It's another nightmare for Shona, A woman holding hands with a young child is screaming at Shona's father. She doesn't understand the words, but she wakes up terrified. Her father had died when she was five and all she knows is that her father had a heart attack. Her mother has always refuse to talk about him.

Shona is a good nurse, compassionate, gentle, and when faced with a new client with terminal cancer, she does what she does best .. remain neutral, calm whatever fears there are, positive thinking. But Carmen is not a normal patient.

Carmen manages to weave Shona into her life. She wants Shona to find her missing son. She says that when she gave birth, she was told the baby had died. But then she overheard a conversation that led her to believe she child had been taken ... had not died.

She also informs Shona that her father had not died of a heart attack .. he had committed suicide. How does Carmen know that? Why would her mother never tell her? Why would her father commit suicide?

Suspense, mystery, revenge, and malevolence are wrapped around family secrets and lies. The characters are finely drawn and lend credibility to this novel. This is not a fast moving action filled drama. It's more like sipping a wine and feeling the warmth a bit at a time.

Many thanks to the author / TBC Reviewer Request Group (FB) / Victory Editing / Netgalley for this psychological drama. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

First book of H A Dawson's that I've read and she didn't disappoint. The storyline was intriguing and made you want to keep reading. Although I have to say that the grammar was a bit frustrating especially the mixed up pronouns.
Shona is a district nurse who specialises in palliative care. Carmen is currently being treated for stage three cancer and specifically requests Shona to be her nurse. Their relationship is rocky to say the least with Carmen being a difficult patient. One day she enlists Shona to help her track down her son who she hasn't ever seen
Reluctantly Shona agreed to help her and tells Carmen that she will also ask her boyfriend, Justin, to help with his computer skills.
Shona has her own demons to uncover with her mother and her grandmother doing all they can to dissuade her from digging up the past.
A lot of twists and turns, highly emotional, worth reading.
