Ellie Kemper is not Erin. Ellie Kemper is not Kimmy Schmidt. Ellie Kemper is a comedian, an actress, a wife, a mother and...finger crossed....soon to be my friend.

My Squirrel Days is a hilarious collection of essays, covering Ellie's childhood, college improv days, motherhood and...yes, of course, her career on The Office and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Ellie is..a delight. Funny, smart, friendly and open.

I truly enjoyed this book, many times, shaking with laughter at Ellie's over dramatic childhood dramas and comedy insights.

Ellie Kemper is so sweet and funny. My Squirrel Days is a collection of essays about various events in her life. There’s no celebrity dirt in it, but it’s not needed. Even if she wasn’t famous, this book would still be hysterical. I laughed out loud so much while reading it.

I only know Ellie from The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Bridesmaids but she has quite an impressive resume. She went to Princeton and spent several years doing improve before landing a role on The Office. She’s also written for several publications including McSweeney’s and The Onion. She’s one smart cookie, which is why this book is so well written and hilarious.

I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves to laugh – even if you’ve never heard of Ellie Kemper.

I am not the biggest fan of Ellie Kemper, but I do adore her as Becca in Bridesmaids and Kimmy Scmidt. I didn't read this one through, admittedly I skipped through and read what interested me, mainly early life and the roles I mentioned. The book would be better off in the hands of a bigger fan, bit ur was interesting and full of humor.

Ellie Kemper is adorable.

From begrudgingly giving up her bike in SoulCycle to almost causing a scene over her lentils, Ellie displays how to be a modern woman in this chaos we call 2018. She seems like such a go-getter and her attitude and outlook on life is very refreshing.

I really loved the chapter on SoulCycle, BUT I do think I'm getting burned out on celebrity memoirs at the moment. I only know Ellie from The Office and Bridesmaids (I dont have Netflix, what's your password). This was enjoyable but I wasnt like ... dropping everything to pick it back up again. Strong 3 stars.

Thank you Scribner for letting me check out this book!

Note: I received a copy of My Squirrel Days by Ellie Kemper via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Let me express that I love Ellie Kemper. Granted, I have only watched the pilot episode of The Office, but Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is one of my all-time favorite comedies. & I get so excited when she pops up as a guest appearance in other shows such as The Mindy Project. Y’see, I have two types when it comes to women: the woman that would punch me in my face & I’d thank her for it (i.e. Jessica Jones & Rosa Diaz) & the type of woman who’s so extremely bubbly & ridiculous that you just want to kiss on the forehead (i.e. Jess Day & Kimmy Schmidt); obviously, Ellie Kemper often satisfies the latter of the two.

My point to this entire thing is that I love Ellie Kemper. & reading My Squirrel Days was such a satisfying read, because of it. With every word typed into Ellie Kemper’s memoir, her voice screamed through it. I could perfectly picture every scenario listed & found myself constantly exclaiming, “yep! That’s Ellie Kemper for ya!”

Some of the anecdotes that Ellie Kemper wrote in My Squirrel Days could seem incredibly random (for example, she tells a story about a future Ellie Kemper in her deathbed, telling her grandchildren about how she rode a stationary bike 500 times), but were still fun & flowed nicely with the rest of the memoir.

If you’re a fan of memoirs & more importantly, a fan of Ellie Kemper, I strongly recommend that you get your paws on My Squirrel Days! It’s a pretty quick read & full of good ol’ laughs.

This book is a delight! I swear I had a big smile on my face throughout the whole thing. Much needed in these past few days.

I love Ellie Kemper. I am a big Kimmy Schmidt and Office fan and it is good to know that the woman we see on tv is just as funny and sweet as we think she is. Her stories are hilarious, whether it be her staged Christmas plays for her family (darn it Grandma) or trying out for SNL, she will have you laughing. Every mother will relate to her story about becoming a mom and how that changes you. And everyone will relate to her honesty.

This book is just pure fun and I think that is something we all need about right now. It probably would be wonderful to listen to her tell her story on audio. You might want to check that out.

Thanks to Netgalley and Scribner for a copy of this wonderful book.

This book cracked me up! Ellie has such an authentic comedic voice and I could hear her in my head as i read these hilarious short stories. Similar to other memoirs by comedians such as Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, Kemper writes about her childhood, growing up and her career as an actor and comedian. If you liked those other comedic memoirs, you’ll most likely like this one as well. Thanks for the advanced copy!

Ellie Kemper is an actress who was on the TV sitcom The Office and who now stars in the Netflix hit show Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. In her first book of very funny essays titled My Squirrel Days, Kemper who is from the Midwest, writes about her upbringing in a small town and her decision to try and break into showbusiness. Along the way she fell in love and had a child. She also has had interactions with many celebrities.

If you are a fan of Kemper, as I am, the book reads as she sounds and speaks, meaning she writes in quirky fun language while always keeping the reader in the loop.

The first essay titled "Hero" in which she tries to make her reader understand why she tried very hard to emulate and impress an assistant teacher back in grammar school who left such an impression on her she still do this day has a stuffed animal she received from her is adorable. The book's title comes from another essay in which Kemper tries to outfox a squirrel. One of my favorite essays is "Daughter" in which she decides to impress her parents by washing their car with brillo pads. And the reason is brilliant.

My Squirrel Days is a very fun read about the life so far of a very funny woman/comedian/TV personality/wife/mother. I highly recommend this book.

Ellie Kemper is a treasure. I have enjoyed her characters in everything I have seen her in.
I'm pleased to say that her book is just as delightful as her cinematic projects.
There are two types of modern autobiographies. One that describes normal people and their ascent to success or those that are born in privilege, remain in privilege, and make huge mistakes. I much prefer the first type and Kemper throws a cheerful comedic twist into the mix.
The book is a collection of memoir style essays from her life. Each essay gives a different look into Kemper's personality.
I laughed out loud a lot. I especially enjoyed her footnotes. I shared a lot of the book stories with my husband, who had to know why I kept laughing.
Highly recommend to pretty much everyone.

In My Squirrel Days, Ellie Kemper shares anecdotes from her childhood and in Hollywood.

This book won't be the place to find deep, seedy confessions or stories. It is, after all, titled My Squirrel Days. These are the chippy, fluffy anecdotes of the good things in her life.

Think of it as a sort of literary, word-based Instagram feed. It shows the choice snapshots of her most happy, picture-worthy times, all presented with aesthetically-pleasing filters.

If you come looking for an edgier, more adult version of Erin from The Office or Kimmy Schmidt, you won't find it here. Instead, you'll find a more intelligent but still just as wacky version of those characters, who I now see are very much modeled in Kemper's image.

And that's okay.

This is Kemper's truth. Surely she faces struggles and obstacles (maybe?), but her days and temperaments are largely squirrelly, and that's a big part of her charm.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Scribner for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

There comes a time in every sitcom actress’s life when she is faced with the prospect of writing a book. When Ellie Kemper’s number was up, she was ready. Contagiously cheerful, predictably wholesome, and mostly inspiring except for one essay about her husband’s feet, My Squirrel Days is a funny, free-wheeling tour of Ellie’s life—from growing up in suburban St. Louis with a vivid imagination and a crush on David Letterman to moving to Los Angeles and accidentally falling on Doris Kearns Goodwin.

But those are not the only famous names dropped in this synopsis. Ellie will also share stories of inadvertently insulting Ricky Gervais at the Emmy Awards, telling Tina Fey that she has “great hair—really strong and thick,” and offering a maxi pad to Steve Carell. She will take you back to her childhood as a nature lover determined to commune with squirrels, to her college career as a benchwarming field hockey player with no assigned position, and to her young professional days writing radio commercials for McDonald’s but never getting paid. Ellie will guide you along her journey through adulthood, from unorganized bride to impatient wife to anxious mother who—as recently observed by a sassy hairstylist—“dresses like a mom.” Well, sassy hairstylist, Ellie Kemper is a mom. And she has been dressing like it since she was four.

I was excited for her book to come out. Enjoyed her in the Office! This was a hilarious look into the life of Ellie Kemper with the opportunity to laugh and to learn. There are some excellent things you learn about the entertainment industry along the way!

Great concept, great book. Definitely a memorable read.

I really enjoy Ellie Kemper and I was very excited for her memoir. I read the book with her voice in my head and I could almost hear her say the words. I wish that I had been able to listen to the book as an audiobook. I think that I would have enjoyed her anecdotes better that way.

Ellie is lucky to have a great family and husband. I appreciated knowing a little bit more about learning improv and comedy, but I just don't think it was enough to fill an entire book.

Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for the free advance copy. But, heck, I would have read this no matter what. Can we just make it a law the all funny female actress/comedians/improvers have to write a book?! They never fail to disappoint me. Ellie is hilarious. And I even learned a few behind-the-scenes entertainment industry things that I never heard before (they do your hair and make-up just to audition for SNL!) I highly recommend this book if you like laughing - so basically to everyone but my grandma.

Sometimes we just need to take a break from all things awful and terrible. Have you watched the news lately? Have you cried and then drowned your feelings in pumpkin beer watching certain facets of American democracy crumble?

Screw it. Read a celebrity memoir. Pretend the real world doesn’t exist. Giggle at Ellie Kemper’s various exploits.

What I’m trying to say is, yes, I like Ellie Kemper. Her starring in something is now a selling point for me. I will watch the thing if she’s in the thing. My Squirrel Days confirmed my love for Ellie Kemper because, I, too, don’t get what’s so great about ‘The Tyger’ or why emails need to sound like they were written with a goddamned quill. Let us rejoice with some unrestrained AHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAs and lots of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because onomatopoeia is the best, and so are exclamation points, damn it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And because my energy all but vanishes after 5:30 PM, too.

Overall, though, Squirrel Days is a fairly typical comic memoir. Not a lot of information revealed, but plenty of funny stories about missing lentils and stuffed walruses. It’s great if you want to just pretend the world doesn’t exist and want to hear a funny story about young Ellie befriending a squirrel.

Elle Kemper's memoir was a truly enjoyable read. It felt like having a conversation with a good friend. I enjoyed learning about her career and personal journey.

This adorable novel from Ellie Kemper is reflective of her turn in the spotlight. She shares stories about life, run ins with actors, crushes on actors, and everything in between. (My only complaint is that she didn't delve too far into her personal life - not as much as I expected).

We know her as Kimmy on the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and while it's easy to eye roll at actors for venturing to a new role as "author," Kemper's book read like improv. I read My Squirrel Days with her voice in mind, which in ways reminds me of Lauren Graham's writing.

This cute, fun read is a great addition next to books by Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Aziz Ansari.

I very much enjoyed this book. It was funny and interesting, with a great style. Ellie Kemper did not disappoint.

I'm pretty sure I am not alone in my feelings that I feel like Ellie Kemper is my friend. I mean, she just might be the most fun, and happiest celebrity on the planet - free from scandal, always smiling, and just about as sugary sweet as one can be right? I was SO excited to read her book, and as much as she tries throughout to convince us that she's not all sugar and everything nice - but a bit more spice than most people realize ... well, I don't believe you Ellie!! Haha! Not one bit. Even if it is true! Sorry!

It's like those celebrities that have the tarnished images and try so, so hard to prove they're not bad, and try so hard to change their image after a scandal or rumor... by doing charity work, or smiling all the time or doing wholesome movies... Ellie is the opposite. She's trying throw some dirt on the squeaky clean with some silly cranky teenager stories, insulting other celebs, and not-so-sunny thoughts that go through her mind when someone tries to steal her Soul Cycle bike, but I'm just not buying it Ellie! Nor do I want to!!

I am convinced she is EXACTLY like her character, Kimmy Schmidt. Cheerful, naive, and adorable. And I will carry that with me forever! It took me a bit to get into the book - I really don't follow bios well, when its about childhood or mom stuff - but I devoured the celebrity scoops and interactions and this book is chock full of them. I STRONGLY suggest getting the audiobook for this one. I read this in my head, with her voice - and I just think Ellie telling her own story, in her own voice, full or snark and wit and charm would be the icing on the cake that is her sweet, sugary life story!

A few essays in, I almost put this down. It felt like another book written by a comedic actor simply because someone asked them too and not necessarily because they had anything notable to say. I didn’t dislike it, I just wasn’t connecting with it. But I kept going and I’m glad I did. Ellie’s ability to show that, outside of being a famous actress, she is a normal human being just trying to make it in the world reminded me a bit of Mindy Kaling’s books, which I loved dearly. I found myself identifying with Ellie in many ways, and I liked that she never took herself too seriously in her stories. If you’re a fan of the Office and/or Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (or even if you’re not!), and you’re looking for a light, quirky read, this would be a good choice.

This is one of those books that is everything you thought it would be and more. I laughed, I cried, I laughed until I cried. My face hurt from smiling. Don't get me wrong, there are some great lessons in here and some things really touched me, but she is such a good story teller that you don't even realize until you've gone onto the next thing. Such a great read and I'm so glad I was able to get it. 5 out of 5 stars. I would recommend it to everyone.
