Richard Hult succeeds not only in creating an intriguing murder mystery but also in creating characters who stay with you long after you've finished reading. It's quite extraordinary seeing how much thought was put into each single character.

Thank you NetGalley for my copy of this book.
I had read great reviews of this whodunit and thought I would enjoy it.
On the contrary. This story is written in the first person by Edward as he thoroughly describes in his diary the many ways he will try to murder his aunt. Aunt Mildred has had the responsibility of raising Edward as a young boy after his parents mysteriously die in an accident. Edward’s upbringing has not been easy for Aunt Mildred as she describes him as a spoiled, lazy, irresponsible boy, who was thrown out of a number of schools and refuses to find employment. The two do not see eye to eye and can hardly be congenial to one another. Edward wants out of this relationship, and wants his inheritance from his aunt presently and this means he has to murder her to do it.
He writes daily in his diary the many ways he will accomplish this, and the story is read from the diary.
This story was written in 1934 and for me, it just did not hold up as a good mystery. The ending is predictable and the story was uninteresting.

Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for my copy of this book. This book isn’t exactly a whodunnit, a detective story or a murder mystery of any kind, but it is interesting in its own way. None of the characters are likable, but that’s part of the storyline’s charm. It was quite a pleasant read. Not the best book I’ve read, but it gets point for the ambitious and out of the box story. It certainly is a one of a kind book and I'd recommend it to those who enjoy plot twists and witty authors, with just a hint of crime mixed in the book´s core.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

Edward, a not entirely reliable narrator, describes his hateful aunt and the various ways he plots her death. This was enjoyable in many ways; Edward's disdain for all things Welsh and basically anything his aunt likes or stands for was well described and the use of Edward's own voice to expose his failings and prejudices was clever.

Amusing and sly, but lacking in soul somehow.

Not a great fan of books written in the first person, and really did not enjoy this one.
It has it funny moments and many people will enjoy it, as it is very well written and the story really flows well and at time you can really see each persons point of view - so it is very clever in that aspect. I does pull you in, which is really a sign of a good writer, it was certainly praised by Agatha Christie and her fellow writers. I just like more of a puzzle.

"The Murder of My Aunt" is a mystery that was originally published in 1934. The story is written as if it is a diary written by the murderer. He's not a very smart fellow. He writes down all of the details about his plans for murder, and he hides the diary in his room. He looks down on everyone else and cares only about his own pleasure. His aunt provides a home and an income for him, so he lives with her even though he hates her control. He decides to kill her so he can have control of everything himself.

You know from the beginning that it can't end well for him. After all, getting away with murder when you're automatically the prime suspect is a difficult thing. The story was lightly humorous. There was no sex. There were only a few uses of bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable mystery.
