This was a DNF for me.
The writing was smooth enough, but the story felt episodic – the focus/problem to be solved shifted - and yet the teaser problem (wolf/amnesia) is largely resolved in the first 30%.

Ultimately I wasn’t able to handle the flips in tone and the sexual violence. There is genuine sweetness between the main characters, but the build-up and the description of brutalization of the helpless was enough to make me stop reading.

3 of 5 because of the premise, and the quality of writing was fine, but I couldn’t keep going.

Past Imperfect by Rowan Worth is a fabulous read. A little long but so much story! There is mystery, romance, suspense and more. Very unique and detailed storyline. The characters are many and unique. Love the family and love the restaurant staff! Can't wait to read more from Rowan Worth.

Hilarious paranormal romance, with a tough albeit sweet familial connection that anyone with a fondness for family saga will find appealing. Natalie is a fantastic chef with bad taste in men and a soft spot for animals so when she finds an injured ..erm dog she takes it him. Only to find out isn't a dog its some kind of wolf.
And that's not all it is.
The story is so funny as Natalie finds herself in lust with a man that's perfect for her, with a family that's almost perfect with a couple of quirks.
Brilliant paranormal romance with lots of suspense, laughs and romance.
Awesome.

This book was like 3 gigantic books rolled into one. Just when I thought we were wrapping things up with one larger story, we moved right into what I would call book 2 and book 3. It made for a longer reading experience and introduction to the world of these shifters.

Natalie is a chef working at rebuilding her life after a boyfriend cut down both her bank account and her self-worth. One night, her good nature gets her into a bunch of trouble. She discovers a seemingly stray and injured dog outside the restaurant and can’t stop herself from taking him home. This “dog” ends up being easily identified as a wolf and begins a whole mess of drama for poor Natalie. All of this starts to go a little sideways when the wolf ends up transforming into a man with amnesia who ends up becoming her love interest.

On top of this, there’s a bunch of thugs trying to get some mysterious cup out of Natalie’s boss. Coincidence? Maybe not? It’s a little unclear how all these moving parts aligned to make Natalie’s life spiral out of control. After one too many attempts on Natalie’s life and one random meeting on the street, she ends up quickly moving into the “pack house.” This pack is unlike anything I’ve read about before and that was a neat unique surprise. It’s a mix of wolves, shifters, and a really close family. Oh, and there’s magic. And some nefarious ex-girlfriends (maybe?). And cops, which are always trouble for supernaturals. And Natalie’s ex-boyfriend. And … did I mention there’s also a plot against the pack for some reason? And some mystery shopper woman? There are so many questions and very few answers to be found in this first of what will most likely be many installments.

This shifter romance has several different angles than the usual, which I really enjoyed. Natalie picks up "Fella" thinking he is a stray dog. Not only is he not a dog but he himself isn't quite sure what he is. His unexpected shifting between human and wolf confuses and scares both of them. It seems he has amnesia and can't remember who he is or how he came to lose his memory. In the meantime, the restaurant Natalie works in is being harrassed by dirty tricks and break-ins. Fella seems like good protection but is his situation tied to the harrassment? We get to eventually meet Fella's pack but that leads to more questions than answers as the plot thickens with additional mysteries. I found the book to be exciting and had a hard time putting it down. There is romance and sex which is involving but it doen't take anything away from the action. This is obviously the first in a series. The relationship between Natalie and Fella does have a conclusion so I wouldn't call this a cliffhanger but much is left dangling. I look forward to the next book as the secondary characters are well done and I want to see what happens to them next..

Past Imperfect by Rowan Worth is the story of Natalie and Ripper 'Fella '.
Natalie finds Fella a wolf/dog hurt and takes him home but Fella is actually a shiftier with memory issues after being hurt. But Fella quickly becomes protective of Natalie since there is danger at her door.
Enjoyed reading their story.

Natalie seen the large dog at the bottom of the stairs of the back of the restaurant. But she couldn’t do anything until she got off work. Natalie was always a sucker for the underdog even though it didn’t always play out well for her. Natalie works at the restaurant Treasures. The dog was hurt sdo Natalie decided to take the dog home with her. A sher boss-Gaspar - mentioned calling animal control. After looking on the internet, Natalie figured out “Fella”/Ripper was a wolf. Natalie seen s a couple of men in the alley at Treasures but Gaspar came to the door with a large knife and they quickly left. Then a while later Natalie is walking Fella and she notices Fella has taken a fierce stance and had growled and looked like a very scary beast ready to battle then she seen two men and wondered if they had followed her home form work. Fella strained at the homemade leash but he stopped when Natalie told him to. Then Fella turned into a man and he was very protective of Natalie but he also wanted her for himself. Fella had been hit by a car and didn’t understand/ remember why he g=had been a wolf then turned into a man. Two men pushed in the restaurant door as Gaspar was preparing to walk Natalie to her car where Fella was. The men pushed her around and yelled at Gaspar but Fella came charging in and ran the men off. Gaspar did most of the explaining to the police. Fella was a werewolf who couldn’t remember to shift back and forth or to be able to hold his man form. Fella believed all the break ins and problems with the two strangers were somehow connected to him. Ten it comes out a serial killer is after local woman and Fella knows he needs to remember how to regain and hold his human form to protect Natalie. Fella does finds out he has a family and a pack and his real name s Ripper.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I really like Ripper and Natalie together and how they interacted. I like this unusual play up of a werewolf with amnesia I just did. I chuckled at times while reading this.I also liked there were dark moments but just as many light moments. I loved Rippers family. I think things would have been a lot easier on Ripper and Natalie if they had just talked instead of stomping off. I did feel this dragged at times for me. I also felt this could have been a bit shorter. But at times I was also on the edge of my seat while reading this. I loved the characters and the ins and outs and I recommend.

Past Imperfect – the first book in The Foresters series is a gripping tale full of magic and romance with wonderful characters and dangerous enemies.

Natalie and ‘Fella’ are strong and charismatic characters that readers find easy to connect to and understand as they drawn into their story. Their relationship starts off with a bit of confusion, misunderstanding and emotional turmoil that sucks readers in and refuses to let go. There is plenty of sweet courtship but lots of sizzling chemistry and heated passion that readers can sink to their teeth into as well.

The plot is steady to fast paced and full of intrigue, danger and excitement which keeps readers on the edge of their seats and gets the reader’s adrenaline pumping. First you have a wolf/dog that has is a bit confused as to why he is what he is and then becomes a man with amnesia whom needs to stay in human form if he is going to keep Natalie alive from a serial killer and some mysterious attacks that are plaguing Natalie’s restaurant. Then ‘Fella’ discovers that he has family and a pack and that there is a lot more going on that they thought and some surprising twists to keep them all on their toes along with the readers. And let’s not forget about the Wizard and magical elements that spice up this exciting story.

The author has created a fascinating and well developed world that has some wonderful characters that readers will really want to get to know, I certainly intend to get to know them all. The story held me in its grip from beginning to end and it has a few uniquely intriguing elements to the pack dynamics that changes things up a bit from other shifter stories.

I struggled with this one quite a bit. Ripper/ Fella is an wolf who had lost his memory and is rescued by Natalie. This book is insanely drawn out and what they tried to do is make the suspense keep you turning pages. However its quite the miss because infelt i just wanted to skim and move one already.

Then we have the maybe HEA? These can not communicate to save their lives. They assume alot amf just when you start to think they have their poop on a group....it goes south. Its really exhausting to read.

Past Imperfect is my first read by Rowan Worth, and I finished this book with mixed feelings. I found myself rereading parts early on and struggling with the first third of the book, as I had to push through. I finally realised that the problem was my lack of interest in either lead character;
and seriously, who names there lead Fella?

Anyway, I did enjoy the world building and was fascinated with the rest of the Forrester family. Dark and light, good and bad complement each other throughout the story, and create enough curiosity that the reader will probably be drawn to the next in the series. I’m still undecided.

2.5 stars.

This book left me with a problem, because there are parts I liked, parts I really didn’t and an awful lot that I was indifferent to. I loved the idea of an amnesiac werewolf and I liked most of the characters, but the main problem I had with the book was that it was too long, dragging everything out before reaching a very unsatisfying conclusion where absolutely nothing is resolved except the romance.

Although, that might not be as concluded as I’d like to think either, because over the course of this book Natalie and Fella/Ripper have a few moments where they seem to be heading towards HEA and have everything settled, and then Natalie will have a sudden panic about something and one or other of them will flounce off because they’re better off apart and talking is not something they’re capable of doing. There’s a lot of not talking and making massive assumptions, on both sides, and it’s all a bit irritating. Especially the big huff towards the end, because the fallout is completely not in keeping with any of the characters involved (especially Ripper’s family), but is highly convenient for the big ol’ plot climax.

Speaking of the plot, it takes a long, long time for it to get going, and although I can see the suspense side of things is the sort that’ll run over the course of a few books, or possibly the whole series, there are several strands and it would have been nice to have had at least one of them conclusively solved. Which doesn’t happen here and left me slightly cheated after sticking with it for so long.

Which is sort of like the sex scenes. Actually, there’s only really one. It’s early on and hot, with a kinky twist. But it also felt a little “off” to me, thanks to the way Ripper brings out his kink without asking at any point if Natalie’s okay with it. Saying you won’t hurt her is not good enough. A simple, “is this okay?” would have sufficed without breaking the mood, he didn’t have to stop everything, sit her down and explain it all (though a bit of advanced warning would be nice), but nope, Ripper just ties her up and away we go.

It made me a little uncomfortable, if I’m honest, and it was also really weird because it is pretty much the only sex scene in the book. These two have plenty of sex, but every other scene fades to black. Which is important when we learn a few things about Ripper and why he acts the way he does during their first time. Except THEY NEVER TALK ABOUT IT! Both reach the same conclusion on their own, but they don’t talk, and it would have been really nice if they had, and maybe we could have seen Ripper being a little less intense. Or Natalie being a little less startled by his rope tricks. Or both of them having a lot more fun, say when they’re messing about around her apartment. If the rest of the book had had more sex, maybe it wouldn’t have been so awkward, but it sets a hot tone early on that the rest of the book bypasses in a very strange way. It also glosses over a few things, like Natalie’s injured elbow – which I can’t see how Ripper could possibly have tied up without hurting her further, especially as she pulls at the ropes on her wrists – and the radio intercom Natalie wanted to set up to enable a bit of privacy, or the self-defence lessons Serena wanted her to have. Any of which would have provided far more entertainment than another round of doubting Natalie or oblivious Ripper.

Also, am I the only person who has heard of Saarloos Wolfdogs and think they’re the perfect excuse for having a dog that looks too much like a wolf? No need to completely make up some Hungarian breed, because there’s already a Dutch one (and a couple of others). Just Google wolfdog and you’ll find plenty. Unless you’re Natalie.

All of which is a real shame, because there’s plenty of stuff about this book to like. Natalie and Ripper are pretty cute together and I loved Ripper’s family – his brothers and male cousin were all a bit interchangeable, but Serena and his uncle were great. There’s a lot of world-building to be done, introducing Natalie to their supernatural lives, but these two provided excellent info-dump conversations and show that it is possible for characters to actually talk to each other in a meaningful and useful way. I also really liked the disconnect between the rules of a wolf pack and the way Natalie is used to living. Her chef boss and the handsome detective were good too.

But the book is too long and there are too many places where nothing much is happening except unnecessary relationship drama between Natalie and Ripper. I thought everything was building towards a big showdown, and although there is a fight at the end, it didn’t end in any way I was expecting and was less exciting or interesting than an earlier dramatic moment. All of which left me feeling flat and a little let down by this book. It has potential and the Foresters themselves are great fun, but I probably wouldn’t want to wade through it again and I’m not convinced the next one will be any different. Still, my curiosity might just be enough to tempt me back one day.

I loved that the story starts with the main hero in the form of a wolf! This book is long, which I liked, and it is packed with action. It has a strong and smart female lead, Natalie, and she was so fun as she took care of “fella”. The story shifts into the mystery and the plot turns a bit darker as the pack struggles to find answers. The secondary characters are intriguing and I am looking forward to reading more about the Forester family!

I struggled with this book, I had to force myself through the first 10 or so chapters and I know you are probably thinking was it that bad? No it wasn’t but I just didn’t find myself drawn to either character Natalie or Fella(this name killed me btw), and there was a lot of world to be built in this book and I found myself more intrigued by the Forrester Family and its dynamics than I did Natalie and Rip. There are some dark moments in this book, but all in all it’s balanced well by the lighter parts. This is the start to a series and it has promise, I’m just not sure if I’ll be jumping into next or not.
