A real insight into the mind of a military chaplain. The struggles they must face are brilliantly shown in this book. I highly recommend.

The Christian walk is a battle, but Darren and Heather's battle become even more of a reality when Darren is sent to Iraq as a chaplain.

I loved the progress of this story and the deep feelings put into all the characters. Those who serve in the military are special people! The emotions were high as I read, and I could understand some of how Darren and Heather felt as they served those around them. Serving others is draining, but oh so fulfilling.

I enjoyed the short chapters, and how easy this was to pick up. I can't wait to see the movie! I did find it strange that a couple chapters switched to present instead of past, but I think it was more for effect on the emotions of certain scenes. Also, there are a couple euphemisms used throughout, but not overused.

I definitely recommend this to mid teens and up. There is some war scenes shown, but written carefully and not gruesomely. I loved the depiction of the armour of God being Darren's guide as a soldier. A powerful comparison!

I loved this book and am looking forward to seeing the movie when it comes out this fall. Darren Turner is deployed as a chaplain, while leaving his wife, Heather, and their 3 children behind. The distance between them puts their love to the test. Will they be able to survive?

INDIVISIBLE by TRAVIS THRASHER is the story of Darren and Heather Turner and their three children, whose originally happy family is not at all the same when Darren comes home from deployment as an army chaplain in Iraq. It is a novelization of Indivisible, The Movie, and it is based on the Turners' true story.
This book really opens our eyes to the reality of war and the tremendous courage that both those in the armed forces and those who are left at home to hold the fort, need in order to cope. The raw emotions shown and the desperation of those who are trying to trust the Lord in horrific situations is shown throughout. So much can be learned from this story and the sacrificial lives of the men and women who are trying to make the world safer for everyone.
Darren and Heather start out knowing that the Lord has called them to this service, him to the soldiers who are going through hell on earth and her to the wives who are struggling at home, especially those who have lost their husbands. Their faith is important to them, and they minister the truth of the Gospel in their various roles, but there comes a time of burnout when Darren comes home and is still ministering to those with needs. It seems as though their marriage and family life is over. His home coming is not the wonderful occasion to which they have been looking forward. He cannot let go of the horrors of war until eventually, he is forced seek help for himself, if he is to save his family.
As in all of life's experiences, it is only when we stop relying on our own strength, put on the full armour of God, and trust Him to see us through, that we are victorious over the attacks of the enemy.
The book is full of Scripture references and real life instruction in a story that really is a classic. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Darren is trained as a chaplain, but he has no idea what he is in for as he is deployed to Iraq! He, his wife Heather, his oldest daughter, Elie, his son, Sam, and baby Meribeth, are a happy family that enjoy building and playing in a fort in the living room and they love each other and God.
Heather plans on working with a military support group that helps military families comfort and support each other while their spouses serve or are there for each other when a loved one dies while serving.
Darren arrives in Iraq and he makes contact with the men and women, he goes out with them through villages and places where his group is shot at and put in danger and he learns how to react as a soldier and bond with the men in his unit.
In the meantime, Heather is holding the fort at home, trying to take care of the kids, the house and help other lonely women who are as lonely and busy as she is. She and Darren communicate through phone, email and letters, but as time goes by, Darren is overcome by all the horror, death and sadness he has to deal with everyday.
You will feel as if you are there with this couple and their family, you will appreciate the sacrifices our servicemen, women and families make, so read this book and you will gain an understanding of military life and service like you never had before!
