Natalie Wilson has been released from prison after spending 3 years behind bars. She is intent on seeing her son, Harry who is now 4-years-old. He lives on the Isle of Man with his father. She has 3 days to institute her plan to get Harry and take him away. But, her ex-husband, Tom, has found out that she has been released and needs to keep tabs on her.

When Harry was born, it was a difficult birth followed by a lingering illness for both Harry and Natalie. She is stressed and run down and has trouble remembering things. She has returned to work after her maternity leave. She works at her husband’s wealth management company.

One day, the police come and arrest her saying she stole money from a client’s account. She knows she is innocent and soon realizes that her husband, Tom, has set her up. Now, she must go to prison.

The story follows her incarceration, the people she met there, and her struggle to cope. After her release, we find her in the Isle of Man wondering if she can trust anyone and fearing that someone she met in prison is after her. She hears from her old friend, Sasha, who wants to help her find Harry. So, she begins looking for Tom and Harry.

This is an intense book with lots of explicit violence which turned me off. I wasn’t expecting that and cringed at it. While it is a good story, I think the violence could have been curtailed somewhat.

Rona Halsall style of writing is good and very readable but unfortunately I felt that whilst the plot of Keep Me Safe sounded very good it was actually very predictable and disappointing.
It was, for me, a rather cliched and tired formulaic drama and it did not do anything for me. It was sadly, instantly forgettable.

One of the best books I have ever read! Suspenseful and absolutely thrilling, with a cracking pace. I lived this amazing book! Hard to believe this is the author's debut! Very highly recommended to everyone.

'Keep You Safe', previously entitled 'Guilty Little Secrets', is crime writer Rona Halsall's debut psychological thriller, and unfortunately it didn't quite work for me. Despite this, I will try her second book that is expected in November 2018. I do hope it lives up to my expectations a little more than this one did.

Our main protagonist, Natalie Wilson, has been imprisoned for the last three years for a crime she didn't commit. She stands accused of embezzling 1,2 million pounds from one of her clients accounts whilst working at her husbands wealth management business, but she doesn't remember doing it. After giving birth to son Harry, Natalie started having lapses in memory and spent lots of money on expensive impulse purchases. Naturally, she is desperate to reunite with her son after so many years away from him, but someone really wants to stop that from happening. Natalie resolves to find the truth about who is behind this attempt to keep her from her family.

You can tell that the author is a great storyteller but for regular thriller readers I would imagine they would find this too predictable, as I did. Quite a substantial part of the plot is rather far-fetched and unrealistic, so if you like your crime writing to be as believable as possible this is probably a novel to skip. Otherwise, the pace is sound, and the chapters are short leading you to read on and on. The chapters alternate between Natalie's past and her present, so we get plenty of background information on her. Due to this, I feel she is a well developed protagonist and the author adeptly cultivates empathy for her and her situation. This is a multi-layered mystery which has many positive elements, and if you can suspend your disbelief you will have a great time reading it. Unfortunately, it just didn't work for me.

Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Keep You Safe is a plot twisting psychological thriller.

The story of Natalie, a new mom, struggling through the changes becoming a mom brings. As her life begins to fall apart she is not sure what is real and what is not.
This book is set in the Now and Then going back and forth which at first is a bit confusing but as the story takes hold the background sets you up for a highly suspenseful end!

I thought this was going to be a book that I could really get into, but unfortunately, it just didn't happen. I really struggled reading this one at times and it was very predictable.

Natalie spent three very long years in prison for a crime she says she didn't commit. They say she embezzled over 1 million pounds from a clients account, but the only problem is she just doesn't remember doing it. Now she's been released and is on the hunt to find Harry, her little boy, who she has missed so much. One problem, while in prison her husband took off with Harry and she doesn't know where he is. Will Natalie ever see Harry again? What secrets are those close to her hiding?

I really loved where the author was going with this novel, and it is definitely well-written. I guess if I hadn't predicted everything right away it would have been a 5-star read. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

*Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book.

I did not find this to be a “traditional” psychological thriller, in which there are several twists and turns that keep a person guessing. It was more of a very taut “cat and mouse” thriller, with the protagonist (Natalie) as the mouse. The story is fairly straightforward, told from the Natalie’s point of view both in the present and the past, with present events and thoughts from a third party interspersed. Natalie’s past (told as “then”) is the backstory for the present (told as “now), and the story switches seamlessly between the two throughout the book. The third party comments keep the suspense high as the reader tries to figure out who has taken the role of the cat. All three perspectives weave together to create super tension, as Natalie’s past experiences are as tense as her present situation. The book started a little slowly as the author laid the groundwork, but picked up pace as it progressed. It wasn’t one of those “0-60” type of stories; rather, it built suspense and kept the reader in the same state of uncertainty as Natalie. The climax was extremely well-written, incredibly descriptive, and brought to mind a fight scene in a movie…I could picture it that well. All-in-all, a very good thriller with a unique plot line that I would recommend to anyone who likes the genre. (As an aside, the title of this book changed from Guilty Little Secrets to Keep You Safe from the time that I first received it to now). Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book and was desparate for things to work out for Natalie.
The book begins with Natalie getting out of prison and we join her on a ferry, planning to get her son back.
She’s lost three years of her life in prison for something she knows she wasn’t guilty of, but it was taken out of her control.
This is a gripping story which leads you down one path, only for it to twist and it will leave you gobsmacked.
Natalie faces all sorts of obstacles whilst trying to find her son and at times this is a real nail biter.
We also learn what happened whilst Natalie was in prison and this really made me like this character, as she’s been through so much.
I can’t wait to read more books by this author.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Keep You Safe appeared to be a book that I could really get into. Unfortunately it fell a bit flat for me. It was enjoyable but predictable and felt like I had read it all before. I struggled to stay interested

Natalie is sent to prison for a crime that she didn't commit. Whist locked up her husband takes her sons away. The first things she wants once released is to find her son and find out who was responsible for sending her to jail.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for letting me read Keep You Safe (previously Guilty Little Secrets) by Rona Halsall for an honest review. All opinions are my own!

My first time reading that author.

This is the story of a woman out of prison, looking for her son... Told as before and now to get to know how she got sent to prison and what happened there and what happens when she's out looking for her son.
Well written, interesting, but a bit predictable at times.
One thing really annoyed me : "Lisa had mentioned the Wing. Isn't that were all the nutters are held? Self-harmers, people with mental health issues."
"nutters" and "self-harmers" kind of in a same sentence! That upset me! I couldn't forget that the rest of the book so didn't really enjoy the story as much as I hoped. I'm sorry I'm one of "those people" who suffer in secret and was upset to be considered that way. I'm ashamed enough as it is! You wouldn't call alcoholics or drug addicts "nutters" so...
I think as an author you should think carefully of your words and the people who might be reading your book.
Just my opinion.
3.5 stars.

My review is written with thanks to Noelle at Bookouture for inviting me to take part and providing my copy of the book through Netgalley.
Natalie has just been released from prison after serving time for a crime she says she knows she didn't commit. She is desperate to see her son, Harry, whom she hasn't seen since the day she was arrested three years ago. She is determined to find Harry and make up for the lost years, but someone is trying to stop her. Can Natalie discover the truth and be reunited with her son?
From the outset of Keep You Safe, I found Natalie an intriguing character. Throughout the novel, she is convinced that she is innocent of the crimes for which she was convicted. I wanted to believe her, but there were always questions at the back of my mind, questions I needed to find the answers to, and this made me keep reading. Natalie's time in prison has hardened her, and it is not clear who she is able to trust. I also wanted to know more about this, and what had led her to the place where she finds herself in the present day.
There are several scenes set in the prison in Keep You Safe, and I feel that these scenes were very thoroughly researched. Although I have never been in the main part of a prison building, Halsall's descriptions allowed me to picture both the physical building and the claustrophobic and oppressive prison environment, so that I could understand Natalie's predicament and sympathise with it.
Keep You Safe is written in two different time frames, then and now, which are usually alternated in short, sharp chapters. As the two time frames come closer together, the tension is palpable and there is danger bubbling under the surface. There are also a few chapters narrated by an unknown person, and the threat this person poses to Natalie adds to this effect, as not knowing their identity makes it difficult to know what they are capable of. By the end, which is full of twists and turns, I was holding my breath as I crossed my fingers that Natalie would be safe.

Thank you to Bookouture and Net Galley for the early release of Keep You Safe formerly called Guilty Little Secrets. This book kept me interested from the beginning, I just needed to figure it out. It was a bit far fetched towards the end but worth the reading to find out exactly what was happening. A great read!!!!

A good thriller that moves at a quick pace through its short chapters which alternate between Natalie's past and the present and a threatening voice who seems to be following her.. Natalie is recently released from prison and is trying to find her young son, Harry, who has been taken to the Isle of Man by her husband after their divorce. She makes her way to the island, determined to take Harry away and ensure she and her son can never be found.

The story unfolds as we follow Natalie in her task to find Harry and we gradually discover the truth about how she ended up in prison and the trauma that she experienced there. She pieces together what happened to her and realises that the threat is much closer to her than she originally and the story picks up pace as we will her to succeed.

Whoa! This is an intense tale of a woman who was seriously wronged in the worst way! That becomes obvious straight away. But what remains a mystery until the end is who is behind her misfortune. Rona Halsall does a great job building the suspense and making everyone in Natalie's life seem guilty!
A twisted cast of characters, a thickening plot, a multilayer mystery and a little boys life hanging in the balance of it all will have you at the edge of your seat! I loved this story! I found myself cringing at the detailed description of some gruesome scenes and. Y heart pounding when Natalie spoke of how she was ripped away from her little boy.
Fans of psychological thrillers will love this book! Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and Rona Halsall for giving us this ARC in exchange for an honest review. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very nice debut thriller! Told in a dual time line, dual voice manner, this is the story of Natalie, who finds herself arrested and jailed for embezzlement- and then her son is missing. She eventually discovers that her husband Tom has taken young Harry to the Isle of Man, where the laws are different. She discovers other things as well and the reasons behind the awful things that happen in her life- well, no spoilers. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This one is a page turner.

I enjoyed this book the detail of the “crime” were plausible and the search to be reunited certainly understandable. Quite a easy read perhaps did not fulfill its early promise
