How to Train Your Baron is quite humorous with our heroine Elsinore causing our unsuspecting hero Quin all kinds of problems with liquids whenever possible. Elsinore is determined to have an adventure before marrying for love. She believes she can get Quin to cry off the forced marriage with several misadventures. None of them seem to work, so she keeps trying. Quin seems to have the patience of a saint.

There is a seriousness to their romance due to the secrets Quin keeps from Elsinore concerning the death of his child and wife and the notes he keeps receiving. From the time Quin and Elsinore meet until their arrival at his home in Scotland, Elsinore keeps him on his toes. As time progresses and he is concerned he might fall in love with her, Quin believes the best way to protect Elsinore is to send her away, unless there is a child. Then, he will send her away, but keep the child.

Elsinore has two very informative books she is using to traverse her new marriage, one about training hounds, the other about sex. All goes quite well for a while between Elsinore and Quin. But the ugliness that threatens Quin causes serious problems.

This is my first Diana Lloyd book. It is funny, a quick read and somewhat light-hearted. I am looking forward to reading more from her.

When Elsinore Cosgrove escapes a ballroom in search of adventure, she has no idea it will lead to a hasty marriage. The youngest daughter of a duke, all she wants is to make her own choices. Now she's engaged to an infuriating, handsome Scottish baron who doesn't even know her name! Using all her feminine wiles, along with advice gleaned from a training guide for hunting hounds, Elsinore is determined to mould her baron into the husband she wants.
Quin Graham is a man with many secrets. If another scandal can be avoided with a sham marriage, so be it. Only his fiancée isn't at all what he's expecting, and the clumsy, curious, and clever Elsinore refuses to be set aside.
I think I had a smile on my face from the start when Elsinore fiddles with a guillotine until more than halfway through when things took a more serious turn. The characters are very well portrayed, I loved Quin & Elsinore & the way they interacted. The pace of the book is very good & the author managed to combine a light hearted romance with a mystery very well. There were secrets & misunderstandings as well as an affinity with water. Elsinore’s two books were so very different but the way they influenced her were amusing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book & will certainly read more from the author.

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Lady Elsinore Cosgrove is the youngest of a large family, and dislikes always being treated like a child. She longs for adventure and has a habit of getting into situations that her parents disapprove of. Curiosity might be more dangerous than she thought.
Baron Quin Graham has come to London to find someone without clan ties that can investigate the threats he has been receiving. The deaths of his family have left him unable to trust anyone. The last thing he is looking for is a new bride who could also be in danger.
An amusing, sweet, and adventurous historical romance. It has lovely characters and an intriguing story.
I loved it.

How to Train Your Baron byDiana Lloyd is a fun yet mysterious romp through London and Scotland. The characters are fabulous; well written and believable; fitting the time period and also built with clear distinct personalities. Publisher's Description:

When Elsinore Cosgrove escapes a ballroom in search of adventure, she has no idea it will lead to a hasty marriage. The youngest daughter of a duke, all she wants is to make her own choices. Now she's engaged to an infuriating, handsome Scottish baron who doesn't even know her name! Using all her feminine wiles, along with advice gleaned from a training guide for hunting hounds, Elsinore is determined to mold her baron into the husband she wants.

Quin Graham is a man with many secrets. If another scandal can be avoided with a sham marriage, so be it. Only his fiancée isn't at all what he's expecting, and the clumsy, curious, and clever Elsinore refuses to be set aside. For reasons he's unwilling to explain, the last thing Quin needs is to fall for his wife.

My Thoughts:

This delightfully humorous book had me laughing out loud. It was my first time reading anything by this author and I soon discovered that this book is her debut novel.
Elsinore Cosgrove can't seem to stay out of scrapes. She just seems to stumble into trouble that could be her ruin constantly. She doesn't mean to cause trouble but her clumsy and curious nature seems to always land her in trouble none the less.
Quin Graham never intended to marry again and because of his kindness to a rather clumsy Elsinore he has landed himself with an unwanted bride.
I loved this book from the first chapter and could not believe I had actually read the first half of this book I was so completely drawn in. This is a laugh out loud story and made me anxious for more from this new on the scene author.
I gave this book 4.85 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 3.75 of 5.0 flames. Our heroine's introduction to the intimacy of marriage is undeniably humorous and the book carries on as her naivete. abounds. I would have given it 5 stars if there hadn't been a slight stumbling block that took my rating down just a bit.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Who would have thought that a guillotine and a wet courtship could bring so much happiness to two aristocrats?

I really loved this book. It had just the right mix of fun, serious layers and adventure.
Elsinore and Quinn are perfect for each other. Elsinore's spirit, creativity and impulsive behavior helped Quinn solve his trust problem. - Sure, sometimes I could just have shaken him. Stupid man.
But he never tried to suppress Elsinore's spirit. Instead, he was mostly supportive by her side and let her have her own experiences. - For that he immediately won my heart.

How To Train Your Baron by Diana Lloyd was a fun read! As an historical romance you expect a certain amount of miscommunication between the two leads. In this case, the miscommunication was present with a dry wit and a comedy of ‘accidents’.

Elsinore, the youngest daughter of a duke and his esteemed duchess is a young lady looking for adventure and being able to make her own decisions. Unfortunately, her decisions lead to all types of accidents and mishaps that have led her parents to distraction over getting her married. The last straw for her parents was when Elsinore was found lying on top of a man, while alone with the same man in a room covered in wine, her dress askew giving him a kiss. Elsinore was promptly set up to marry him. He is a Scottish Baron, Quin Graham, a man who was not ready to marry and had series trust issues with women. Together forced into wedlock, neither able to explain to the other truthfully how they feel, the story continues to twist with the addition of suspicious notes and happenings. I loved how Elsinore took the information from a book on how to train your dog and tried to make that information into helping her to train and understand her Baron!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. How to Train Your Baron by Diana Lloyd was a fun read!

Disclaimer: I am shockingly new to the romance genre in general, and seemed to have randomly stumbled into a historical romance binge during my much larger historical obsession.

This is one of those books where I debated on the rating, because while I fiercely loved some of it and literally laughed out loud, there were a few moments and scenes I was less into or I hated—some of them I'm thinking could be contributed to the alpha male trope? The bad ones were usually addressed fairly well, however, with Quin being called on being douche-y by himself or Elsinore, with the exception of a couple, and Elsinore addresses most of her own less than stellar moments.

But, taking those extremes to the the side, there's suspense, humor, mystery, and many dog references. I also enjoyed the breakdown of the context of both the characters' motivations.

Shut The Front Door!! This is an insanely great read and although I'm new to the historical romance genre, this is a must read. I admit the blurb lured me in, but right from the very first page the story kept me turning those pages.
This book has it all love, suspense, an alpha hero and a tad nutty but absolutely perfect heroine. I loved Elsinore! She made the story perfect. Quin was the perfect alpha male reeling from the loss of his son and betrayed by his late wife he leaves Scotland to travel to England to find help with uncovering the mystery back home. Something that has left him with a hardened heart at times, suspicious of what he thinks he sees or hears but taken with the lovely Elsinore. It's by a curious Elsinore wanting to escape her future bound in a loveless marriage and the youngest daughter in the family who has never been allowed to use her voice and is discounted at every turn. Happenstance puts these two together and the outright laugh out loud moments, which are many through this book has him proposing marriage. To her dismay once again Elsinore has no day in things and finds herself married to this Scot within days and headed back to his home in Scotland. There the story takes a wonderful turn into the suspense that unpins the story. Page turner. The twists and turns were perfect and... you have to read the book. It's an absolute must read.
If the author has any doubt about this story, rest assured it's stellar and I'd give it more than five stars!

I loved this story of Elsinore and Quin, who is Lord Graham. They met at a ball while she was caught in a guillotine, a small one. They were found in a compromising situation and were married. Elsinore wanted adventure in her life and love, but how can she get him to love her. Books are the answer, one naughty and one on training hounds which seemed to work well for Lord Graham. There's something strange going on with Quin and his household. He has secrets that he has been carrying for months. There's rumors and gossip, but he won't share the reasons. Adventure and possibly death follows Elsinore. Will Quin be able to protect her and will be learn to love her? Great book with adventure and love. I received this book from Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for an honest review and no compensation otherwise.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgally in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are my own.

Elsinore and Quin seem perfectly matched. Elsinore is a young woman-child that is longing for adventure and to believe in fairies again. Let's not mention the fact that Everytime she tries and finds adventure, scandal insures. Quin is a man that's seen more then his chair of danger and adventure. Together they seem a match made in heaven.

Overall I loved the book. It equal amounts of hot scenes, adventure, and danger. Not to mention hilarious scenes. I especially loved the scene with the guilitine. It was ridiculously hilarious. The scene was the perfect meet cue. "I dont think it will fit" and "as soon as it's nice and slippery" are just examples of the author's brilliance. In conclusion, oh course I would recommend this book and this author.

It’s witty and amusing , the banter between the characters is so wonderfully written and it was a pleasure to read .
It also has drama and adventure, a murder mystery of sorts .
Taking you from London and the Ton Ballrooms, to Edinburgh and the edge of the Scottish Highlands .
This book has everything and will keep you entertained for a good few hours .

An enjoyable read! The premise of the heroine "training" her husband with tips from a book on hunting dogs was great. I'm also a huge fan of puns and love the title.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
