I have to say at first I was so confused as to where this book was going to take me. I was thinking it was going to more of a spiritual, self-help type of book. I was surprised to see it was told as an actual story of self discovery. I found the 9 insights extremely profound yet simple.

I’m not gonna say I had a huge epiphany while reading this one, but I definitely found it insightful. I loved the way it made me think about how I could incorporate these insights into my daily life. I also need to say the writing isn’t the best, but it really spoke to me and I loved being on this “journey”.

Overall I would recommend this one to people who enjoy reading about others’ spiritual journeys. If you aren’t into spiritual reading this is probably one I would skip. If you can take it for what it’s worth, just enjoy the story.

I have read this book at least two or three times, not because I particularly like it but because I come very close to liking it. Spiritual fiction at one point was my favorite genre and this book firmly falls into it. Therefore, I was expecting to love this book. I read this book in the height of my love for spiritual fiction and got a few things out of it but didn't like it enough to keep it.

I'd been somewhat regretting the decision to trade this book as I felt I didn't give it enough of a chance. I was recently offered a free copy in exchange for a review and took the opportunity to do so.

On this read through I got less insight out of it. In fact, some of the optimism/inevitability of progress that pervades the book seems rather naive based on the devolution that has occurred since it was written. On the other hand, I was able to able to enjoy the story line a good deal more than I remember.

I recommend this book for those looking for a riveting read. For those looking for insight there definitely is some but I personally don't find much wisdom in most spiritual fiction these days. I feel that there is some wisdom in this book, but the more similar books you've read the less insight you'll be likely to find here.

Given all of the changes in the 25 years since of the publication of THE CELESTINE PROPHECY by James Redfield, I am curious to reread this novel and see if it still has the appeal that made it a New York Times bestseller for over three years during the early 1990s. In the latest edition, Redfield writes about "this more awakened state that fuels the current exploration of spiritual consciousness. ... Why are we here? Where are we going?"

For those unfamiliar with THE CELESTINE PROPHECY, a male narrator learns about a Manuscript filled with Insights that are meant to contribute to a transformation for the world (not unlike much earlier shifts from total belief in God or gods to more reliance on Science and then to pursuit of economic goals). The search for the Manuscript takes this character through an adventure in Peru where he gradually learns the Insights despite opposition from the church and government. Redfield has encouraged readers to "pursue this journey with heart . ... read and interpret the little hunches and intuitions that put us in just the right position to experience synchronicity" or coincidences that have personal meaning. I wonder if the pervasiveness of technology (with our often disconnectedness and less opportunity for reflection) and/or the changing demographics (like an aging population with more life experience) will lead to a different reaction to this story. What do you think?

I love the Celestine prophecy. This is a new edition of a Classic spiritual work. It has a new preface from tbe author. If you haven't read this book before now, you should. It is written as an adventure story but teaches you spiritual insights along the way. Absolutely wonderful, I hope they republish the rest of the series as well. This is one of my favorite books ever. I highly recommend it.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
