'Big Nate Goes Bananas!' by Lincoln Peirce is another great collection of comics about a pretty funny middle school kid.

This time around, Nate's baseball team gets a new name, but could there be a name worse than the Cream Puffs? Nate is also very picky about what type of banana he will eat. Nate's favorite cereal has a contest for a new mascot, so Nate designs one, but so does his rival, Artur.

These are fun collections and I always get a few laughs out of the humor. It's timed well and this is a great series for young readers.

I admit it: I'm a Nate-aholic. Have now read maybe five or six collections of Big Nate comics by the very talented, very funny Lincoln Peirce, and have yet to grow tired of this pint-sized problem child and his friends - not to mention evil Social Studies teacher, arch-nemesis in the form of Artur (the handsome student currently dating the girl Nate pines for), or even Kim, the ... "interesting" girl who seems to think Nate is her ex-boyfriend, and uses that to inspire jealousy (and potential beatings) in her current bruiser of a boyfriend, Chester. This collection is filled with more shenanigans in which we learn Nate's very strict banana-eating policy and whether or not he wins the Hunny Bursts cereal mascot contest with a goat as his entry. Hard to believe this is the 21st collection of Big Nate comics in the book series, but truth is I laughed out loud enough reading this, I'd love to have them all on my shelf for whenever the day gets too long; not sure I could think of a better cure. 4.5/5 stars

NOTE: I received a free ARC of this title from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.

It is not as hilarious as the previous one. But I am still excited to read this series. I enjoy all the panels.

I wish to see more Gina's panels. Although she is little bit annoying, I must admit that Gina spiced up Nate's life. I think she deserved more panels.

I am waiting for the next book of this series.

A bit of too late for the review, but this is actually the 2nd Big Nate book I read. It’s still hilarious as the previous book, but maybe some of the jokes doesn’t really rub on me. But I like it as well. It fuels my need for a good laugh.

Starting with how the coach wants to change the baseball team name and ended up with “cupcake” as a team name. And then relationship between Nate and Kim (is there even a relationship there?) it makes the story getting funnier by every turn of page. Every single time, Chester who’s Kim’s boyfriend seems to find a reason to hurt Nate. Also, the question of reincarnation: when you die and return back to life, what will you become? Nate answer’s got shortened by his friends as Cheetos. On the other hand, Mrs.Godfrey wants to come back as her-self. That sends shivers down the spine for Nate.

Overall, the Big Nate series is something to look forward to. With the funny conflict between Nate and his friends and teachers, this series are guaranteed to entertain your day.

Recommend to read on a bad day and read it with an open mind, since there’s a possibility that Nate’s logic is explainable somehow. Fingers crossed that my baby in the future don’t have Nate’s logic.

I love the Big Nate books and have shared the love with my two oldest boys. Big Nate is funny and you can relate to him no matter your age. The drawings are fun as well.

Thank you NetGalley, Andrew McMeel Publishing and Lincoln Peirce for allowing an advance look at this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Star Trek: TNG portion was my favorite..."Just because something's old doesn't make it any less awesome."
Thanks for sharing that with the kids.

I know that the patrons of my intermediate school library will love this graphic novel, just as they love all of the Big Nate books. It's not Charlie Brown, but will I have to buy numerous copies for our library? Most certainly!

Librarian: So many of the kids I've worked with were huge fans of Big Nate, and I don't see this volume changing that. The comics are squarely aimed at mid-to-upper elementary, and they should hit their mark. Expect fans of series like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Middle School the Worst Years of My Life, and Captain Underpants, to be all over this series.
Reader: I'm a bit too old for Big Nate. The humor is definitely aimed a bit (lot) younger, but I can still see the appeal. They're definitely what might be classified as "boy" humor, but there's enough there that girl's should like them too.

So, this is the first Big Nate book that I've read. I allowed my 10 year old son to read it first, I felt like his opinion would be pretty helpful as he is within the age range of the target audience. Here goes, as a parent, I enjoyed the normality of the characters, I feel like most boys can relate to Nate. He's funny, a bit snarky, and awkward. I think it gives boys the opportunity to feel comfortable while they are figuring out who they are and where they fit in this world. As a fan of easter eggs, I loved the references made throughout the story. It gives future generations incentive to check out some of the books, movies, tv series that made our world awesome and inspired awesomeness for the future.

My son enjoyed the following:
- the use of language: "Hence the Demon spawn called banana bread."
(as a parent, I can't tell you how useful it is to see your child reading something in a different vernacular, I mean really how often does a 10 year old see or use Hence, henceforth etc. The ability to process difficult or different usage of the English language is incredibly important, think classics and historic documents. So, any introduction of that in modern literature is fantastic and he didn't have to pick up a historic fiction book in order to have the opportunity)
- Pop culture references (Yay for star wars and star trek, again, important that kids be introduced to things that inspired us!)
-Positive Adult Male Characters (He really enjoyed uncle Ted, he was warm and inviting)
- Great examples of teamwork (I wouldn't say that it is a replacement for playing actual sports, but it shows the benefits of being apart of a team, encouraging kids to have those type of positive interactions).

All in all, I finally understand why kids love Big Nate so much, he's funny and snarky. I will def put this on the list to order for our library.

A good book. It reminded me of the comics you'd find in a Sunday newspaper. Some of the jokes adults would found amusing. My 8-year-old enjoyed reading it and when she was finished. While some of it was silly, kid funny, I was surprised she enjoyed reading them so much because the jokes, for me, seemed to be written for someone older in mind. But she liked it, and I thought each "scene" was funny. This would be a great book to recommend to kids that hate chapter books.

This was a fun read, as are the Big Nate books I have previously read.
Thank you Net Galley for an ARC.
Another good book for your child or the child in you .

Who knew Nate would be so opinionated on bananas? I have to say that my favorite story arc was the Star Trek: TNG one - it works well for all Star Trek franchises and sci-fi nerds!

No spoilers to give away here. This is a funny book for all ages.

Thanks for NetGalley for the Adobe copy (the actual book comes out 09/18/2018).
Four (really more like 4.5) out of five stars.

These Big Nate books are seriously so adorable and fluffy. I know some parents object to the way Nate treats authority figures, from teachers to parents, but I find it fairly accurate for boys in this age range. This is the time where teachers know nothing and parents are super embarrassing.

This is one of the funnier Nate books I've seen in awhile. More characters had o_O moments than just Nate, and we had new, fresh jokes and characters we haven't seen before. So cute.

Another volume of the comic strip featuring the loveable loser who is completely different than Charlie Brown.
Some of the plots are recurring, such as the name of the baseball team—Cupcakes is infinitely worse than Cream Puffs—and Nate actually sticking up for his sister, while others I haven’t seen before, like uncle Ted babysitting, and Nate being a trendsetter.
But really, after so many, what is there left to say? If you liked these in the past, you’ll like this one too. If you haven’t seen it before, check it out. They’re usually funny.

What a great book for my kids. Both love this series of books. And this installment didn't disappoint.

The school year is ending and Big Nate and his friends have to survive the end of the year and get through the summer. This graphic novel changes scenes quickly which always keeps the readers on their toes! Big Nate, even with all of his faults, is a likable character. He faces many challenges but gets through them all in hilarious ways! From having a baseball team with a wimpy name, to constantly annoying his classmate Gina, to having his uncle, the "man child" babysit him; this book will keep you laughing the whole way through!

Big Nate books are always a hit with kids at our school library. Peirce has delivered book to keep kids laughing. The graphic novel style of the book will attract lower grade readers, and the story will keep them interested.

Big Nate is always enjoyable, and this collection is no exception. This was maybe not quite at the top of the Big Nate pile and was missing some Nate/Gina interaction, but a solid entry. Always worth reading.

Amazingly fun for all ages! Not since Calvin and Hobbes has there been a comic that so easily reminds parents and children of the joy of reading.

I taught middle school for the better part of 30 years and I see so much in Big Nate that is true to the middle school experience. The self-focus that can occur at that age is epitomized in Nate. He blithely goes through a dream world where he is the hero and the focus of all good things. In the real world he's kind of dorky and prone to get put in detention. He's generally well-intentioned, even though a bit self-centered. I laughed out loud more than once reading this. It was a fun time.

This is the second time that I've read a collection from the Big Nate comic series. Previously, I've mentioned in my review at the Big Nate: Silent But Deadly that I've tried to read one of the volumes from this comic book before. and that I wasn't able to finish it. Thankfully, I've given this series a chance because after Silent But Deadly, I could say that I'm one of those who really anticipates the future releases.

Big Nate Goes Bananas! is another great addition to those who collect all volumes. This graphic novel is for children ages 7 to 12 but as long as Nate and his friends will entertain me, I don't care what people think of me and I'm not ashamed that what I'm reading is for kids. Definitely, a great read and recommended for all readers, and for those who have a good laugh while reading.
