Ms. Hannon does it again with another great romantic suspense novel! This is the second book in the Code of Honor series. This book focuses on Kristin (who owns her own unique business) and Luke (a police detective). After a crime occurs at her business, Luke is one of the investigators. What seems like a robbery gone wrong, quickly becomes a much bigger problem and has significant implementations. This book has many twists and turns, including international smuggling and more. As time progresses, Kristin and Luke discover they have more common interests. I thoroughly enjoy Ms. Hannon’s books especially the faith aspect. I highly recommend this book and the first book in the series! However, this book can be read as a stand-alone novel. If you enjoy reading Christian romantic suspense stories, this book is for you!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.

Irene Hannon has created another thriller with Hidden Peril. Captivating characters, intense romance and a race against the clock to stop a terrorist plot, Hidden Peril has everything to keep you glued to the pages.

Finding her shop assistant dead behind the counter of her fair trade shop was a terrible shock to owner Kristin Dane. She opened the shop to make a positive impact on the world and is heartbroken by the loss and eager to help the police with their inquiries. Detective Luke Carter can find few leads in the murder investigation, until further deaths are linked back to the same shop. When the FBI become involved, Luke and Kristin find themselves in the middle of an investigation that could have serious implications - both at home and around the world.

Hidden Peril is the second book in the Code of Honor series. Like the first book in the series there are snippets of action and an underlying tension throughout the entire book but the majority of the story is based around solid detective work. As with the first book, I love the measured pace and the authentic feeling that this brings to the story. Luke, later along with the FBI, methodically work the case, and while some parts of the investigation take time, there is still plenty of action, especially at the end. I also have to note that I loved Kristin’s role in the investigation, her determination and continued strength. Kristin faces many challenges in Hidden Peril, including grief and becoming entangled in a terrorist’s plot. She also faces more personal challenges in the form of a family crisis. Even when distraught or exhausted, Kristin demonstrates continued compassion and strength; she is a wonderful character and someone I really enjoyed getting to know while reading Hidden Peril.

There is a lot of romantic tension in the story. Luke and Kristin have a wonderful chemistry and an underlying passion that they try to keep dormant as Luke works the case. Luke isn’t sure he ever wants to become romantically involved with anyone again, thinks it might break the vows he made to his late wife. Yet Kristin seems to slip past his defences. They share a lot of playful banter as they work personal conversations into their discussions about the case.

I love the author’s attention to detail - both in the aspects of the case and in the overall writing style. It’s not hard to imagine oneself right next to the characters, as you enjoy the vivid descriptions and lush prose.

Intrigue and romance combine in Hidden Peril to create an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable addition to the Code of Honor series. I eagerly await the third book in the series by the talented author.

The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.

Irene Hannon has done it again! She is my favorite author when it comes to romantic suspense. I love how she lets the reader have an inside view as the story unfolds. I had no problem figuring out who the enemy was and felt like Hannon had allowed me into her inner circle of mystery and intrigue.

The fast paced exciting action as the terrorism plot to fund cell groups and destroy America is revealed was so intense I was on the edge of my seat and turning pages as fast as I could. No one does suspense as well as Irene Hannon!

Although the suspense takes center stage the romance between detective Luke Carter and Worldcraft shop owner Kristin Dane sizzled! There was enough heat between these two to set off an explosion of their own! Secondary characters and fellow treehouse gang members Colin and Rick added another layer of dimension to this ongoing series. I love their protective nature towards Kristin.

This story was so believable and sadly could have been pulled from the pages of the current volatile conditions we find in our world today. Hannon has done an absolutely outstanding job blending the suspense of law enforcement efforts to stop terrorism in America with a toe-curling spine-tingling romance with an epilogue that was pure satisfaction!

The third member of the tree house gang Rick, a former military Night Stalker pilot, and his story will be the next up in the Code of Honor series. This book at the top of my must-read list for next year, I can't wait to see what Hannon comes up with next!

I appreciate Irene Hannon and her amazing writing talent and thank Revell for providing a copy of Hidden Peril for review.

Hidden Peril is the second book in the Code of Honor series and is Kristin Dane's story. She is part of the Treehouse Gang that we met in Dangerous Illusions. Kristin, Colin and Rick have been best friends since they met when they were twelve years old. Colin and Rick sat with Kristin at lunch after noticing that she always sat alone. They have been friends since and each needed the friendship for different reasons. Kristin's parents have careers that kept them from spending much time with her as she grew up but provided the best nannies, after school classes and camps. Colin and Rick have been close like family. Krisitin is best woman in Colin's wedding where she briefly meets Detective Luke Carter, a new co-worker of Colin's at the St. Louis County police force. He doesn't want to be there since he hasn't recovered from the death of his wife three years ago and weddings are too happy for him to enjoy.
Kristin and Luke don't expect to see each other again but are thrown together when Luke gets assigned to investigate the murder of Kristin's assistant in her fair trade shop where she sells goods from around the world. The case is a complicated one that goes deeper than a robbery or known assailant. Kristin wounds up cooperating with not only the county law enforcement but the FBI when they start digging into the case. Luke and Kristin develop a friendship that sparks an attraction that they can't deny.
Irene Hannon always does a great job at developing characters that are real, likable and believable. Her books are full of suspense, danger, faith and romance. This one is no exception. It is an action packed page turner to the end. I am looking forward to Rick's story next year.
I received a complimentary ARC of the book from Revell Publishing through NetGalley. The thoughts and opinions stated are mine only.

I love all books written by Irene Hannon, and Hidden Peril was no exception. Hannon has a unique blend of suspense, romance, and amazing plot lines.

Hidden Peril centers around a little shop named WorldCraft dedicated to selling fair trade goods from around the world. The owner Kristin Dane, walks into work one morning to find her employee dead. One by one, people associated with WorldCraft are murdered. Detective Luke Carter is assigned to the case and develops feelings for Kristin while trying to maintain a business facade. Together, they must find a way to stop whoever is behind the murders and keep Kristin alive.

I loved the book. I stayed up very late just to finish it. I liked the archeology and history. I liked the plot and the characters involved. This book has less Christianity than her other stories. It's there, just not very prevalent. This book is number two in Code of Honor series, but it reads well on its own.

INTENSE!

Hidden Peril (Code of Honor #2) is a perfect example of why Irene Hannon is an award winning author in the romantic suspense category. From the start, Hidden Peril will grab your attention and keep it to the last page. Hannon’s plot is on point and very believable. It could happen anytime in real life. Her background research is obvious as the many details of certain things are described. (I would explain more but I don’t want to include spoilers.) Her characters are realistic, believable and you would want them to be your friends. The villains are as evil as they come. An example of that is when main character Kristin Dane had this thought, “Until she found herself looking into the face of hell.” Her addition of romance is added at the right time and always done in a tasteful manner. I was provided an ARC of this book by the Publisher and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence. I have preordered a copy of this book for my own personal library.

Thank you NetGalley, Irene Hannon and Revell for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Note I’m an Irene Hannon fan, having read most of her books, and this book did not disappoint. Book 2 of the trilogy deals with Kristen Dane the only female member of the Treehouse Gang and can be read as a standalone. The book begins with the murder of Brother Michael, a Monk in war-torn Syria, who supplied candles for Kristen’s WorldCraft store but with the subsequent murder of Kristen’s assistant a pattern develops. Kristen along with Luke, the detective assigned to the case find the connection, which puts them in the crosshairs of terrorists. The plot was well developed, as well as the main characters Luke and Kristen, with lots of twists and turns the reader will be kept on their toes. Would recommend.

Kristin owns a store that is known for helping people from foreign countries get fair trade for their products. When Kristin finds her employee murdered everyone thinks that it was a robbery gone bad, but when another woman is found murdered that has links to Kristin's store something more sinister is going on. Luke first meets Kristin at Colin's(from Dangerous Illusions) wedding. Luke has no interest in dating any women. He is determined to remain faithful to his wife that passed away. Kristin is the first woman he has met that interests him, but he has no desire to act on that interest. Luke ends up working the case of Kristin's employee's murder. Now, even if he did want to act on his interest in Kristin, he can't because of the case. But as the two get to know each other there is no escaping the attraction. As the police and FBI get closer to unraveling the case they realize that terrorism is lurking very close, and as everyone knows, terrorists are unpredictable.

This is the second book in the Code of Honor series and let me tell you, Irene Hannon never disappoints! HIDDEN PERIL was one exciting page after another! I couldn't put it down! I loved Kristin's character. She was brave and independent and no-nonsense. I love her network of friends. The Treehouse Gang take care of each other for sure. Colin and Rick were definite forces for Luke to contend with! I loved Luke as well. He was honorable and honest with Kristin. His sister cracked me up in trying to set him up all of the time. I didn't think that the person behind the plot was much of a secret, but that didn't detract from the excitement of the story for me. Irene Hannon is one of my favorite romantic suspense author's and HIDDEN PERIL was definitely an exciting adventure that kept me on the edge of my seat. I am definitely looking forward to reading Rick's story in the next Code of Honor book.

3.5 Stars

So, I totally read that in 8 hours after getting the approval email from Netgalley . . . While not as suspenseful as some of Hannon's previous works, this one kept me reading all day long!

Luke Carter and Kristin Dane are both interesting characters, and I enjoyed getting to know them and their backstories throughout the book. The storyline with Kristin and her family, in particular, I loved. While I can't say I'm a huge fan of Hannon's romances, the platonic relationships are always epic! I loved Luke's relationship with his sister, Becca, and Kristin's relationship with her best-friends-from-high-school, Colin and Rick. Talk about awesome big-brother material!

The storyline itself kept me on my toes. A terrorist plot wrapped up in handmade candles from Syria? So unique! The villain was very interesting, but I guessed his identity pretty early on, which took some of the suspense out of it for me. The ending was very action-packed and nail-biting, just the way a climax should be.

Overall, while this is not my favorite of Hannon's, it was still a fun read and worth checking out if you are a lover of romantic suspense!

CONTENT NOTE: Recommended for ages 18+ for romance and violence. [The romance between Luke and Kristin got pretty heated at times, and there was a hefty dose of physical attraction between the two. Also, violence in the way of three murders, an attempted assassination, and a suicide bomber.]

Very good romantic suspense. The book is second in a trilogy, but can be read as a stand-alone. Great characters, plenty of mystery, and sweet romance.

Hidden Peril. by Irene Hannon
A light at the end of the hallway, drew the monk to turn it off. Khalil a refuge was toiling over the desk, saying he wanted to finish a task. Hearing a whiny noise, something didn’t seem right, so he offered to help. A workbench revealed, that a terrible mistake has been made. An evil deception had. defiled this holy place.
Kristen got notice, of the death, through buying products from them for her WorldCraft business.. Had met Brother Michael, was an amazing experiment. She now had a wedding to attend to. Luke also had to attend, Colin was a new associate, as detectives. Quick in and out, after three years, he still wasn’t in a party mood. Meeting Kristen was nice, but seems she is taken. To meet her again when a co worker had been murdered, in her shop. The shop items and signs, showed him she was in deed helping others around the world. Another woman murder, she had just boughten items from the shop. Was there a connection to these three deaths, items bought in that shouldn’t have. An easy flowing plot, with characters we have known. It has twists and turns, as we try to figure out what was happening. Her books are always rich with intrigue, and leave you wanting more. Given ARC. by Net Galley and Revell for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Oh my! It will take a day or two for my heart to stop pounding so fast!
Such a great combination of action and romance. The identity of the villain wasn't too difficult to figure out, but the tense, thrilling situations are what make this book shine.
Terrorists and a coordinated law enforcement effort come together for such an action packed thriller that I actually found myself holding my breath at times hoping that the various characters would be all right, just like I would if they were a real person.
Highly recommended!
