Harriet lets her friend Charlotte watch her four year old daughter, Alice, for the day. Charlotte takes Alice and her children to a school fair. Alice disappears at the fair. The rest of the novel deals with the past and present of the two protagonists and the why and wherefore of the child’s disappearance. It is very well written and almost compulsive reading. The more you learn about each woman, the more you want to know. Thanks to Net Galley and Simon and Schuster for an e-Galley for an honest review.

I really loved this book. Couldn't put it down. Wasn't deep or intellectual, but the character development was very good. You could understand where each person was coming from, even if you weren't sure about their actions. I will definitely look for this author in the future. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! If anyone is looking for a great psychological thriller....this would be the one to pick up next! The story is every parent’s nightmare......where is my child and who took her? And its also every caregiver’s nightmare.......how could this happen while I was watching her? It’s about “friends” who we find out as the story unfolds, have a very complicated relationship. Charlotte is divorced and has three children. Harriet is married and has one child who she has never left in the care of someone else before... and now her Alice has disappeared. The story takes you from present to past and back throughout the book in order to learn about the relationships of the characters and how they got to where they are today. As usual in this type of book, things just ARE NOT what you think they are, and i had to quit trying to figure it out as I went and just enjoy the words! The story has all the components of a great psychological thriller.....I do wish there would have been a bit more character development for me....who always wants more details! And i liked the way the story ended too...it probably wasn’t exactly what I expected...and that was a good thing! Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Net Galley for allowing me to have an ARC of this book in return for an honest review, which this was.

Loved reading this book! I couldn’t put it down. I should have been wrapping Christmas presents, baking cookies, or cleaning my house for company but I kept reading this gripping novel instead. I wanted to find out how Charlotte and Harriet resolved things, though I can’t say more without spoilers. Her One Mistake is a fast paced, well-written story for all women that challenges our expectations of marriage, child rearing, and the bonds of friendship. A must read! Received an advance copy from NetGalley for an honest review.

Her one mistake by Heidi perks is a emotional rollercoaster. Following harriett an Charlotte best friends. One day Charlotte agrees to take harriers daughter to the fair. All she had to do was keep a close watch in her. She takes her eyes off of her for a brief moment and in that moment she is gone. What happens next will grip you to your core. His book has many twists and turns and an end I didn’t see coming! A must read fast paced thriller!!

Oh, the missing child genre. Every year there are a few of these titles. Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks started off slowly, picked up speed, then lost me. Maybe this plot has been done too many times to hold my interest, but overall, this title fell flat. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

It is every parent’s worst nightmare. Your child has been abducted. You have never left your child with anyone else and decide that your best friend is the best choice to look after your child. Except she wasn’t watching your child.
Her One Mistake is an enthralling thriller that will force you to stop everything you are doing to find out what happens.
Harriet has never been apart from her four-year-old daughter, Alice. But Harriet’s best friend, Charlotte, has been trying to convince her she needs some time apart and is always offering to keep Alice. Harriet finally caves, needing to take a class for a potential job. With Alice and her own children in tow, Harriet takes them to the school fair where the children play and return from a ride without Alice. There is no sign of the child and nobody saw anything strange.
This book will really make you think about all sorts of things. What was Charlotte doing when Alice went missing? Was the number of kids she was watching too much for her? What about Harriet? Why has she never left her child with anyone in four years?
There are so many twists and turns in this one! I did figure a couple of things out which is why I gave it a four star rating instead of five.
This is an extremely well written, easy paced psychological thriller that is due on shelves on January 8, 2019. Definitely pick up a copy!
Thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a little slow going for me. Maybe it’s because I just finished one of the best thrillers of 2018, that this one fell a little short for me.
I think the idea of a friend losing your child (not a spoiler) is quite an interesting concept, and it could have gone a multitude of ways.
There was a small glimpse of social media, and how awful people can be, portrayed in this book. I think that Heidi could have really used those moments to beef up the sorry, to add some suspense and allude to other possible scenarios. Maybe this book lacked the aggression that I believe would be present in real life?
The story takes a turn a little halfway through that I wouldn’t say was expected, but didn’t come as a total shock either. I did, however, enjoy the way the story ended!
I’d definitely recommend this book, if you’re into a more low key thriller.

I enjoyed the author's writing style and how the story was told from alternating points-of-view between Charlotte and Harriett, but I had to think it was pretty predictable at the end. I enjoy reading books that have surprising twists instead of ones where I feel like "I knew that would happen" or "ho hum, big surprise there".
Charlotte and Harriett both keep secrets from each other even though they are close friends. I can understand Harriett's thoughts about her relationship with Brian and why they were together, but I wish she could have shared that with Charlotte. I guess she wanted to, but was scared for herself and especially for her daughter Alice. I felt like this was just another 'sleeping with the enemy' story.

Disclaimer…..as a mommy this book was a little hard for me to read at times. Not going to lie while and after reading this my hubby and I had some little people in our bed to make me sleep better.
Her Only Mistake was an amazing story about secrets, friendship and heartbreak all the while you are trying to figure out all the who did it and why! Heidi Perk did an amazing job filling the pages with twists and turns and major OMG moments!
I look forward to reading more from Heidi Perks!

I’d really want to give this book 3.5 stars. It was so good because I’m very rarely left surprised by the direction a book goes, but it left me wanting for more closure.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This novel has an unexpected twist. It makes the reader ponder the ethics of knowingly hurting someone else in order to save yourself.
It would make a great book club choice for the discussion value.

I really was glad I got to read this book as a preview. I don’t usually read psychological thrillers but really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the characters but there were so many surprises I didn’t see coming. Would recommend this book and it will keep your interest till the very end.

Every parent's nightmare, a child goes missing at a school fair. This engrossing narrative, focusing on the missing child's mother and her best friend who was watching the child when she disappears explores their relationships with each other and those closest to them as their secrets are slowly revealed.

Every parent’s nightmare, a child disappears. Dark secrets are exposed as an investigation into her disappearance ramps up.
This compulsive read is written from two perspectives, one of mother, Harriet and the other, Charlotte, Harriet’s only friend who’s inattention allows the successful abduction of young Alice. The writer humanizes these two women and I sympathized as each try to maintain some semblance of normal life despite desperate circumstances, their volatile emotions and judgement by peers, journalists, strangers.
I continuously searched for clues as an armchair detective. Harriet’s husband was my first suspect - an extremely unlikeable guy with a dark side and controlling nature who liked to play mind games. But this was too obvious and the author is just trying to throw me a curveball, right? Other puzzle pieces materialized and compelled me to push to the end.

Do you ever really - really know someone or know the life they lead behind closed doors?
I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
What a book -
Charlotte is asked to watch her friend, Alice's daughter. She takes them out and while watching the children play and checking her phone - Alice's daughter disappears.
Then begins the questions for each family. You will feel the emotions, you will question your thoughts and finally you will wonder - and - what would I do?

As a mother, this story was hard to read. Can you imagine not knowing where your child is?
Charlotte was supposed to be looking after her three children and Alice, her best friend Harriet’s daughter. She only took her eyes off of them for a second. But when Charlotte’s children return from a school fair ride and Alice is nowhere to be found, Charlotte panics. Harriet is devastated and can no longer bring herself to speak to Charlotte. But as the police bear down on both women trying to piece together what happened to Alice, secrets begin to surface.
This fictional tale had my heart beating and stomach in knots, hoping for the safe return of Alice. Charlotte and Harriet felt like women whose shoes I could easily step into as Perks wrote characters I could empathize with. The women tell this story in alternating points of view, flashing back and forth between the past and present, which I found added to my sense of suspense while reading. Don’t you love a good twist? All things are not as they seem and a couple of good twists are delivered. I won’t say I saw them coming, but only that I sensed something wasn’t quite right and couldn’t put my finger on what it was.
Although the story is a tad slow in places, I still felt suspense throughout, so plugged along through the slower parts. After several uninspiring books in the genre, Her One Mistake was an excellent read.

This was a debut novel and overall, I was impressed! I definitely wanted to find out what happened to Alice. My heart felt for both Charlotte and Harriet with the disappearance of Alice. I could only hope they would find her. I enjoyed the way Ms. Perks told this story; the way in which the characters' pasts were told to the reader.
I was not expecting the twists this book held and this book held me captivated. Towards the very end of this book it felt a little much to me, but I was still able to go along with the story and see how everything played out. And I would definitely be interested in reading more from this author. If you enjoy books that only show pieces of what's happening and letting the reader understand bit-by-bit as things unfold, then be sure not to miss this read!

This was a great fast paced psychological thriller! When i got to the ending I was blown away, how did I not see that with all the little hints leading up to it!!!! The plot was wonderful and i felt it was well fleshed out. It kept me turning every page! Harriett and Charlotte were excellent to read and I immensely enjoyed them as characters! Very very well written!

**I received this galley at no charge from Netgalley with the understanding that I would write an honest review. No other compensation.
Heidi Perks is a new-to-me author and I am definitely going to be reading her other books! "Her One Mistake" was good, I enjoyed reading it, and it was engaging for the most part.
The switch between the first person narrative to a different character midway through was off-putting although I understand why it was done. The chapter switches between characters and "Before" and "Now" also worked to create some confusion and interrupted the smooth flow of the story. Some chapters were a little choppy and mixed too many voices and I didn't care much for that. On the whole though, the story was entertaining and the characters did draw me in so that I cared about what happened to them - for me, that's an important point.
If you read a lot of twisty psychological thrillers, by about 1/3 of the way through you'll see the breadcrumb trails lead in two distinct directions....it's very nicely done without giving away the "for sure" end game.
The fact that I will seek out her other books should stand as a recommendation for you to get this one! Enjoy!
And thank you Netgalley!
[NOT REALLY ANY SPOILERS BELOW BUT MAYBE MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU WANT TO KNOW]
About 1/4 way through I'd pretty much figured out what was happening - if you've ever had the kind of relationship Brian and Harriet have, you'll feel the vibe right away so the storylines may lead you in a certain direction right away. I'll just leave it at that.
