Ellie Kemper's sweetness & humor shine through in this fun read! She had an interesting upbringing and I'm so glad she's found succes.

Fans of Ellie Kemper will surely love this. As someone that enjoyed her on The Office, but doesn't follow her too closely, I did enjoy it. There are plenty of funny anecdotes, but this is not necessarily a must read.

Ellie is clearly a delightful person but her book was just blah. I hate that. Celebrities you like get book deals to tell their stories but they tend to be a let down. It sucks when someone’s life story is boring no matter how funny that person may be. I don’t think I am a good audience for these kinds of books.

Cute book with stories that get better as the book goes on. Ellie is just the right mix of driven, funny, and a little bit crazy. Especially enjoyed the St. Louis details since I live there. This is a fun, easy read that will make you laugh and keep you interested.

Let me start this by saying that I LOVE Ellie Kemper, I think she is a wonderful actress and a funny person in general. I also am a BIG fan of celebrity memoirs/autobiographies, they are kind of my guilty pleasure. So, I was so excited to see this come up. I tried so many times to read this. I even tried to walk away from it and restart a few times. I couldn't even finish this book. Ellie felt like she was talking in circles and I never knew what was going on. She would start to tell a story, then get side tracked and a few times it felt like she never even made it back to the story. I wanted to love this so much but I didn't. Maybe, this would be better as an audiobook. Thank you to Netgalley and Scribner for allowing me to review this ARC.

I love her as an actress but her personality didn’t translate for me in the written form. Once I started reading as fast as I imagine her voice would be telling the story it translated better. This wasn’t my favorite celebrity memoir.

2.5 rounded up

I really like Ellie Kemper and have so enjoyed all of the roles she has played, and I was excited to read her book because I think she’s an absolute delight, but boy was it hard to get through. I was sent an ARC for review from Netgalley, so I really didn’t want to give up on it, but I struggled through the first 25% of the book enough that I considered putting it down. But then I found the audiobook and the whole book works so, so, so much better that way. It’s far more engaging hearing her read her words with her trademark enthusiasm and self-deprecation that her fans love. Very few of her “essays” were particularly interesting (one chapter is more or less devoted to a time she couldn’t find the lentils in her quinoa and lentil salad at brunch), but I did thoroughly enjoy the chapters about her SNL audition, The Office, Bridesmaids, and Kimmy Schmidt. If you love Ellie Kemper and plan to give this one a read, I strongly suggest listening to it rather than reading it.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Rarely does an author's personality come through via the pages of their memoir, but Ellie Kemper's writing was exactly how she is in interviews. I could picture her telling these stories about her life as I read this. Some of the stories had me laughing and I have recommended it to several people!

I received an ARC from NetGalley.com and the publisher. Thank you to both for the opportunity.

Full disclosure: there comes a time in every sitcom actresses career to write a book. Ms. Kemper should have passed on the opportunity. This book is so full of over the top, "aren't I just so quirky and funny", manic-pixie dream girl next door stories, that I almost didn't finish the book.

Just because you can write a book doesn't mean you should. Wait until this one hits the clearance section.

I could not finish this book. I thought I knew who this was about, turns out I don't. I couldn't keep up with the back and forth.

I'm gonna be honest this wasn't the book for me. I went into it thinking it would be Mindy Kaling or Tina Fey-esque--which it wasn't and a little unfair of me. I'm sure Ellie Kemper is a great person and funny in her own right but I just wasn't feeling this. I started to skim the stories and that's never a good sign. I think I just went in thinking it was going to be really funny and by not being making me laugh the entire time I felt a bit disappointed. Overall, this may be completely entertaining for many, it was just not for me.

I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ellie Kemper is hilarious and silly and self-deprecating and serious all at the same time. This was a great read, both insightful and fun. If you liked her Office character even a little bit, you'll like this book!

Do you love Ellie Kemper? If so, you'll probably enjoy this. I think she's cute, kinda funny, but not incredibly interesting. I found her book to be much of the same. I don't want to knock her, but she's just not "enough" for me to devote hours of my time reading about her life. There were parts that were hilarious, but not enough to make me love this book. She's just not that interesting to me. To you, maybe. But this just didn't knock my socks off. It was fine, but not fantastic.

I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Whether you pick this up because the squirrel caught your eye, or you are already a fan of Ellie Kemper, you are in for a treat. This book of memoir-like humorous essays show that she has both an acute wit and memory. I laughed out loud at a few of the things she detailed and enjoyed reading through them all. Starting in Missouri, I enjoyed the pieces about her childhood and even a few visual aids, no doubt retrieved from her family home. She's pretty honest about some of the ease at which she was able to pursue improv classes after college graduation--but don't worry, some menial labor, albeit delicious sounding, is in there too. Fans of similar type books by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling will probably enjoy this too.

Thanks to @netgalley and @scribnerbooks for the free review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I think Ellie Kemper is adorable (in a totally non-patronizing kind of way). I loved her on The Office and I find Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt delightfully weird. So I was really excited to read her book! It's funny and cute, and while I was hoping for more – for some depth, some insight – I did find it enjoyable. It’s a series of essays about her life, from childhood to present day. I definitely LOL’d a number of times, and I came away from reading it thinking that she’d be a lot of fun to hang out with. She’s funny, snarky, and thoroughly able to laugh at herself, and I like all those things. It’s the kind of book you can pick up, read an essay or two, and put down with ease, satisfied in its entertainment value. My hang up is that I wanted that depth, that insight - but it really isn’t that kind of book. But I think if you know that going in, you can enjoy it for what it is. (And I still think she is totally adorable – and funny, and very smart!)

Ellie Kemper is so hilarious in her on screen roles and I have often wondered whether she is similar to her characters; and this book shows that she is just as funny. The book reads like a collection of essays instead of an autobiography and is so enjoyable. I read it in her voice the whole time and I bet the audiobook would be fantastic. She writes exactly as I would expect (which is a compliment) and is a fun read.

I am a huge fan of Ellie Kemper! I loved her in The Office and then again in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt so I was beyond excited when I saw My Squirrel Days on Netgalley! Ellie is hilarious, she filled the pages of this book with truly laugh out loud moments. Her stories kept me glued to my kindle, up late laughing so hard I would wake my husband.

Ellie Kemper's book is exactly what I was expecting from her, and that's not a bad thing by any means. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is one of the few comedy shows that I watch and I'm glad to see how much her sense of humor shines through in this book. While there's some exaggeration in her stories, she makes sure that it's entertaining enough to keep you wanting more. There were times where I literally would catch myself laughing out loud while reading this book and that's a great feeling.

In the vein of Tina Fey's "Bossypants," Mindy Kaling's two books, etc., Ellie Kemper is the latest comedienne to publish a quasi-autobiography in the form of comic essays. I'm a fan of this type of book, and I enjoy her in "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," so I thought I'd check this one out and I wasn't disappointed. She is very funny and comes off like a real person, though she leans perhaps a tad too hard on the self-deprecating humor as she deals with the parts where she becomes a more successful actress. If you enjoy comedic celebrity memoirs, you should enjoy this one too.

I really enjoyed reading these little bits of fun from Ellie Kemper's life. I didn't know much about her previously, other than her characters on the Office and Kimmie Schmidt. She has a fun lighthearted style, and comes off as genuine. I have found that other "funny ladies' " books have come off as though they were trying too hard to be funny and I didn't really get a sense of who they were. But I felt like Ellie was really giving us a glimpse into the real her.
