a stand alone book, meaning you dont get lost if you havent read the first book in the series. This would make a great gift for the book lover on your Christmas list.

Hidden Peril is the second book in the Code of Honor series by Irene Hannon. I hadn't read the first book so I had to make sure I read Dangerous Illusions first. The series follows three childhood friends who wanted to make the world a better place. They're all adults now and doing their part to fulfill that vow. Hidden Peril is about Kristin Dane who owns a fair trade shop. A series of suspicious deaths linked to her store bring her into the path of Detective Luke Carter, and unfortunately also draws her into the middle of a deadly plot.

I enjoyed the main characters in this book, but I kind of wish both of them had been a bit more flawed. They almost seemed a bit too perfect. And Luke seemed to have exactly the skills needed for every situation which seemed a bit too convenient at times. I enjoyed the side characters and it was neat to see people from previous Irene Hannon books. The story was interesting, but it was pretty easy to guess the bad guy early on. The plot did keep me interested, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I'd give this one 4.5 stars.

So enjoyed this second book by Irene Hannon in this series. Kristin has grown up with two wonderful friends that help her out of a very sticky situation. This book was filled with suspense and love. Thank you for allowing me to read.

The Treehouse Gang returns in Irene Hannon’s Hidden Peril (Book Two in the Code of Honor series). This time, fair trade shop owner and youth play director Kristen Dane is in the middle of an investigation which gets more complicated as it goes along. And the victims all seem to be tied to her shop. Luke Carter is on the case—and very interested in Kristen as more than a witness.

Hannon weaves a tale of intrigue hemmed with possible terrorists and embroidered with a healthy dose of romance. Luke makes no secret of his intent with Kristen but also makes it clear he can’t act upon it until the case is closed and the criminals arrested.

While the ultimate villain wasn’t much of a surprise (at least not to me), the events, investigation, romance, and familial relationships gave this book a lot of depth and kept the story moving along. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you to hold out for the intense climax near the end!
