Nalini Singh is a master of foreshadowing and continuity and nowhere is it more evident that the latest installment of her Guild Hunter series. Elena, a mortal turned angel, is devolving and losing her angelic capabilities. It's clearly an impact of the Cascade, the series of apocalyptic events affecting the globe, but Elena won't ignore the risk to her family as her brother-in-law is being targeted. Fast-paced, thrilling, and suspenseful as all get-out, Archangel's Prophecy is a tribute to the love and devotion between Elena and her archangel Raphael and the sacrifices they must make. The last ten pages, ending with a cliffhanger, were intensely riveting but in Nalini we trust.

Let me start with this. A friend of mine also had this title as an ARC and she finished this title before I could even start it. Her recommendation was not to read it. Do not gasp at that statement because she knew how much I loved this series and knew that the title would make me go crazy. So, fast-forward to me NOT listening to my friend, reading this title, and thus reviewing it. Wow! I have to admit that with this series I love the seven stories a lot more then Elena and Raphael. To me their story should have wrapped up a long time ago; however, this book made me rethink that statement. The feels from this story alone make me crazy for the next book. I now understand why my friend told me what she did. She knew I would be so mad and in love with this new title that I would be crazy. Yes, the book I think has brought many new things to the table for our couple. It has almost revamped their story, at least for me. I cannot wait for the next one in the series and as much as I am dying for our bluebell’s story I really want to read more of Elena and Raphael.

The continuing story of Raphael, the most powerful archangel in North America and Elena, his human-turned-angel consort, continues with the eleventh volume of Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter series, Archangel’s Prophecy.

Elena, still getting used to her existence as a blossoming, winged immortal, is still dealing with the aftermath of the events of book ten, Archangel’s Viper.  She starts experiencing murmurations of swarms of birds – first starlings, then white owls - and though she tries to convince herself it’s just a vision, when the earth splits open under her feet and reveals a molten pit which immediately swallows a formidable foe whole, she can’t deny that something out there is trying to tell her something.  Her wings begin to drag and then fall apart immediately afterwards, her powers disappear one by one, and she experiences worsening dreams and a flu-like illness.  The Legion notes that this is part of the Cascade, a chain of fearsome events presaged by prophets to cause an event that will lead to a fearsome cataclysm.  A prophetic voice in Elena’s head warns her that her time is coming – “for one to live, the other must die.”  Mental manipulations begin to affect her daily life, and her body, which should be invulnerable by now, begins to weaken further.

Raphael and the others try to protect her, but Elena still has a case involving a series of gruesome murders to solve, and another evolution toward immortality to endure.  Why are there voices tormenting Elena?  Are Elena’s dreams effecting reality or are they delusions ?  Can she solve the murders with the help of Raphael and the other Hunters?  Or will this be the case that finally takes her life?

Warning: this is not the place for a newbie to jump into the Guild Hunter series.  The good news is that that’s the book’s sole flaw.   If you like your whump, if you like your angst and violence mixed with tenderness, if you like steady world-building, then this is the series for you.

Elena continues to be a mix of stubborn and warm, strong and weak.  Raphael is still her caring and cool-voiced Archangel.  Their friends are dealing with the shifting sands around them and the chaos of the universe.  Prophetic voices and scars continue to haunt Elena, but nothing in the intense, fated, will-kill-for-you destiny-love between them changes.

Devotees of the series likely don’t need me to tell them that this is a fine book.  The mystery is absorbing, and the juxtaposition of the gritty crimes that Elena slogs through and the more mystical world she and Raphael inhabit provide a unique contrast.  She’s tough and vulnerable at the same time.  Minor characters float around them – two relationships go through tumult, and to reveal whose would spoil too much of the central plot.  Baby angels are born, and readers are afforded further peeks into the parallel worlds of vampire and angelic existence.

Singh’s prose remains both lyrically descriptive and sparse, using words dropped carefully onto the page like rose petals – or drops of blood.  There are some beautiful passages about the way immortals cannot stop time from passing around them – they are the center of a hurricane of their own making, so to speak, and others swirl around them as they stand, unaging in the center.  There are deeper things going on in the story than the simple push-pull between Elena and Raphael’s attraction, and the reader will likely be lost in the world she evokes for them.  The action scenes are sharp and brilliant, like carved diamonds embedded in black velvet.

Archangel’s Prophecy is another slice of sexy, violent, amusing and gritty storytelling.  If you’ve been aching for another volume in the story of Elena and Raphael’s epic love story, you’ll be enchanted.

This episode in the Guild Hunter series (book 11) is more intimate than the last few. Lijuan is supposed to be in Sleep, though there is some question about how deep her Sleep is and if she is still influencing events in China. Favashi, who took over China when Lijuan left, is doing some things that don't seem like her, including massing an army on her border.

The angels are also still dealing with the various Cascades which have been causing new, and probably dangerous, talents to appear. The Cascades are also causing physical things to happen like a volcanic sinkhole in a place that never had volcanic activity before and torrential rains in the Sahara desert.

The Cascade also seems to be affecting Elena. She seems to be regressing; her wings are drooping and feathers are falling out; she's constantly hungry yet still losing weight; she's losing her ability to talk mind-to-mind with Raphael. While this is all going on and the doctors are baffled, she is also dealing with an attack on her vampire brother-in-law and the recent deaths of other vampires in the Quarter.

Elena is also hearing a voice in her head that is spouting prophecy and that says she will have to die so that another can live. As the other things the voice has prophesied begin coming true Elena is determined to fight for her own destiny and not the one foretold in the misty past. She and Raphael are going to fight this together with all the resources they have.

This was a very exciting entry into the Guild Hunter series. I loved the relationship between Elena and Raphael. The story was emotionally intense. I couldn't put it down. The ending has me begging for the next Guild Hunter book.

It ends in a cliffhanger. A huge one. I got to the last page and was furiously trying to get the next page and was wondering if my ARC was defective and was missing a chapter or a page or a paragraph. It just ended with so much left open ended. It explained a little but not much. I really hope the next book is about Raphael and Elena. I’m not sure I could take it if I had to read about some random couple before getting a solid explanation.

Elena and Raphael weren’t together nearly as much as I’d hoped. The part of the story involving them and the overarching issues with the cascade was great. There were more weird power fluctuations. A bunch of bizarre things were happening to Elena and she kept getting weaker and weaker. It was obvious something bad was going to happen.

Elena kept insisting that she was going to fight to survive but didn’t really do anything to find a cure or to figure out what was going on. Most of her time was spent working on a case. Although she was determined to solve the case to protect family, the case itself was boring. In many ways it was only peripherally related to her family, so it was hard to stay invested.

The end was so good, but what does it all mean? Things could drastically change from here on out. I desperately want the next book.

Archangel’s Prophecy by Nalini Singh is the 11th book in her fantastic Guild Hunter series. Raphael and Elena take center stage once again in Archangel’s Prophecy. It is always great to be able to spend a lot of time with Raphael and Elena, as they are a great couple…the Archangel and his Consort.

But things are changing, as the cascade threatens again. In China, a major threat to other Archangels threatens all. In New York, Elena is on a case to find out who attacked her brother-in law, thereby putting her sister and niece’s lives in danger. Slowly, Elena begins to notice things happening to her body. She is losing her feathers on her wings, one at a time; cuts do not heal, and each day she becomes weaker. Being the first mortal turned to immortal, Elena realizes that slowly she is losing her immortality. The question is why? No one has any answers.

Elena also hears voices from an ancient long asleep, warning her about the prophecy where she must give her life for another. Raphael is desperate to find the cause that is harming Elena, and brings his ‘seven’ to help.
In the midst of this, is the mystery as to who is killing vampires, including the attack on her brother-in-law. These are the two main storylines that Archangel’s Prophecy centers on; with Elena pushing herself beyond to do what she can to stop this killer, in order to protect her family. Her body continues to weaken, losing part of her immortality and powers along the way. Elena is determined to ignore the prophecy and using her will to try and force it to change to a different future. Raphael was amazing throughout, showing how much he loves Elena, and knowing if he loses her, he will become the monster he always feared. He also knows that an ancient archangel more powerful than any of the other archangels will eventually wake up, casusing a catastrophic war that could destroy them all.

I can’t say too much more, as you really need to read this book. Archangel’s Prophecy was an emotional wild ride that had me rushing through the pages so that I can find out what happens, which of of course made me go back and reread the last 1/3 again. It was great to spend time with Raphael and Elena, and I enjoy their love for each other; but there was anguish, fear, worry as we watched them desperately holding on to hope. I loved seeing all the ‘seven’ and many of their mates. I love Illium, and look forward to whenever we get his story. The Legion was also very good, especially with them watching over Elena and Raphael.

Just so you know, the book ends with cliffhanger, and I cannot imagine waiting another year to find out what happens. Will Raphael and Elena find a way change the direction of the prophecy? What exactly happens to Elena if the prophecy holds true? Too many questions, and too long to wait. Nalini Singh once again gives us a sensational and maybe game changing story. Archangel’s Prophecy is a must read.

OH MY GOD!! I am absolutely speechless. I haven't cried this much over a book in ages. I am terrified to write anything, afraid that I would spoil this book for readers.

5 F@#KING STARS!!!!

First of all, I am a big BIG fan of the series. The past few books had been a treat to read, with their lot of actions and surprises and sentiments. The quality keeps getting better and better which is rare for series so many books.

But Archangel's Prophecy has a slower, much slower pace than usual... Still interesting, may it be the writing and the story but this book felt a lot more like a prelude to the next ones. So kinda unfinished? Oh and also CLIFFHANGER!!!
So my advice will be to wait until book 12 is almost out before starting this one. But do read Archangel's prophecy! It contains tons of information about what's to come and boy oh boy I. CAN'T. WAIT !

This book is a great addition to Singh's Archangel series and will be a hit with fans. This book finally begins to address some of the long standing issues in Elena's family, the power structure of the archangels, and Elena's future as an angel..

This is primarily Elena's story as we follow her as she gradually loves her fight to stay immortal.. Wrapped up in the story is the world building and back story for the next book. Do not expect to find out what and why things are happening. Just go with the flow and say what I did at the end of the book.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

There aren't enough stars for this book. I LOVED it! I never ever want to leave the Guild Hunter world. I wish Nalini would write it exclusively until the series is finished and I love her contemporary novels something fiercely!

I thought I had a grasp on what was happening in the Guild Hunter world, with Elena and Raphael, and everyone else. This book turned everything I thought I knew upside down. And to be honest, I'm shaken but with both worry and awe. Worry because I don't know what's going to happen next and that it'll be at least another year before I find out, and awe because I want to know more NOW and the story itself is just stunning!

Nalini Singh has always been a masterful storyteller, and I never once had a moment of concern that this book would be wonderful, but I also never stopped to wonder how she was going to keep the story going while keeping it fresh. I should have, but I trust her explicitly even if I'm questioning my judgment momentarily.

I'm an emotional reader. This book tapped into them from the very beginning of the book and did not let me go. I went on an emotional roller coaster, with joy, fear, sorrow, anguish, hope, an entire gamut of feelings and though there were moments that left my eyes wet and cheeks damp, I wanted more. The last book I can recall of Nalini's of the top of my head that evoked a similar visceral reaction of this magnitude is Angels' Blood. Don't get me wrong, I've laughed and cried throughout the other books too as I've fallen in love with this world and the characters in it, but not like this.

It's so hard to believe this is book number eleven in the series. I love how it continues to grow and surprise me. There is a reason this is one of my, if not my most favorite paranormal series ever. If you haven't picked up Angel's Blood you are missing out on some amazing stories and experiences. And if you are familiar with this series, you are in for a treat!

Once again, Nalini has blown me away with her stories. Full of romance, puzzles to solve and even MORE character development of the characters we know and love from this series, I couldn't put it down. I CANNOT wait to see what happens next to the characters that feel like family at this point. Singh is a mastermind when it comes to mixing romance and action. She feeds your romance fanatic all while keeping the story moving and pumping the whole time. Do not miss out on this one on release day!!

The latest installment in the Guild Hunter series is mind blowing as always. Seeing the character evolution and the world-building over the years always makes me excited for the next installment. The love between Elena and her archangel, Raphael grows with each installment in new and exciting ways. The ending of this was so incredibly unexpected but once read I realized that it made perfect sense why the author would go in this direction. There were sweet interactions with old characters and the finalizing of a story line for one (almost forgotten) character. My only wish in this book is that a glossary be added. At this point the series has gone on for several years. It may be beneficial for new and old readers to be able to see character evolution or connections within a glossary.

The hunter and the angel's story continues in Nalini Singh's new book Archangel's Prophecy. Something is wrong with Elena, she is becoming more human. Is this because of the cascade, which is affecting the other archangels? Or is this just because mortals should never be made angels?

I really enjoy the Guild Hunter series because Elena is a strong character. A little crazy but she did fall in love with archangel so she should be a little crazy. This story focused mostly on Raphael and Elena. There was a couple appearances of the seven and other lovable characters, but they were brief. I think this did detract from the book slightly because I am vested in the others. Overall the writing is strong the plot was fast and it was refreshing. Sometimes by book 11 the plots become too predictable. I have not found that to be a real issue with this series. I give this a 4 star for creativity and unpredictability.

4.5 Stars

Man, Oh, Man. What a ride. When I picked up this book, I honestly didn't know what to expect or what I was getting into. I should start this review by telling you that I haven't read any of the previous books in the series. I know. I know. After reading this book, I definitely need to. I had never even heard about this series until I came across the Archangel's Prophecy. And once I read the synopsis for this book, I knew I couldn't wait to get caught up, I just had to jump right in. So, I'll be honest with you, in the beginning, I did have a little trouble getting into this story, but that is of no fault, but my own since I didn't have all the previous stories history. That being said, once I got into this story, I couldn't put it down. I immediately got lost in the characters and their story. I was captivated. I was intrigued. I was dying for more. Archangel's Prophecy kept me on the edge of my seat while delivering all the feels. I was not expecting this story to take me on such an emotional ride, but boy did it ever. This story was so unexpected and the ending not only shocked me, but has me dying to get my hands on the next book. And I can promise you, when time allows, I am definitely going to start this series over from the very beginning.

Archangel's Prophecy was a fabulous read from beginning to end. I loved the world that the this author has created and found her story-telling to be very refreshing. I loved all the paranormal and fantasy elements. The characters grab you from the very first page and their story will leave you riveted. Archangel's Prophecy left me with a lot of questions that I am excited to get the answers for. I am so glad I went with my instincts and picked up this book. I will definitely be checking out more from this author in the future.

Overview:
Nalini Singh's series always fly off the shelves, and I was excited to read a novel from this author. Archangel's Prophecy, the 11th book in Singh's Guild Hunter series, continues the story of newly minted angel, Elena, and her partner, archangel Raphael. After returning from a mission, a sickness appears to plague Elena, causing her to become more human. Her injured wing and cuts do not heal, and no healers can figure out the cause. Meanwhile, she hears a mysterious voice in her head with an ominous prophecy. Can Elena survive the voice's warnings? Is she becoming mortal again? The novel ends on a serious cliffhanger, so readers will definitely have to continue the series to keep up with our main characters.

Critique:
I love science fiction and fantasy, but the writing of this particular volume of the series could be stronger. The strength of Singh's story suffers from the occasional banter between the characters that perplexes the reader. There was also a bit of confusion between distinguishing the voice in Elena's head with her telepathic bond with Raphael. Perhaps a different font may help? Overall, I did enjoy the story, and I would recommend it to any science fiction or urban fantasy fan.

The Guild Hunter series has a really interesting story arc to it. I find all of the character's to be very intriguing even the ones that I hate. Nalini Singh can always be trusted to write a series that has engaging characters and a full and fascinating story. I like how this book really made the story move forward so that it did not feel stale or repetitive at all. I am reviewing this book based on an ARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

Nalini Singh returns with another installment to the Guild Hunter series. As one of my favorite series of hers, I was very excited to see what this next story was going to be able. As you know, this series started off with Raphael and Elena and now, eleven books into the series, we have returned to them again. I wasn’t sure how I felt about this at first. With numerous books in the series already, I wondered if there were more stories to tell with this couple. However, what Singh does here is take away the thing that has made them happy and powerful thus far.

Elena was the first mortal to be turned and now she has wings and powers that make her a force to be reckoned with. However, what happens when those wings start to fail her? It’s this intriguing concept that made me interested to know what would happen. With other disasters appearing all over the world, the search for a solution must be done quickly before more problems strike.

ARCHANGEL’S PROPHECY contains emotion and heart. I found the beginning to be a little slow at first but towards the middle and the end, the pace picks up. Singh’s writing is still incredible, especially for this series that has a more lyrical or even poetic approach to the writing. It’s definitely my style and I love that even though we have seen this couple many times before, the stories don’t feel forced or repetitive. This one sets up the future books well but I am hoping for a Illium book sometime real soon. I really don’t want to wait more, especially after his actions in this book.

I have been deeply in love with this series since the beginning nearly eleven books ago. I constantly squirm with excitement whenever new details arrive for her next journey, and always make sure my calendar holds the name of her titles for their release. This book was a long awaited story after hearing news that yet again we got to travel into the world of Elena and Raphael. By far out of all her others, was this the most emotional. I loved that Nalini brought something new to the story, it wasn’t a set of threats we all understood to be potential hoaxes. They were REAL! I was always surprised and doubtful of a good ending, I mean, how could they get that happy ever after with stakes this BIG! But she did it. Nalini tore my heart open and sowed it back together. I was so impressed with the story and the arrival of old and new characters I couldn’t put the book down as I lay awake into the wee hours of the morning taking this journey with my favorite characters. Anyone who comes into my store looking for a romantic tale of suspense and beauty always finds this book in my hands ready to be sold! A masterpiece that has left me hungry for more.
