This was a quick read. Pretty interesting if you're into this sort of thing but not particularly memorable.
This was pretty humorous, but if you're easily offended, you might want to steer clear. I'll probably refer back to this often for laughs. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of the book.
This was a generally enjoyable, irreverent little work. As the title suggests it is an abbreviated dictionary with only about 600 definitions (plus another couple hundred from Bierce's "Devil's Dictionary") all of which are fun little attacks on Religion, Politics, and Society at large. Mr. Bufe has certainly met his goal of creating a book with something to offend everyone, skewering Republican, Democrats, Libertarians, the Far Right, the Far Left, etc.
While most definitions are decently entertaining, by the end of the book they seemed to get pretty monotonous, and a few of the jokes just fell flat. Others have aged in the two and a half decades since the original came out, and not for the better (some of Bierce's originals have held up better for over a century).
Overall, I enjoyed this little work. It skewers enough sacred cows to be enjoyable, although maybe space your reading out more than I did to get the full punch of the jokes.
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley.
