Sir Simon is a ghost, a professional scarer, with a business card and everything...once he even scared a BEAR (or, okay, he TRIED to). Sir Simon is excited because he's getting promoted to his first haunted house, but not so excited about the haunting chores he will have to do.

This adorable story has the cutest - uhm, I mean spookiest - illustrations. I mean, when is the last time you saw a blushing ghost eating pizza.

This book is perfect and I could not ask anything more of it. I hope there is more of Sir Simon in the future, and I will definitely be looking out for more of Cale Atkinson's work.

NOTE: I received an ARC copy of this book on NetGalley. I received no incentive to read or review this book other than said copy of work. The review below contains my own thoughts and opinions. Special thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the free copy.

Fun and cute book featuring a ghost. Not "scary" at all for young kids. Recommend for 8 and under. The illustrations for eye catching and added to the story!

Do you like this book?
Yeah because it's about ghosts! But not a scary ghost. OOoooh.

What's your favorite part of the book?
When the kid makes scary animal sounds like mooo and oink oink oink. He makes the ghost want to face palm!

What do you think of the cover?
I love it because it has a ghost and pizza. I love pizza.

Oh my goodness this book is hilarious! It's so great. The artwork is super adorable and I loved the ghost.

The ghost in this book is trying to teach a little kid how to be a scarer. The kid has no idea how to be scary though. He even puts a sheet on... The problem is, it's a pink flowery sheet. Anyway, he tricks the kid into doing all his ghostly chores so he doesn't have to.

One bad thing is the format. It was sideways and half cut off and I'm pretty sure that the pages are out of order because it doesn't make sense.

I will be buying this book for Finn however, because it's awesome.

Sir Simon, Super Scarer, is a professional ghost out on his first assignment to a house. He's sure that he'll have an easy time of it, being assigned to an old lady -- but he doesn't count on her bringing a little kid along! The kid, Chester, isn't afraid of Sir Simon at all. In fact, Chester has endless questions, much to Simon's annoyance. The illustrations are very cute and the story is sweet.

Sir Simon takes the idea of ghosts and turns it slightly onto it's ear. He's a pleasant character, in that he does not wish those he haunts any actual harm. He's doing a job. Some parts he enjoys; others are more of a chore. Add into the mix an enthusiastic child. A child who finds the idea of ghosts thrilling. Simon, as we might expect tricks the boy into doing his chores. The resulting role reversal serves to teach young readers about strengths, seeing the world from a new perspective, and empathy. The plot is simple enough for young readers to follow, inventive enough for older kids to enjoy. Most importantly, the illustrations add context, emotion, and a dose of cheeky humor to the tale.

Sir Simon Super Scarer by Cale Atkinson is a picturebook. Meet Sir Simon, Super Scarer. He's a professional ghost who has been transferred to his first house. And just in time! He was getting tired of haunting bus stops and forests and potatoes. And to top it off, this house is occupied by an old lady -- they're the easiest to haunt! But things don't go as planned when it turns out a KID comes with this old lady. Chester spots Simon immediately and peppers him with questions. Simon is exasperated, until he realizes he can trick Chester into doing his ghost chores. Spooky sounds, footsteps in the attic, creaks on the stairs -- these things don't happen on their own, you know! After a long night of haunting, it seems that maybe Chester isn't cut out to be a ghost, so Simon decides to help with Chester's human chores. Turns out Simon isn't cut out for human chores either.

Sir Simon Super Scarer is a story about friendship and taking responsibility. Simon is excited about his new haunting spot, but takes advantage of Chester, who comes to stay with his grandmother. They each have their chores, and things they need to do, but Simon tries to get Chester to do his work. I like that Simon realizes what he has done and tries to help Chester in return. Neither does a good job, but friendship and appreciation fore each other is created. I liked the illustrations, and thought that it did a good job of adding to the story and settling the mood. While the concept sounds fresh and original, I feel like have have read something similar in the past. I cannot place the title now, but as a whole it felt too familiar to me. I do have to admit that there were some formatting issues with the digital copy, making it hard to read. However, I know that this will be solved by the final print and publish so I tried not to let that affect my feelings toward the story.

A fun Halloween read. Sir Simon is the kind of ghost you'd want to make friends with. He is really friendly. He teaches readers what life as a ghost is like, and in the process he makes friends with a young boy who's not afraid of ghosts. Believe it or not, even ghosts have chores. Though Sir Simon's chores seem a lot more fun than the mundane ones we all have to do.

Though this book is the perfect new release to add to your Halloween picture book collection, this story comes with a beautiful message as well. What Sir Simon and the young boy teach readers, is that despite having differences, you can still be friends with those who are different than you.

If the story and the message weren't convincing enough to pick up this book, the illustrations are. These illustrations are lively. I've never thought of a ghost as cute or adorable, but Sir Simon is. Cale Atkinson is one of our favorite illustrators. When you pick up this book, you'll see why. If you're looking for a new book to add to your Halloween picture book collection, add this one! Really, this one can be read all year long. I'm sure Sir Simon would agree. After all, ghosts like Sir Simon love to hang around all year long.

This creative book had a great story and illustrations. It was hard to read aloud though. We have loved Cale Atkinosn's other books.

This funny ghost story follows Sir Simon the ghost as he gets his first house to haunt. This story was super cute and the friendship theme is one that any student could benefit from hearing. I would definitely recommend this as a read aloud for elementary students.

This might be the funniest picture book that I've seen in a long time. Sir Simon is an extremely lovable character. His ghost chores are hilarious and on point. I can see myself using this book to plan my elementary school outreach. I think there could be a variety of fun activities to go with this book. It is too advanced and long to share at storytime, but I will definitely be putting it on my librarian recommendations shelf when my branch's copy arrives.

Simon and Chester are unlikely friends but sometimes those are the best friendships of all. Chester finally gets to haunt a house. He was tired of haunting bus stops and potato patches. The house is big and a nice old lady lives in the house. This haunt is going to be easy! Until Chester meets Simon and Simon is full of questions. He pesters Chester with all these inquiries. Chester things that maybe Simon could do his dirty work and teaches him the ropes of ghosting. Things don't go according to plan but Simon and Chester realize that being friends is what matters. Great for reading aloud especially during this Fall Season.

What a funny book about a ghost & the way he portrays himself as a professional haunter. He is very clever in his ways. Along comes a kid & together they work through chores and haunting. It's a not so scary book to read to kids about ghosts year round & at Halloween time.

Sir Simon: Super Scarer is one of the cutest children's books that I've read in a while! I smiled the whole way through! I couldn't help but laugh at the adorable little facial expressions, and the issues that Simon runs into when he finds out that the tenant in his first ever haunted home is actually a little boy who just wants to be Simon's friend. the artwork is stunning, and make the story that much more wonderful. I am hoping to see more books with Sir Simon in them, and soon!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I truly appreciate it!

This book was published on September 4, 2018

In my fourteen years of parenting, I have checked a lot of closets, I have turned on a lot of nightlights, I have checked under beds and snuggled with my kids (and dogs!) during storms.

Fear of the unknown, make-believe or real, happens to all kids. A safe and reassuring way to help our kids work through normal fears is through reading. Children are able to visit the dark and look at the monsters and scary things all within the comfort and reassuring arms of their grown-ups.

Sir Simon, Super Scarer by Cale Atkinson is the perfect book to read with your child to help begin conversations about what scares them. Simon is a ghost, who wants to not work so hard and he is excited to learn the woman moving into the house he haunts is a "grandma." Grandparents don't take a lot of work and Simon can't wait to get to work on all the hobbies he hasn't had time form. It all goes awry when a little boy moves in as well and won't leave Chester alone. Chester devises a plan that keeps the boy happy and Chester free until he realizes what he really needed was a friend.

'Sir Simon: Super Scarer' by Cale Atkinson is another surefire hit from Tundra Books. They are my favorite kids publisher and it's because of books like this.

Sir Simon is a ghost. He thinks he's struck gold when he finally gets a house to haunt, but that brings it's own problems: ghost chores! Yes, ghosts have chores and someone has to do them. Th‌ings are going well in the house, until a kid named Chester shows up and he can see Simon. What happens next is a fun story about seeing things from another perspective and finding friendship in unusual places.

I really loved this book. It's funny and the illustrations are just great. I liked grouchy Simon and innocent Chester. I really liked how the story changed and the gentle lessons involved.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Tundra Books, Penguin Random House Canada, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

This was super cute and fun! Sir Simon could be positively adorable, and the illustrations were pretty good, especially of Simon and his facial expressions. Good story which had me smiling the whole book. Chester and Simon are a wonderful pair and I'll definitely be back for any more books about these two!

4.5 stars. This is my kind of spooky story–not scary at all and completely adorable! The main character is the most loveable little ghost and it was so fun to hear him explain all the ins and outs of his job and his complaints about all the chores.

When a kid unexpectedly factors into his plans he learns some sweet lessons about friendship and understanding another’s perspective. The interactions between the boy and the ghost are so much fun.

My kids loved the silliness in the story and we have reread it many times. All the illustrations are adorable and complement the story perfectly.

I think it would be fun to read this book around Halloween time since it features a ghost and a ‘haunted house’ but it’s definitely perfect for reading year round.
