Readers of Dee MacDonald's Runaway Wife met Connie McColl and the new adventures she added to her life. Well, it is about time for more change and her ordinary life is about to become extraordinary. Previously, she divorced her husband of forty-one years. Lately, Connie has been giving flower-arrangement lessons and, quite truthfully, was becoming quite bored. As it seems, Connie has discovered "The Box", a box which contains proof of Connie's past. Having been adopted at age five, she is more than intrigued.

To identify the contents of The Box, Connie will have to leave her comfortable home in England and travel to Italy, especially if she wants to find out about her past. She hatches an ingenious idea - she will buy a caravan and make the trek that way. The thing is, she and her family know she could never make the trip alone. After spending time with two ladies there were in her flower-arranging class, Gill and Maggie, a true plan is hatched. Although their friendship is still rather new. the three ladies decide to travel together.

While I wasn't too sure what to think of three nearly septuagenarians on a road trip, by the earliest chapters, I was happily along for the ride. Not only was the adventure exciting for the ladies, but for me the reader as well. Things are not simply smooth sailing. Connie needs to know what is in store for her, Gill is seeking the love of her life and Maggie has a secret, something that could derail all of their plans. The story had an element of mystery and danger as Maggie just barely stayed one step away from her ex.

I enjoyed reading The Getaway Girls. It is great fun, has excellent pacing, and was easily read in just a few hours. I so enjoy a story that can make me laugh out loud and this book certainly did just that. It also had quite an enjoyable romance story and, in all, is tender and truly sweet with a fun conclusion. I look forward to reading even more from Dee MacDonald, and it may seem like I am going backwards, but I am putting the previous title, The Runaway Wife, on my TBR list.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Before I start, I want to say a big thank you to Kim, from Bookouture, for the front cover quote for this book! Very proud to see my blog name in print!! This is the second book I’ve read from this author. The first book The Runaway Wife is where we first meet Connie McColl. If you haven’t read the first book, I certainly recommend you do! This book, however, can be read as a standalone novel.

I loved Connie’s character in the first book and The Getaway Girls carries on with Connie’s newly found single life. Whilst at a flower arranging class, she meets Gill and Maggie and finds that they are both in the same frame of mind as what Connie is – it’s time to have a holiday! They are all very different characters, but agree to go on holiday together for the holiday of a lifetime! Connie, again, takes us over the Channel where they travel through Europe in their luxury camper van!

Connie, as in the first book, is just one of those characters that you can’t help liking! Yes, she can be overpowering sometimes but she’s just a woman who, after many dull years of marriage, wants to enjoy her life anyway she wants to!! The glamourous Gill and the downtrodden Maggie have their own different reasons for wanting to get away with Connie and it was a refreshing change to have a ‘romantic comedy’ where all the main characters were nearly 70!! These ladies certainly know how to give these youngsters a run for their money and prove the saying ‘you’re only as young as you feel’!

It was a heart-warming story, with a little bit of romance and a lot of laughter! The locations were described beautifully as they travelled through Europe and I loved the different tales, reasons and eventual outcomes for each of these wonderful women! A lovely story, easy to read and absolutely perfect for the summer!

I loved the first book and the second didn't disappoint! It was a fun read as three elderly ladies adventured down France and then Italy as far as the Amalfi Coast. The scenery was wonderful, the banter funny and the situations they found themselves in made me wonder how it was all going to end. It is a really entertaining story, letting us believe that the third age is the start of a new phase of freedom, not the beginning of a long decline. and will make us look at the older generation in a new light!

The writing flowed, there was plenty of intrigue going on in the story and the places we visited and the people we met once again made this author's story a delight.

I'm hoping there's a third one coming, because I need to know what happens to Connie next!

Another road trip with Connie! I very much enjoyed the first book, largely because the heroine is a "mature" woman, and was delighted to see this follow-on but don't worry if you didn't read the Runaway Wife as this stands just fine on its own. This time around Connie has two friends, Gill and Maggie, along with her as she makes her way through France and Italy. There's also a bad guy out there keeping track of them, which adds a little menace but not a real threat to what is otherwise a fluffy travelogue. That's not a criticism but rather a bit of praise. All three women are a delight, as each is different and all are funny. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Perfect summer reading!

I needed a break from dark, psychological thrillers. And this book billed itself as a “hilarious feel-good summer read”. First off, the publishers set themselves up because it’s not hilarious. I’d call it mildly amusing. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a sweet book, but I was lead to expect something else.

Three gals in their late sixties decide to head off on a road trip to Italy. One of them has a darker secret than the others, which puts them all at risk. As I am not much younger than them, I found it impossible they didn’t understand how they were being tracked. Or do I read too many mysteries?

This is enjoyable but nothing special. An easy, fast read that will entertain you for an afternoon. Don’t expect too much and don’t believe the hype and you’ll be fine

My thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.

Connie was back along with her need for adventure. My second book by author Dee MacDonald, had me reading about the travels of Connie in a motor home along with acquaintances-turned-friends, Maggie and Gill.

The story had the girls going on a journey from UK to Italy, in search of Connie's roots, with scenic stops on the way. It was lovely to see three women who were nearly 70 enjoy driving the camper and taking life as it came. The men whom they met along the way, brought in their flavors: lust, danger, love. Oh yeah! These women were hot and happening!!

I enjoyed the previous book of Connie by this author, as it had more of Connie's thoughts and self-discovery. This book had more descriptions of sights and places. I liked the women, they were fun and unapologetic about living life fully. For me, the deep emotions and humor seemed missing from this read; I couldn't connect much with Connie, and I missed her.

On the whole, a good cozy read which left me wishing to be like Connie, if and when I reach 70

I wasn't sure where Dee McDonald was going to go with Connie, her main character from the previous book, The Runaway Wife, but if anything I enjoyed this book even more than the first as it incorporated two great sidekick characters, Maggie and Gill, who together with Connie drove across Europe in Belle, Connie's newly acquired camper-van, to see if Connie could find out anything about Italian relatives she had just found out she had.

The three characters were so different and didn't even know each other that well initially, but through their journey became much closer. As in the last book they got into lots of amusing, and some risky (Maggie and the hidden cash!) escapades on their journey, and met some great people who helped them out on their journey. You have to admire three 70-something ladies just taking off in a camper van without really knowing much about camper vans or driving across Europe.

They all evolved in character as they went along and shed their hang-ups a bit (and Gill had a haircut and got rid of her beehive!) and just relaxed and become more laid back and European I suppose as they went along. Great ending too, absolutely perfect, and even better I hope it will lead into another book on Connie's adventures, as you can't just leave it there Dee McDonald!

Absolutely fabulous book, I really love Connie's adventures and really, really hope that they continue as I for one will definitely be reading about them.

You are never to old to have fun or to change course ...

I have not read the first book, but I did not have any problems picking up the story in this one. They can easily be seen as stand alones, but I have to admit this one makes you want to read the other one as well.

The author takes us on a lovely trip through France and Italy. She has written the story in a way that, at the end of the book, you feel like doing the exact same journey.

It's a beautiful story about three women who, not only get to know each other, but learn a lot about themselves too. It's filled with laughter and happiness but some sadness and suspense are added to the mix.

Thank you, Dee MacDonald, Bookouture and Netgalley.

This is a delightful story about three older women who decide to take a roadtrip to Italy together. Each woman has issues that they are working through and they work through their problems together on the trip while enjoying some wonderful food, drinks, and scenery. This really is a perfect summer read that will make you smile. All three of the ladies are likable and I really enjoyed reading about all of their adventures. The author does a nice job of describing the different places they visit and adds quite a few quirky characters along the way to keep the story moving. It is a fun book to read.

I absolutely loved this follow up to The Runaway Wife. I fell in love with Connie all over again as soon as I picked this book up. Add in the loveable Gill and Maggie and a trip of a lifetime around Europe with several bumps in the journey along the way and it's a winning combination again. Please tell me there'll be a third book!

Suffering from the so-called travel bug myself, I love road trip stories. It doesn't really matter to me if I have visited those places myself, as reading about them makes it feel as if I were on a mini vacation in the first place and I love discovering new places to visit... But when I found out part of the story was set in Italy, I was sold. I have such great memories of this country and I couldn't wait to discover what the main characters would encounter! I picked up The Getaway Girls on a day I really needed something light, entertaining, fun and engaging to distract myself, and this story delivered exactly that. I LOVED that the three main characters are seventy-year-olds and that they going on a road trip together. The character development is spot on and I really liked just how different their personalities and backgrounds were. It was great to see how they reacted to each other and they journey, and I had a wonderful time following them on their journey. It's not all fun as they are trying to run away from Maggie's dodgy partner Ringer, and I really liked that aspect of the plot as it added a little suspense to the whole story as well. But my favorite part of The Getaway Girls has without doubt to do with the descriptions of the places they visited. It almost felt I was on vacation in France and Italy as well! A welcome distraction from the cold winter months down here in Argentina... I had a blast reading this story and I liked how each of the three main characters got her own ending. It's definitely made me curious about The Runaway Wife as well as I really liked Connie's character! If you are a fan of the genre, this one is a must-read.

If you love a good road trip story with well developed and interesting characters, lots of sightseeing, funny moments, a dash of suspense and a dose of romance that is just right, you will love The Getaway Girls as well. I had so much fun following Connie, Gill and Maggie around and I loved the fact that they were seventy-year-olds, as I don't see older main characters around that often. Entertaining, uplifting, a pinch of suspense and a healthy dose of summer romance... This story will make you forget about your own problems for a while as you join the main characters on their journey.

After reading several deep, tear-worthy books, I really wanted to enjoy a light, yet still entertaining, read. That’s exactly what the Getaway Girls was. Overflowing with humour and hilarity, this novel often had me laughing out loud making a huge spectacle of myself.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dee MacDonald for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Connie McColl isn’t new to spontaneous road trips. Dee MacDonald documented Connie’s first impulsive journey from England to Scotland in her book The Runaway Wife. Now Connie is on the road again, but this time she has two more passengers, a bulky motorhome, and dreams of possibly locating extended family in a little town in Italy. What starts out as a leisurely sight-seeing trip from London to Amalfi, Italy, becomes a grand getaway as seventy-year-old Connie and her equally mature friends evade a dangerous criminal who is dead set on pursuing them along their route!

The Getaway Girls is a satisfying departure from my usual heavier book fare, yet it does not lack any thrills or drama. Connie, Gill, and Maggie are definitely forces to be reckoned with: resourceful, strong, and determined to live their lives to the fullest regardless of the cost.

This book has a nice, easy flow and features instantly likable characters who are full of… well, character! It is a light-hearted, enjoyable, and humorous summer read. It will make you long for the sights, sounds, (and food) of France and Italy, and may put a little wanderlust in your own heart!

**Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for the opportunity to read and review a free ARC of this book.

So I laughed at ‘The Runaway Wife’ where Connie gets fed up of dishing up dinners and babysitting her grand kids and goes off on an adventure in her car up to Scotland and I laughed at this, the follow up...Connie, having left her hubby of 41 years on her return from her adventure, is living in London and running a flower craft group....here she meets 2 characters Gill and Maggie and she decides to buy a luxury motorhome ( Bella ) and go on a trip to Italy to find long lost relatives.... against her better judgement she takes along Gill and Maggie who bring amongst other things their beehive hair do’s, suitcases of make up, and proceeds of a bank robbery!!!!.....and off they go on an adventure of a lifetime
I already loved Connie from her previous books and very soon loved Gill and Maggie, in fact I grew very fond of all 3 of the 70 year olds with their quirks, sense of mischief, glad eyes for the men and their general fun attitude and the many situations, both LOL and poignant and moving they found themselves in
Over the weeks they travel to Italy via Paris, Cannes,, The Vatican, Naples etc and I loved the beautiful ( yet not lengthy) descriptions of these places, this coupled with the tantalising food and drink descriptions and general feeling of life travelling in a motor home that the book cosily gave had me googling last night and showing Matt various motor homes, towns and food as my long lost Wanderlust returned!!!
The various adventures ( and there are many!!) all lead to a decision to be made on each of their futures and where, as the journey concludes in Italy, they will spend it!
A great relaxing Summer read that will make you laugh, have a few sniffles but more than anything make you ‘feel good’
I loved it and hope there will be a book 3
10/10 5 stars

I first met Connie in The Runaway Wife and absolutely loved her character so was so excited when I realised there was another book featuring her. You don't have to have read The Runaway Wife to enjoy this one as it works perfectly well as a stand alone but as it's a fabulous book I would urge you to read it also.

Through Connie and her friends we realise that life doesn't end when you reach a certain age. If anything, for some, it's just beginning. Connie, Gill and Maggie are three quite different women all wanting to make changes in their lives. I thought they were incredibly brave to drive off on an adventure together and was so glad I got taken on their journey with them.

You can't help but fall in love with the idea of setting off for pastures new and getting to see the world whilst your at it. I've only ever spent a very brief time in France and never been to Italy and after reading this book I will certainly be rectifying that. I felt so chilled out and relaxed reading of the women's travels and fell in love with the places as much as they did.

As with everything there are some ups and downs on their travels but what the author delivers is a fabulous and entertaining read that I didn't want to end. If anything, I am hoping there is going to be more as by the end I felt like firm friends with the three women and I really hope to be able to catch up with them in the future.

The Getaway Girls is a heart warming and fun filled story that every woman should read. It's an uplifting story that makes you realise that you are never too old to go after what you want in life. Loved it.

First let me start off by saying kudos to the author for writing a follow up book that can easily be read by anyone. I had no idea going into The Getaway Girls by Dee MacDonald that Connie is the lead character from the authors first book, The Runaway Wife, and this is a continuation of her story. I actually didn’t find this out until I was finished reading and hit the about section when the story was done but I loved every minute of this one and never felt as if I missed something somewhere.

The story starts off as Connie is finishing up a class she had been taken with Maggie and Gill. The ladies are somewhat friends but not really that close so when Connie starts getting the idea of buying a motor home and traveling from England to Italy she wonders what the heck is she really thinking when she considers inviting them along.

As different as these three ladies are though for one reason or another they are all nearing seventy and ready for an adventure of a lifetime. So Connie’s desire of tracking down her family roots across a couple of countries suddenly becomes on giant adventure after another as the trio travel and strengthen their friendship into a life long bond.

This story was a wonderful little read holding so many fun things within the pages. First, we don’t have your average young characters but three elderly ladies that will show up a few youngsters. There’s also action and suspense when one character brings a bit of trouble into the trip, there’s a bit of romance with one looking for love and a whole lot of female bonding and friendship. And as an added bonus for someone like me that loves the idea of virtually traveling along with my characters these ladies do it in the most fun way taking their time and seeing the sites on their road trip of my dreams. Definitely recommend checking out this little gem!

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

What a fun summer read! I really enjoyed The Gataway Girls and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't only fluff, but about real problems in relationships and trials of life. Yes, it was predictable, but overall, i thought it was a lovely read!
