This one was a stretch from the beginning, given that it's written from four separate POVs and also promised teen romance. BUT it was compared to Ender's Game in some reviews and I know people who like The 100, so I thought I'd give it a chance.

Unfortunately, it lived down to expectations. This book is deeply mediocre.

The four POVs were not as annoying as they could have been -- each person had their own perspective, past, and secret, so that made it interesting enough. The romances were just as pointless as expected. EVERY character had one, and they took up far, far too much time. There were some team training sequences that were sort of reminiscent of an Ender's Game dynamic, but they were extremely brief and there were probably only three or four in the entire book. The rest of the time was taken up with social and romantic maneuvering.

Even that wouldn't be so bad, except that the book didn't even have an ending. It didn't bring a first arc of the story to a close, while revealing an even bigger mystery or challenge to come in the next installment of the series -- it just ended, like someone had chopped through the middle with a machete. There are cliff hangers and then there's just poor pacing, and I'm afraid this is the latter.

I give the book three stars. I had trouble getting into the story and enjoying the characters. It’s not the first book I would recommend.
