I have not always been a fan of time travel books as sometimes the characters sometimes act as if it was current time. This story definitely addresses this as each of the two main characters have to deal with their travel back in time very differently. Rachel and her best friend Camisha are in Colonial Williamsburg for a business trip and they end up traveling back in time. Characters from the present and the past have issues to resolve. This was a very interesting story and I plan to read the next one in the series. Has history and suspense so a great read.

I am a historical fiction buff and also a Regency Romance enthusiast. I have this thing about integrity and texture. I am big on word pictures. Tender had all this and more. I had not thought a whole lot about the "down and dirty" of slavery. This book does that, maybe it was a responsive chord in me? The heroine accidental time travels back to pre-Revolutionary Williamsburg, Virginia. The trip back in time enables her to remember her childhood abuse and the death of her parents. It also has an HEA!

Tender by Anne Meredith is book that defies being pegged into one genre. It combines history, time travel, mystery and romance. Tender is the story of Rachel Sheppard and her best friend Camisha Carlyle. Orphaned at a young age Rachel can't remember anything of her life before she was adopted by Max Sheppard. Sheppard is a cruel, distant and controlling man who never showed any love to Rachel. Virtually raised by his housekeeper, Camisha's mother, Rachel has done everything she can to break away from her adoptive father. Rachel knows that something horrible happened to her before being adopted and believes Sheppard had something tl do with it but no one will tell her anything.

While on a business trip to Colonial Williamsburg Rachel and Camisha are catapulted back in time to 1746. They both adapt as best they can and Rachel begins to remember her past when she meets Grey Trelawney.

I absolutely loved this book. The overlapping storylines are well developed and intertwine in a clear concise manner. The book pulls the reader into a world of the past and paints both a lovely and horrible picture of it in a truthful manner.

Character development is excellent. The reader gets to know and care for the main characters. Also, the author made history and Williamsburg both living breathing characters. Although there are pieces of that history which are shameful the reader is guided to also see the positive and how much of American history is something to take pride in. It's a refreshing message in the midst of today's overabundance of political correctness.

The book is an easy read and the storyline is so interesting I found myself losing track of time. I know it's cliche but I couldn't put it down.

I highly recommend this book to lovers of history, mystery and romance. I loved it and have every intention of reading the rest of the series.

I received an ARC copy of this book and reviewed it of my own free will.

A fab story. If you like time travel stories but find they are all alike, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that this is a bit different. The story is full of twists and turns, surprises, love, hate, crime and finally justice. A great read.

I cannot BELIEVE how much I loved this book! I requested this book on a whim, more or less just in the mood to read something new. What I didn't expect was to completely fall head-over-heels for the characters and the talents of the author! Dear Anne Meredith...I must have everything you have ever written or ever will write. Thank you for such a wonderful book!

This had an interesting concept, but it felt as if there too many ideas being crammed into one book so none of them were explored fully. And the deviant practices of some of the characters...why? Just why? I felt it detracted from the story.

Overall I'm a little disappointed. What could have been a wonderful story of colonial America was sullied by things that were unnecessary to the story.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley.

I was intrigued by the description of the 3rd book- getting ready to be released and decided to go back and start at the beginning. Given that all three stories seem to be intertwined, I definitely suggest reading them in order

I liked this book in that it had an Outlander-esque vibe. Time travel back and finding love in turbulent times. However, there are a lot of differences as well. Rachel seems to take pretty easily to being transported back and doesn't seem to have trouble adjusting other than on the issue of slavery. So we didn't really see her adjusting the new surroundings or bringing up things from the future.

The romance that develops between Rachel and Grey is very sweet. Though there was a little cheese thrown in there as well. Really a 28 year old virgin? The ending also wrapped up a little too neatly for me. But we will see what the next book is like.

I wish we had seen more of the Camisha and Ashanti relationship. It kind of came out of nowhere for me. In reading the descriptions for the next two, it would seem Camisha's family plays a role so I just wish we had more from her. Maybe a 4th book?

Read a Time travel book after a long time... i love to read Timetravel novels & if the settings are in the historical era's nothing like it... I liked Tender by Anne... It is set in 1746...This story has a lot ofsurprises, twists, turns, mystery , suspense , Romance , sizzling chemistry , slavery issues ...u name it & all the elements to make a book successful...This is book one in " Trelawneysof Williamsburg " series ... it can be read as a standalone ...

This series is a story of three sisters seperated in childhood due to dire happenings ... " Tender "is the story of the eldest sister Rachel who was adopted... rachel has forgotten the 1st 6 years of her life....while on a visit to Colonial Williamsburg ,Rachel is transported back in time to 1746. She wakes in the arms of Grey Trelawney wealthy owner of the plantation Rosalie ...also unknown to her, Camisha her best friend has also been brought back in time ....

How Rachel & Grey deal with there relationship, thinking , circumstances as they both come from different time periods is beautifully portrayed by Anne ... the revelations, struggles , injustice faced by people of that time brliiantly compared by the author Anne in this time travel book showing both sides ... only drawback was the book was too lengthy , descriptive so sometimes the link was being broken with the actual story ...

overall a delightful read ...the adventure of time travel is wonderful in itself... The characters very interesting ...well written ,presented story...the plot is well developed & so captivating that now i am reading the 2nd book in this series which presents Rachel's middle sister Merrilea 's story ... i highly Recommend this book if want to enjoy ,know the thrill of timetravel ...also Anne has done a marvellous job of research on American history ...its quite intereseting

Just as a preface, this is not my usual genre. I’m not really a Colonial girl more Georgian England for my historical romance. If you like Colonial ...and you like Highlander....you’ll probably love this. I’m not a big fan of either but I’m glad I gave this try. It has a lot of merit and I can see the appeal even though it’s not for me.
