April Ryan is a force to be reckoned with in the White House briefing room, however I am not sure that the book showcased all of that. The book is very short, and felt very rushed and disjointed. She described her situation and what it was like to be part of the story but it was not as compelling. And i think the entire Omarosa section of the book fell so flat.

What better way to here what it’s really like on the front line from the best. April Ryan tells you like it is, ho times have changed since the trump travesty. She really makes you want to keep reading and know that the press is not the enemy of the people and they need to be the check on the president and his administration, any administration and president.

UNDER FIRE by White House correspondent April Ryan chronicles her experiences as a journalist. Unfortunately, the advance copy was archived before I was able to download it and hence my relatively neutral 3 star rating. I was curious about this book because of other reviews, like that of Senator Corey Booker who says in part, "[she] speaks to our common values, the enduring and urgent need for truth-tellers, and how the most difficult challenges can bring out the best in who we are." Ryan is a very experienced and well-respected reporter, having been named the 2017 National Association of Black Journalists Journalist of the Year.

This book was just an ok read for me. I enjoyed the inside look into reporting on the White House and I totally emphatize with April Ryan and her struggle to do honest reporting under these conditions. I personally was expecting a more intimate look inside the White House and what it is really like to be so close to this administration. Instead the author spent most of the book talking about her own personal struggles, especially with Omarosa. I enjoy April Ryan's reporting and will continue to follow her work in the future but I just did not get a lot out of reading this book.

An insider's look at the Trump administration. And, unfortunately, it's worse than we even imagined. Ryan, a reporter with decades of experience, describes the attempted sidelining of her by members of the current administration. She manages to persevere, and continues to try to stand for the under represented people of our nation. I admire her stamina. Her experiences dealing with the dreaded Omarosa Manigault are awful. It must be like being in grade school again, complete with the "mean girls" clique. I wish the author luck, and hope she can find the strength to continue in her White House career.

April Ryan is my hero. I've watched as the Trump administration has tried to silence her. And I've watched her rise above. Her story is important and offers lessons on life to everyone.
