This picture book is a short, fun, and sweet . Sometimes I read at story time, and this is exactly the type of book the children enjoy. It is a short, rhyming read that children would have fun with. I would definitely recommend this title.

This is a great book for times that you don't feel like reading a long story. The dog gets dressed up as different roles/occupations and the rhymes are fun to read. My grandson really enjoyed this and laughed at the illustrations.

This is a cute, rhyming picture book that could be read to young children to start various discussions about occupations, what to do when you are sick, pets, and more. It is perfect to read at story time in a pre-school or kindergarten classroom. The illustrations are colorful, whimsical and simple to support the text. A great book for a home, classroom or school library.

Erin is sick at home and bored. Lucky for her, she has her dog, Simon to keep her occupied. Simon puts up with her playing dress-up and has a lot of fun along the way. As she places one hat after another on Simon, we see him in various roles (firefighter, police officer, pirate and more) as imagined by Erin. My grandchildren really liked the illustrations and thought Simon looked pretty funny dressed up. As Erin tires, out and falls asleep, Simon gets his revenge.

This was a fun read with my youngest. The pictures and basic story were enough to keep her interested the whole time. Not a hard read, but an enjoyable one.

Thanks to NetGalley and Xist Publishing for providing an electronic version of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I was drawn to this book because of the darling dog illustration on the cover. The rhyming story shows Erin, a child sick at home and bored, place myriad hats on her good-natured dog Simon and imagine him in the various occupations they represent.
I really liked the illustrations and think they would be appealing to young readers. It’s hard not to get a kick out of Simon as he wears a fire-person’s or pirate’s hat. The story itself was not as compelling to me. While there is always a fine balance with children’s books, I couldn’t help but wish the narrative had been more developed.

If a Dog Could Wear a Hat is a very cute book that is amusing for adults and little ones. Erin is home sick and resting with her dog and she starts imagining what kind of hat her dog could wear if he could wear a hat. The dog, obviously is less than thrilled with this game, but plays along for a bit. Once Erin gets tired and goes to sleep, the dog gets his revenge. Erin wakes up with a red wig/hat and doesn't know where it came from. The last page shows the dog winking.
The pictures are very well done. There are bright colors for little ones and I liked the different hats and professions they covered. The story is very cute and little ones will laugh at Erin in her wig at the end. I'd recommend this for kids ages 1-3.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book had way less words than I expected. The setup in the ARC made it hard for me to see just what they author wanted to do. I think it would be a good board book for babies and toddlers because of the bright colors and few words.

Cute story to read aloud to your child or students. Loved the pictures and subtle rhyming. I enjoyed the imagery that Erin uses throughout the story.

IF A DOG COULD WEAR A HAT is a delightful rhyming picture book about Erin, home sick from school. As she spends her time dressing up her little doggie in hats, we wonder, “If a dog could wear a hat, what would he do? Would he be a pirate or a Viking or a sailor of a canoe?”
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are mine.

I loved the rhyming in this book but thought some of words were too big for my daughter, who is 4years old. She loved loved the hats and wanted to pick out her own for the dog.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Xist Publishing for my unbiased opinion of the book. I loved this very simple beginner children book. Great graphics and cute story!

A little pigtailed redhead is home in bed, apparently sick, if the thermometer and her sad face are clues. Looking for something to pass the time, she dreams in rhyming couplets of her dog doing various occupations, based on the hat the canine wears.
As you would expect, it’s too cute for words. Though relatively simple, the art shows exactly what it needs to and nothing more. Erin’s smile is so infectious, which is perfectly shown on a page near the end where she’s sitting on the floor surrounded by hats.
Ends with a twist!

Cute tale! I think little ones will enjoy it. The rhymes worked well and could be used to teach a unit on poems. The illustrations were cute. I'm thinking the book could also go well with a story time about community helpers and the hats they wear.

This was a cute children's story! My kids enjoyed reading it with me.
A little girl named Erin is sick in bed and imagines her dog in various themed hats.
Cute graphics and a quick and fun read!

Such a cute story about a girl who is home from school sick and decides to use her imagination. She imagines her dog wearing different hats. She even decides to get some hats and other headwear items out and makes a bit of a mess. Soon she falls asleep and when she wakes she has a red wig on her head. She has no idea how it got there, but her dog Simon does, This is a great story to read to children at home or in class. You can ask the children questions about each hat she imagines Simon wearing. For example, one hat she imagines Simon wearing a fireman's hat. You can ask your child(ren) who wears a fire hat and what job those people do. This can be a fun read and also an inquiring and educational read.

Cute. Erin is home sick from school so she begins to imagine what it would be like for her dog to wear all sorts of hats. Simple, colorful illustrations throughout. A policeman's hat, a fireman's hat, a pretty wide-brimmed hat--lots to choose from. Upon tiring of the imaginings, Eric take take a nap. When she awakes, she finds something on her head. Who (or what?) put it there and what can it be. A sweet and short easy read with rhyming text (that works) for the Pre-K set.
