I went back and forth with this book. I went from feeling that this memoir contains content that doesn't contribute to this world to relating closely with Ellie's hangry tendencies to feeling like her thoughts were scattered and random. Overall, this book did not make me laugh out loud but it was a fast-paced and interesting read. I enjoyed hearing her stories from her perspective, but I feel like she might have been able to say more if she waited a few more years to write a book.

I like Ellie Kemper well enough and enjoy her work on The Office and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

I felt like this book was more about her personal journey to working on those shows and not enough about actually being on them.

I've read Amy Poehler's book and Tina Fey's Bossypants and My Squirrel Days can't hold a candle to them.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

First I want to say that I love Ellie Kempers acting skills. Erin was one of my favorite characters on The Office and watching an Ellie interview is never a disappointment. I say all of this because...of course, I loved this book! I thought it was a fun read and I loved getting to know Ellie more!

Once again I am reading a book by a comedian whose work I am not overly familiar with, although I have been told I would like their work. If you already know you don't like the author's comedy, this book is obviously not for you. I liked her work in Bridesmaids, so I gave this a shot.

I thought this was a fairly straightforward stream-of-consciousness (with editing) representation of Kemper's humor and improv skills. Kemper does not shy away from the fact that she comes from a privileged background that let her do things like taking improv classes in Chicago while holding down an unpaid internship and become an improv artist in New York while not having to worry about holding down a day job. That said she also goes into detail about how much work she has put into her craft, from all the classes she has taken, the shows she has written/performed, and auditions from commercials and shows she has done.

I would give the book 3 out of 5 stars.

First off, I have to say I love Ellie Kemper and am a big fan of hers. That being said, I think my expectations for this book were really high.

The writing itself is good. The problem is that it’s just a little dry. The stories weren’t super fun or exciting. I didn’t find myself excited to pick up the book and finish reading it. The footnotes were unbelievably annoying and made me keep flipping back and forth as well.

I usually love memoirs from actors, so I thought this would be right up my alley. I was sad to find out I had overestimated the book. I think the book actually needed more about her time on “The Office” and on “Kimmy Schmidt”. Also, she kind of paints herself to be a jerk, like when she freaks out over lentils and over not having a thong. She also talks about how she would never suggest helping anyone and found that to be truly out of character for herself. I appreciated her honesty, but made her kind of seem like a diva a little bit.

I received an ARC courtesy of NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

Not my favorite book, but I wasn’t disappointed. I like Ellie Kemper and I enjoyed the voice of her book. There were some funny parts. I’m not really sure why actors get asked to write memoirs all the time. And it seems like Kemper wonders the same thing. So I appreciate that.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

I've been a fan of Ellie for a long time, but was slightly worried about this book because I feel like she's so typecast and has such a voice that, while endearing, can also be a tad bit annoying. Her memoir ended up showing me that she basically has all the good parts of her characters in her real personality (sweet, kind, quirky), but is also so much more (smart, down-to-Earth). Her "Kimmy Schmidt voice" (how I refer to it!) definitely comes out at times, but not to the point of ridiculousness.

I enjoyed My Squirrel Days because I learned so much about Ellie that I had no idea about. She had such a seemingly normal childhood and one that I could relate to in many ways. Though she always loved performing with her family, it wasn't until college that she really got into acting and improv. Even then, she interned at an ad agency and though she was a go-getter, didn't seem to be obsessed with making an acting career happen. She's just talented and after performing and auditioning enough, it all paid off.

I didn't love every essay in the collection and I felt like some were lacking a bit... Parts made me laugh out loud, but some chapters felt a bit pointless. I can also think of a million more topics I wish Ellie would have dove into more- I wanted more about Kimmy Schmidt and more about her relationships with some of the awesome people she's worked with. But I feel like she kept some topics off-limits and was probably careful about what she disclosed in the book.

Overall, if you're a fan of Ellie and have followed her acting career, this book is a really great way to get to know another side of her and have a few laughs!

I really wanted to like this book because I like Ellie Kemper so much as an actress. There were good, laugh out loud moments but there were also stories that just felt like filler. It's unfortunate because I really think she could be a good writer. Maybe next time.

My Squirrel Days was a nice collection of essays on life, showbiz, relationships, pink pants, bridesmaids, and much more. The stories about the early days of UCB were nice. I enjoyed Ellie's writing style, although I had difficulty with the footnotes. At one point there is a joke pertaining to The Office, and the punchline is in the footnote at the end of the chapter, making it kind of choppy.

Fun and entertaining read. Had some good laugh out loud moments. Ellie seems like a genuine person and I feel like her stories put that across. Thank you netgalley for an arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was pleasantly surprised by this collection of essays! Kemper has a strong voice and a conversational tone that makes you feel like you've been reading a funny email from a friend. Although the essays sometimes felt disconnected from each other, I still enjoyed reading them and I would recommend this book to a friend,

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was skeptical of this book when I received it - it seems like every quirky, funny actress is writing a book of essays these days, and they start to blend together. But Ellie Kemper proved me wrong - and I'm glad she did! Each story was funny and engaging, and I feel like she did a great job of including stories from both pre- and post-fame. She's a wonderful storyteller and after reading this, I want her to be my new best friend. I would definitely recommend this book!

Thank you NetGalley and Ellie Kemper for an advance copy of this super funny book!

I love Ellie Kemper. From "The Office" to "Bridesmaids" to "Kimmy Schmidt"...she's just so funny. This book didn't disappoint; I loved it. I can't wait to see what she does next.

While I do love a scandalous Hollywood tell-all memoir, I appreciated the wholesome, funny stories in Ellie Kemper's "My Squirrel Days." It also made me wonder if Tina Fey used everything about Ms, Kemper to create Kimmy Schmidt, because her positive outlook on everything seemed too close to Kimmy's to be a coincidence. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it. It felt like reading the stories and musings of a close (and unashamedly nerdy) friend.

This book was funny and easy to read. It wasn't super funny and I never HAHAHAHAHA'd out loud, but I did appreciate her voice and tone. I liked the pictures and I wished there were more.

If you are a fan of Ellie Kemper, you will enjoy this book. It made me want to watch Tooken Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 3.

Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for an advance copy of this book.

I love Ellie Kemper and have enjoyed following her career. Her new book was fun, light read, with plenty of moments that made me laugh.

I found that it felt a bit unfinished, however. I would have liked more behind-the-scenes stories from the sets of her shows, and I was disappointed at the lack of Jon Hamm! (Jon Hamm was Kemper's drama teacher in high school, and they now appear together on Kimmy Schmidt, so I was hoping there'd be some discussion of that.)

I really enjoyed this book of essays from Ellie Kemper. I have loved watching her on The Office, Bridesmaids, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. She is funny and I feel like she is down to earth. Thanks for the ARC and I know people will love it.

Ellie Kemper is bringing her sense of comedy to the written word. She is best known for her work in The Office and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Her typical role is that of a wide-eyed cheerful young woman with extreme innocence. While some of that is true in Ellie Kemper, her new book My Squirrel Days exhibits a more complete picture of the young actress, including the time she threw a fit at brunch when she thought her promised lentils were not in the dish she was about to eat. Sometimes awkward, but always hilarious, Kemper discussed her rejection from SNL, her work with the amazing Tina Fey, and a childhood that involved the squirrel population of her backyard ala Sigourney Weaver in Gorillas in the Mist.

Kemper is occasionally laugh out loud funny when describing her life and acting roles, as well as her marriage and the initial awkward friendship that started their relationship.  She divides the book into sections, each detailing a role she's played in life and acting. The funniest sections discuss her time being a bridesmaid while filming the comedy Bridesmaids, her completely hands off approach to her wedding, and the initial panic state of a first time mom.

My Squirrel Days is highly entertaining, and another great book following in the foots steps of actresses turned authors like Anna Kendrick and Kemper's fellow Office alum Mindy Kaling.

My Squirrel Days is available October 9th.

I like Ellie Kemper. She seems like a nice, fun person. But as far as her storytelling goes, I feel like not enough of the things she's experience in life are all that interesting. That sounds mean, I'm sorry. For me, I don't find improv that interesting, and she did a lot of that before becoming an actress. I didn't know that about her. I also thought her story about the times she's been to Europe & Japan a little dry. There were definitely some funny parts throughout the book and I want to check out Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and even rewatch The Office. I did like that it wasn't full of language and she didn't feel the need to talk about her 'first time'. I liked that there were pictures, but there could've been more. People like pictures. But I hated the footnotes, because I just hate footnotes.
