After reading The Tea Dragon Society, which I absolutely loved to bits I knew I had to read more of O'Neills graphic novels and when I saw this one on NetGalley I got extremely excited.

The art style is just as beautiful and adorable and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. While I did enjoy Tea Dragon Society more, probably cause I love dragons and tea and it was perfect for me, this one was so amazing and featured such important lessons about our environment and how to treat it.
I think this is an amazing graphic novel for kids to explain to them, how climate change and the fishing industry influence the oceans and what that means for us.

It's just an overall feel good story with quite some deep themes, but it never gets dark. It deal with the loss of a parent as well and I think it does that very well.

Really enjoyable, I would recommend this to anyone who likes a cute art style and a little bit of magic in their stories. I also think you can enjoy this story no matter how old you are. There is something for everybody in there.

Katie O'Neill is an amazing storyteller. Not only is her art adorable, but her characters and story are beautifully woven. This story has grief at the heart of it, but there are also adorable mythical animals and a connection to the sea. A sibling relationship is shown between sisters. A grieving father and his young daughter help an island recover. There are big world issues involved such as over-fishing and global climate change, but the story itself is very personal.

I give this comic a 5/5. It's a beautifully adorable story about modern environmental issues and grieving. This is another wonderful work of art from Katie O'Neill.

I have no words to express what I felt when I read Aquicorn Cove!

I knew about the book and the illustrator from a friend’s review on Goodreads. Because of that, I looked for a way to be able to read the graphic novel. So I discovered NetGalley and an opportunity to meet authors and stories before they are published.

Let's talk about Aquicorn Cove! It's just fantastic!
I really liked the story, the illustrations and sensitive Katie O'Neill’s work.

It’s a book for children and young readers, but I think it will catch readers of all ages. The story is delicate and full of meanings. To live in harmony with the environment is the key point of the story. We can notice the author’s concerning about sea life and the damages that humans can cause through the reading and the illustrations.

I love the graphic novel. The illustrations are cute and the artist’s lines are so delicated and original. The story is so good that can have a sequence (more books with Lana an Aunt Mae) because of the adorable characters. The details of the illustrations are so rich and we can notice O’Neill’s hand in every page.

After I read Aquicorn Cove, I’m very curious to know more about the others author's books and look forward to some publishers can publish Katie O'Neill's books here in Brazil.

Seriously, you will love it!!!

Now I want an Aquicorn for me.

This is a very gentle graphic novel aimed (I think) at the lower end of the middle-grade range that includes some fantasy elements but mainly deals with contemporary themes. It has a strong environmental message and a solid core narrative about a young girl learning to cope with the grief of losing her mother. As always, Katie O'Neill's art is charmingly stylized, with a pleasing pastel palette. Much like her previous Tea Dragon Society, Aquicorn Cove features a background LGBTQ+ romance between adults (in this case, the protagonist's aunt and her mysterious green sea-witch girlfriend) while the protagonist, as appropriate for their age, has no romantic arc. A wide range of skin color is featured; the protagonist appears to be biracial but race is not commented on. Strongly recommend to fans of Tea Dragon Society, Steven Universe, and anyone looking for a G-rated book with LGBTQ+ elements; if you are coming straight from Princess Princess Ever After, keep in mind that the romance is not foregrounded in this book the way it is in O'Neill's debut.

The artwork is gorgeous! It really is the best thing about this book.

I liked the story but struggled with how heavy-handed and obvious the environmental message was. It felt predictable.

This book was not what i was expecting based on title and cover. It is a lovely graphic story about why you need to be kind to the ocean and any creature that might live there. The story is simple, but has meaning. The illustration spot on, and reminds me of a soft Studio Ghibli piece. The only thing I didn’t like was that Aunt was a smoker, and it seemed to be constant. It’s a small thing, but it irks me, which makes that book not as good.

Lana and her father go to their hometown to help Aunt Mae rebuilding her house near the coast, which is badly damaged after a storm, the hometown brings nice and bad memories to Lana's family,. Her trip becomes more fantastic when she remembers her love for the sea and the beach, and discovers the existence of the Aquacorns (they are so lovely that I need a Aquacorn push).

The colors are fantastic, I was already falling in love with the sceneries of Aquicorn Cove and they show me the under the sea's sight all fancy. As a person accompanying the illustration market from the window, there are many frames in this graphic novel that would be fantastic prints to have on my wall.

Stories for the little ones always have a fantastic message, right? Here is the care with marine life and also that each one must do their part to preserve nature, even if they feel a needle in the haystack, that is our world.

Aquicorn Cove is a beautifully illustrated and poignant book - perfect for addressing or introducing sensitive and timely subjects with young ones. It elegantly and simply tells a story of grief and renewal, depression and triumph, denial and acceptance, as well as a few pertinent social issues. It gently encourages personal accountability and responsibility for the world around us. I will definitely be getting a hard copy of this beautiful book and will share it with my children. 4 out 5 wine glasses.

Aquicorn Cove is such a CUTE and heart-warming story! The artwork is delicate and it's just the art style I love. Lana is a sweetheart and I could relate to her love for the ocean and its creatures. Her aunt Mae is probably the COOLEST character I've seen in a long time - and I kind of freaked out when I realized how little we see big and (literally) strong women in comics! She's so beautiful and I'd love to read a short story focused on her growing up and learning how to fish and carry on the family's business.

The environmental issues discussed here are great and I'd love to see more comics and novels about that. Also, I AM HERE for the LGBTQ+ vibes in this story! After reading this I immediately looked for Katie O'Neil's other works - so far, loving them all :)

Katie O'Neill has quickly become one of my favourite artists. Her panels are gorgeous and Aquicorn Cove does not disappoint. It has so many things to love: mythical creatures, love, family and environmentalism. What I loved most was getting to know Lana and how O'Neill dealt with her grief and loss.

Overall, it's a fun yet thought provoking book that kids will enjoy. Along with Tea Dragon Society, this is another book of O'Neill's that I will recommend to my little cousins.

This story is so beautiful and full of love and emotion.
Lana returns to her old home and aunt following a storm to help with clean up. While she’s there we learn she lived here until she lost her mom to a storm and this is obviously a rough visit for her, a home she loved but something she loved lost to it. As she helps with clean up she finds a seahorse looking creature and then we dig deeper into the story. Of a small villages and the effect they have on the ocean, changes to the environment and how little things aren’t really little.
Katie O’Neill brings heart and strong women and beautiful lgbt+ representation to a beautiful comic that can be read by middle graders but enjoyed by anyone and everyone. I can’t wait to thrust this book at everyone I meet.

An adorable short comic! I loved Katie O'Neill's The tea dragon society and the style and themes are very similar. A perfect mix of fantasy, cuteness, family and romance, and a nice touch of protecting nature and traditions.

I've been in love with O'Neill's artwork since I first stumbled upon Princess Princess Ever After and Aquicorn Cove is just as gorgeous as that and The Tea Dragon Society. Aquicorn Cove is also full of the heart and fantasy that O'Neill's first two works are. I love how accessible Aquicorn Cove will be to younger children, while still being just as delightful to adults. I truly can't sing O'Neill's praises enough and will be pre-ordering Aquicorn Cove for my library's collection!

Pastel cartoons show a little girl and her dad visiting her aunt, in a place by the shore after a big storm. In between helping the community rebuild, she finds a kinda seahorse/kinda not in the ocean and brings it home in a jar.
There’s an interlude that shows her mom died and Dad moved them to the city, where in almost anime-type illustrations she’s not happy having to dress up for school and doing a lot of things adults should be doing.
A flashback shows where the little creature comes from, and a lot more. At that point the story shows it’s an environmental fable, which is nice, but most people will enjoy the art most of all. Bright colors fill every page, even more so in the underwater scenes.
Kids will think it’s cute, but it’s more than that. Whether it’s taking care of a wounded animal, healing a coral reef, or helping people pick up the pieces of a storm-ravaged village, there’s inspiration for everyone.

This was such a beautiful story. I almost want to cry with how sweet it was and the import message it delivered about looking after our ecosystems, which is something I can be passionate about.
I was so excited to be back in another Katie O'Neill's world after reading and loving The Tea Dragon Society.
This story was just as captivating. I think O'Neill could make her stories into such lovely cartoon shows, with their piteresque, unique art style and moving stories. They'd reach an audience of any age and make them fall in love.
Again, diversity was amazing, with ethnicities and sexualities, and even in such a small book, its still displayed perfectly.

I'll start out by saying that I'm already a huge fan of Katie O'Neill and was so excited to have the opportunity to read her upcoming book. Aquicorn Cove is the story of a small fishing village and the people who live there, who love their way of life. A young girl, Lana, comes back to visit with her Auntie Mae after a terrible storm does a lot of damage in the village. While helping her family and friends clean up, she finds a seahorse looking animal that needs help and rescues it. We learn that Lana's mother died and that her father moved them to the city. Lana misses her mother and the village she grew up in. Mae tells her the story of meeting a beautiful Aquicorn queen, how she helped their family and the message she gave her about the destruction of the ocean and coral reefs. When another big storm threatens the island and Auntie Mae, Lana seeks help from the Aquicorns to keep both the village and her Aunt safe.

A heart-warming and thoughtful story about the power of family and how, if we all care just a little bit, we can each make a big difference in the world. I couldn't imagine a better follow up to The Tea Dragon Society and Princess Princess Ever After. A beautiful book with a great message.

Beautiful book, mixing gentle, lovely fantasy with modern environmental concerns. It did feel a little overly didactic and I didn't fall quite as in love with it as I did with Tea Dragons, but still a great book and the importance of dealing with plastic in the oceans makes me forgive the teaching moment element. It is fascinating to see how changes in technology and economy have larger ripples in the world and I think that focus makes this a very unique environmental story.

*Thank you to NetGalley for early access to this title*
Aquicorn Cove is a colorful, charming story that tackles the issue of overfishing in a semi-fantastical setting. Lana, a young girl still grieving her mother's death, returns to her seaside hometown to clean up after a storm and discovers an injured seahorse-like creature called an aquicorn. One would expect the story to focus on them, but a good chunk of the story is devoted to Lana's aunt and her relationship with a sea-dwelling woman from her past, which I enjoyed a lot. The stories weave together in a mostly cohesive way, but I did wish it was a bit longer to include more about Lana and her relationship with the aquicorns. Overall, though, a beautiful and sweet story with an environmentalist message.
