How to Train Your Baron by Diana Lloyd is the First book in the What Happens in the Ballroom Series. This is the story of Elsinore Cosgrove and Quin Graham.
Elsinore is the youngest in her family and is treated as such...but Elsinore has a curious nature which leads her into trouble. Quin happens to save her but also ends up having to marry her...a women who he didn't even know her name. But Quin is in town on a serious matter that doesn't give him time for a wife much less one he can care about.
This was actually a funny story but also one with some adventures in it.
Loved their story.

Elsinore just wants to have some adventure. Not conform to what society says she must do how she must act. She doesn't want marriage and neither does Quin. But after being found in a compromising position they find themselves engaged. Both of them have very different ways they plan on handling this arrangement. Quinn thinks he can just ignore her. And she thinks she can train him to be the husband she wants. This story has so many facets that you don't want to put it down. I enjoyed the humor and the characters were so well developed. You get so caught up it that you don't want to put it down. It's funny, mysterious, and intriguing. In this her debut Diana Lloyd really hit’s the mark. I will be waiting for her next adventure with the love story mixed in. I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

Hilarious, heartwarming and deliciously readable, How to Train Your Baron is a delightful Regency debut from a terrific new writer of historical romance: Diana Lloyd.

Excitement and adventure are sadly missing from Elsinore Cosgrove’s life. Unlike other women of her class, Elsinore has grown weary of balls and parties and yearns to shake off the stifling shackles of polite society and be the mistress of her own destiny, free to make her own choices and decisions. When Elsinore reaches the end of her tether and finds herself unable and unwilling to take it anymore, she plans her escape from a ballroom and goes in search of some much-needed adventure. Only things do not go exactly to plan and her hasty exit from her old life leads her straight down the path to matrimony! Now engaged to an aggravating and infuriating Scottish baron, Elsinore might be down, but she is certainly not out. If she is going to be spending the rest of her life saddled to Quin Graham, then she is determined to mold him into the kind of husband she wants him to be. But little does Elsinore realise that her new fiance is not the biddable kind…

Quin Graham is a man with plenty of secrets in his heart. Hounded by shame and dishonor, marriage might not have been high on his list of priorities, but as it seemed the only way out of yet another scandal, he reluctantly agrees to become engaged to Elsinore Cosgrove. However, Quin is in for a shock when he realises that the woman he is betrothed to is far removed from the kind of woman he was expecting to become engaged to. Elsinore is clumsy, clever and curious and she does not do what she is told! Being set aside is something she is certainly not prepared for and she is going to make sure that Quin knows it!

Thrust together by circumstance and united by a passion which simply cannot be denied, Elsinore and Quin soon find themselves drawn to one another. But Quin makes it clear from the start that theirs can only be a marriage in name only as he simply cannot allow anybody to breach the walls he had built around his heart – not even the woman who has come to mean the world to him: Elsinore…

How to Train Your Baron is a fun read that sparkles with warmth, hilarity, charm and heart which I simply couldn’t put down. Full of wonderful repartee, laugh out loud moments, richly drawn characters and poignant romance, How to Train Your Baron is a terrific historical romance that is a must-read for fans of Tessa Dare and Sarah Maclean.

Elsinore was a fantastic heroine I couldn’t help but cheer for and Quin was a delightfully brooding and enigmatic hero who will make readers swoon!

A fabulous read from a writer with a very bright future ahead of her, fans of historical romance will not want to miss Diana Lloyd’s fantastic debut, How to Train Your Baron!

Elsinore Cosgrove got more than she bargained for when she left the ballroom in search of Lord Byron. Quin Graham didn’t exactly sign up for a bride when Elsinore got her hand stuck in a guillotine, but hey everything happens for a reason, right? How to Train Your Baron is a delightful story of a young woman in search of adventure before having to be forced into a marriage she wouldn’t want, while a young man, who has experienced more tragedy than one should have to bear, tries to find redemption. Can they let down their guards and let each other in?

What I loved about this story is there was humor, love, and mystery. This was extremely well written, and you didn’t notice you were reading over 300 pages. While I understood Elsinore’s need for adventure, there were moments of, “Well, that was unnecessary…” but those moments set up scenes of hilarity. I would be interested in reading other books in the series, however many that would hold!

Sometimes a quest for adventure can lead us somewhere we never imagined to be. That's what happens to Elsinore Cosgrove. Suddenly her life isn't what she had imagined. But she plans to make the most of her new situation. Only if her fiance will be as accommodating as she wants him to be.
This book is very well-written. I enjoyed it a lot and I think it's a must read for historical fiction readers.

This book was great! This is the first I’ve read this author, and I’ll definitely be looking into her next books. I really enjoyed her writing style. Plenty of drama keep you intrigued and the twist and turns keeps the reader glued to the pages. Elsinore and Quinn are likeable and I just loved the banter between them. Both have a tough time of getting their life in order and they truly try. Over all I was turning pages quicker than I could read. It was intense, funny and just keeps the reader engrossed. I will definitely be reading more from this author!

Caught in a compromising situation Graham agrees the marry the Duke’s youngest daughter. His life is dangerous and he vows to send her away to protect her, but she has her own plans. With the help of a dog training book and the Kama sutra she plans to make him change his mind.

Elsinore was a fun heroine. The ever curious, accident prone, clumsy girl’s adventures were exceedingly amusing. The Baron’s sense of humor is perfectly matched to his wife’s mishaps. The story set up and action are terrific. I just wish we would have seen more of the affection between the characters after their marriage.

An adventure almost from the first page when we find the heroine, Hippolyta, oops, I meant Elsinore Cosgrove caught in an unusual situation at a ball. Our hero, Quin Graham saves her, well yes, in more ways than one as fate would have it. The youngest daughter of a duke, Elsinore ends up marrying gorgeous Scot Graham and hopes to make him fall in love with her. Oh and from advice from a training guide for hunting hounds she hopes to mold him into the perfect husband! This story is full of humorous moments and if mischief can happen, Elsinore is right in the middle. But there is a serious side as we find Graham trying to recover from many loses and never had he intended to remarry. As they travel to his home in Scotland, things begin to unravel and there is a mystery to be uncovered and enemies to be found. This was a delightful story that I could not put down until the end. I look forward to more by this author and hope the wait is not long!

Quin Graham has come to London to hire a runner to help solve the mystery of who keeps sending him threatening letters after the deaths of his wife and infant son. While at a ball, he unwittingly becomes entangled with Lady Elsinore Cosgrove when he tries to free her hand from a scaled-down guillotine prop. When he finally gets her free, they both end up on the floor with wine split all over them, just in time for the Duke to walk into the room. Quin has no choice, but to offer for Elsinore's hand. This is the last thing he wants when he's surrounded by danger. Elsinore is furious that she's trapped into a marriage because of circumstances. She must try to make the best of her marriage in the strange land of Scotland. Can Quin keep her safe from harm while he tries to figure out who's trying to kill him and everyone he loves?

This was such a fun and clever book. Ms. Lloyd has written such well-rounded characters and Quin and Elsinore's banter when they're not arguing is very entertaining. I loved Quin. He was so honorable and tried so hard to keep Elsinore safe. The mystery was a great addition to a very enjoyable regency romance.

Such a unique, wonderful story! Lady Elsinore is the youngest of six children of an English Duke. While at a party one evening she finds herself in a bit of a pickle and enlists the aid of Quin, a Scottish Laird, to extricate herself from it. But, no good deed goes unpunished and the two are caught in a laughable, yet compromising position.
In order to escape social ruin for both of them, the two are set to marry. This begins a trail of intrigue and danger for both of them that follows them from London into the Scottish highlands. All the while the heroine, attempts to “train “ her husband into becoming the spouse of her dreams, by using a dog training manual and a copy of the Kama Sutra! She is a delight. The book is filled with colorful characters, an interesting plot, and plenty of heat.
I highly recommend this book to readers of historical romance who want to be pulled into a few hours of stasrt to finish fun.

This was a very entertaining book. I liked the character of Elsinore, although she was prone to getting herself into trouble. Quin Graham, was also a likeable character and between the two of them, they provided moments of amusement. They were a pair well matched. He had his secrets and Elsinore was determined to find out what they were. I loved that she used a manual for training hounds to try to manage Quin. This was a good paced read with interesting characters, mystery and romance. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

An untamed lady in search of a great adventure
Elsinore, the youngest daughter of the Duke of Wallingford longs for adventure, and is never too shy to seek it out, no matter the trials or perils she may come to in the process. Her latest foray while at a ball during her late-come season lands her in more peril than she can deal with herself. But, thankfully, a gentleman comes to her rescue. However, it only takes a mishap mid-rescue to ruin what’s left of her reputation and bind her to the mysterious Scottish Baron who came to her rescue.
A man hounded by a sordid past
Quin Graham has had more misfortune in the past year than any man can be expected to face with grace. Tormented by what could be construed as either blackmail or harassment following the death of his wife, Quin has come to London to seek a solution to his situation, and he finds himself gaining a new wife in the process. A spirited wife determined to do things her own way and deserving of much more than he has to offer her. But he’ll not have the fair Elsinore ruined when he can help it. Nor will he allow himself to grow close with the woman who could easily earn his affection when he knows his arrangement with any wife cannot be of the usual sort.
An adventure the both of them are unprepared for
The adventure Elsinore sought out has turned out to be more of a series of intrigues designed to devastate her husband, who she hopes to hold dear and persuade into a more traditional course for their marriage. Even if she has to employ the wisdom of a book designed to help in the training of hounds, rather than husbands...
A fascinating whirlwind of intrigue, romance, and adventure, How to Train Your Baron is sure to appeal to lovers of historical romance, especially fans of handsome Scottish heroes. Elsinore is a haphazard adventurer, one you’ll root for and lament over in turn, and Quin a standoffish hero you’ll come to understand as, one by one, his secrets come to light and as he succumbs to the many charms of his accidentally obtained new wife. He just might find love to be the greatest adventure of all, and one that might be a worthy offering to Elsinore, if the perils that hide with the skeletons in his closet don’t doom them both.

This was a very funny book. It had adventure and a mystery that was ok. I felt like the flow or something was off. There were elements that could have been expounded on. Overall I liked the story and the characters. I will definitely look for this authors next book.

This was a mysterious but humorous tale. I thought her name interesting Elsinore Anne Mary Charlotte Cosgrove Graham, it was as unusual as she was. She was the last of five sisters and one son, they had all married but her. There are several moments where you can't help but laugh. Elsinore was always finding herself in fixes and Lord Graham had a few secrets he did not want to divulge. He was Scottish and his estate was there.. Needless to say, he had to offer her marriage because of the Guillotine that her wrist was stuck in. This book was such a delight.
The characters appear to be well matched and the dialogue fits the action. The descriptions of the green and gray picturesque land they traveled thru while on the way to Scotland, that she had noted. The plot was complicated but it definitely keeps your attention. There is a lot to the story, I have not even laid out Lord Graham's problems and they were great. I loved this book and hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

I was gifted a copy of this book. Elsinore Cosgrove is constantly looking for adventure and subsequently almost always getting herself into trouble. The character of Elsinore is a challenging one for me. She is insistent on doing things her own way and generally makes a mess of things. At times, she is petulant and immature. Baron Quin Graham of Menteith comes to Elsinore’s aid when she gets herself into one such predicament. Unfortunately, being alone with a lady at a ball is a scandalous situation and Elsinore and Quin are forced to marry.
“His voice was mesmerizing, low-pitched and rich. Coupled with the soft burr of a Scottish accent, it was the auditory equivalent of warm caramel.”
Quin is a very likable character. But he has several scandalous secrets that he hides from Elsinore.
Lloyd infuses humor throughout the book which is delightful. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from Lloyd.

The antics that Elsinore gets up to are unbelievable funny. The author has created the start of what I know will be an amazing series. The character development is flawless and beautiful. Well done!
