I wasn't quite connecting with this one and I had to DNF with the possibility of picking up in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to read the book and I apologize for the inconvenience.

An intriguing, mysterious, unfolding onion…

Slowly, painstakingly opening like an onion. That’s the way I am describing this series. This is book fourteen already and we are ever closer to the truth…

Sabina and her brother, brought another intriguing layer to the journey as they worked with Roman and the kings to find the truth. It felt like the romantic relationship between Roman and Sabina was not the focus, instead it was a wonderful companion to the main focus. The sword. The Kings. Their dragons. The Fae. The enemies that they knew and those they were still trying to uncover…

This fantasy/romance series has all the elements for a great read, regardless of the genre, and Roman and Sabina brought a satisfying chapter to the mix. And Sabina’s brother? He may have ended up my favourite character after all…

DRAGONFIRE is Roman's story. Together with V (Finally!!) they're looking for V's sword.

I've never been disappointed in a Donna Grant story and this one is no exception. Entertaining, memorable, and suspenseful come to mind in describing it.

The characters are vivid, exciting, magnetic, magical, surreal… I could go on and on. Camlo is a great addition to the main characters. Loved him.

I'm glad we finally got a decent look at what V.

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley, and I’m reviewing it voluntarily. All opinions are my own.

I have ADHD so it takes a really good writer to keep me focused on a story. It has to be done from the start of the first few chapters or I lose interest. Grant’s books pull me in immediately and in a way that makes me not want to stop reading every last word! Sometimes I don’t get that with other stories. I skip a page here or there, but what this author writes and in this story alone…. I’m just hooked! This will be a go to for me when I’m in a reading funk and need to go back to my favorites to pull me out. Absolutely plan to re-read this and the rest in her series. Wonderfully written. Love the plot and characters. She seems to never disappoint.
I would recommend this book and series to anyone who is interested in paranormal romance. Loved it!

Donna Grant impresses me with each new release in this series. As each book is so connected with others and the plot has gotten very intricate at this stage.

Thank you NetGalley and St.Martins for the ARC

If you’re new to the Dark Kings series….. it’s a long series and one that will take a bit to get through haha. This series is included in her Dark World universe, which also includes the Dark Warrior and Dark Sword series.

Dragon Fire is book 14 in the series and for a complete list: Check out Donna’s page here. :) (https://donnagrant.com/books/series/dark-kings/)

TO THE REVIEW

I really enjoyed reading about Sabina and her past and her career. We don’t get many main characters that are artists in books. Additionally, her brother is awesome. I found myself wishing we got more information on him and his abilities. I’m sure he’ll pop up in later books based on V’s story still outstanding.

Things I liked:
The history and the flashbacks
Sabina’s backstory
V’s backstory

Confusion had me a bit in the beginning. I wasn’t sure which Dragon King Sabina was going to be with based on the plot development. Haha. Eventually it cleared up but it seemed like a ‘settle in’ romance as opposed to a fated mate type story. I”m not sure if that’s due to how Roman was written or if it’s honestly just with the different story lines going on. Also, a lot of this book revolved around V… for all it was supposed to be about Sabina and Roman. #AwkwardThirdWheel

This book is DEEPLY connected to others. There are chapters that a reader will not understand (about reapers, about Rhi’s past and her possible dragon king, about the Queen, etc…) I think that definitely took away from me trying to connect to the main characters.

Overall, the romance was enjoyable and an easy read. However, this book is solidly ‘familiar with the series’ read only. I would not recommend to read this as a one off. In conclusion, if you enjoy fantasy romance - give the series a go and work you way up to this one. The overall plot of the series is worth the read!

Overall rating: 3.5

Happy Reading!

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. The word building was phenomenal in this book. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.

Love me some Dragon shifters! Romance, intrigue and heat! Love Donna Grant! Read any and all of her books! Gifted by Netgalley, this is my honest review.

With book fourteen in the Dragon Kings series, Donna Grant returns with DRAGONFIRE. This book is about Roman and Sabina. Generally, I really like both the heroes and heroines in this series. They are strong without being so in your face about it and although there wasn’t anything specific that I hated about these two characters, I also didn’t fall in love with them the way I thought that I would.

I enjoyed the subtle differences that Grant added into this book. I liked Sabina’s backstory and her personality, but she doesn’t come across as a heroine that will stick with me. I would describe this book as a slow burn because everything, even the romance, does take a while to heat up.

Grant’s style of romance never has been that intense. However, it is still potent enough to hold my attention. Unfortunately, this time I didn’t feel the burn quite as strongly this time. But I can still say that I’m a fan of this series. Grant’s paranormals are my favorites of hers and despite not being completely won over by Roman and Sabina’s story this time around, I will still continue to read this series.

Dragons, gypsies and prophecies … oh my! Sabrina lives with just her brother hidden in the mountains. She and her brother are the last guardians of a prophecy her family has passed down for generations. It is really up to Sabrina as the one to see this through, either fulling the prophecy or bear a child. Because her brother is not exactly all there. He sees things in a different way and comes across as a young child rather than an adult.

I'm not sure exactly how Sabrina thought her family's prophecy would be fulfilled. She avoids people. This means there is no way for her to meet a male to carry on her line, nor is there a way to find the person she needs to help. Still, magic is at work and this is when Roman finds her in her little hidden valley.

Luckily, Roman is drawn here and finds Sabrina. Between the two of them, they figure out Sabrina's purpose in Roman's life. I enjoyed the big reveals in this story. Finally the "Other's" is revealed a bit more. This story arc seems to be drawn out. The ones who want to bring down the Dragons and their motive is still unclear. It is clear that they are willing to do a lot to destroy a race who keeps their promises.

This is another lovely addition to the series. I look forward to each of these books to find out which dragon king will be next. And also to find out if the Dragons will win and bring back their loved clans. I don't think it looks good for Dragons on earth. They may need to find a new home and give up earth.

Recommended for romance readers who enjoy magic and love dragons.

Seriously this book rocks. I loved the storyline so much I also got it on audible so I could hear the dialog between all the characters in this book. The gypsy part of the book was well written and informative.

Sabina and her brother Camlo add a uniqueness to this story because of their gypsy gifts that slowly play out throughout the story. Their living style and how they get by in their dailylife is written with such realness that the reader will be transported to their home and they will want to look out over the mountains such as they do.

In this story Dragon Kings Vlad and Roman are both key characters though the main character is Roman. The closeness of these two Dragon Kings is obvious in the interactions and respect they have for each other. The reader will discover more about the Others in this book and the complexity of what was done to Vlad in their dastardly plans put in place long ago to effect the Dragon Kings.

The plot is beautifully executed with great detail allowing the reader to escape into another world.

Roman, a Dragon King honor-bound to protect humanity feels doubly-bound to help his fellow dragon-shifter friend Vlad recover his missing sword. This sword, lost eons ago, was the key to opening a realm to which the dragons of yore fled when humanity took over too much of Earth. Each time Vlad has awoken from enchanted sleep to find his sword he's ended up on a rampage that has killed masses of people, so Roman's not about to let Vlad go off to his homeland of the Carpathiam Mountains without backup.

Upon landing in his native soil, Vlad and Roman encounter Sabina and her seemingly-disabled brother, Camlo, who each have a touch of Romani (gypsy) magic in their blood. Sabina's gran had been a strong matriarch and she passed the family history to Sabina at young age--warning her to guard their secrets. When Vlad touches Camlo, who has had visions of Vlad's return, Vlad is knocked out, and it's then they begin the search through memory and vision to recover the hidden sword.

Roman seems keen to assist, but he knows they need more help--so he reaches out for Fae and Druid assistance as the path leads them into some of the most harsh landscape Roman's homeland of Iceland. The travel only gets worse, hampered by ancient magic aimed to thwart the seekers--but it yields important clues about those who've been plaguing the Dragon Kings, of late. Sabina is a fated mate of Roman--and their ordeals only drive them closer--especially when it's clear that Camlo's magic is necessary to save them all.

As part of the overarching series, this book give the reader insight into "the Others" a Druid (or anti-Druid) interference that seems to extend back to when Vlad's sword was originally stolen--and Sabina's sacred family history is critical to finding out the hows and whys of it. Sabina knows about the dragons of yore, and she's kinda thrilled by the intense chemistry she feels with Roman. Roman's been adrift a long time, and he's glad to have met his match. Dear Camlo is so sweet and an interesting character. The journey to the center of magic in Roman's own mountain brings him near to death at least once, but help from Ulrik and others brings him back from the brink.

The resolution reunites Vlad and his sword, but the struggle doesn't end for that Dragon King. Meanwhile, Roman and Sabina do what is necessary to make their love survive--and take care of Camlo, in the process. It's a grand adventure, and I liked the interwoven storylines--bringing Ulrik and his mate into the action was nice, as I haven't had a lot of experience with Ulrik being a good guy. The love story is a little rushed, due to all the action, but it wasn't too compressed. They seem to spend an ice age half-buried in the tunnels, and that has the effect of decreasing one's emotional timetable.

It was a soul-deep longing, one that got into his bones and settled there, sending whispers of desire through him. The need, the hunger, grew tenfold with every breath . . . As a Dragon King, Roman is sworn to protect all mortals-even though they no longer believe in dragons. But deep in the Carpathian Mountains, he discovers a beautiful and mysterious gypsy who possesses the power to see into his very soul. To reignite the fire in his heart. And to help him find the long-lost sword that could save the dragons forever . . . Sabina remembers the stories her grandmother told her. Legends of dragons and kings, fire and ice. And she's never forgotten the dark prophecy that filled her ancestors with fear-a fate they tried to prevent by stealing a Dragon King's sword. Sabina knows that helping Roman is dangerous. He is a dragon betrayed, and more powerful than any man. He could destroy her in a single fiery embrace. But how can she resist the longing in his eyes-or the feelings in her heart-when their destinies are bound by desire? Contains mature themes.

Really interesting series and I love the world for the dragon shifters, etc. the author has created. There is a bit too much filler at times, but overall, entertaining. Each book feature a different main couple, but there's a lot of extra storyline going on that has carried over from the other books in this series and other series by Grant; lots of connecting parts going on.

I'm fairly new to Grant's books; I've only read a couple of this series and a few from the Reaper series, but I'm already tired of the whole who's Rhi dragon thing, so I hope that's wrapped up soon. Unfortunately, it's been going on since the beginning of the series, so my hopes aren't high. It seems to be leaning a certain way, so can we just get on with it already.

In Dragonfire, we have Roman, dragon shifter, and Sabina, gypsy, trying to help other dragon shifter, V, find his sword that was stolen from him ong ago. I liked the adventure of trying to find the sword and the magical elements. The romance is sweet with some spice, and I liked the connection between Roman and Sabina. Things do get a bit bogged down by all the other storylines, but overall, it's all entertaining.

Fun series!

Dragonfire would have been a quick read if you read the previous titles. The Characters were likable with the characters from the previous books making a showing. With the turning of the last page, I find I am excited to read the next book in the series. It’s a good thing if going by the list of dragons in this story we have a ton of books to look forward too.

Entertaining and dark. I very much enjoyed this book.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Remembering the childhood stories your grandmother told you were one thing. Seeing a real life dragon with light blue scales was another. Sabina would do anything to protect her brother so when he is called upon to help find a lost sword in Iceland she immediately agrees to go with them. Working together she becomes closer to Roman and they’re attraction to one another can it be denied.

Dragon King, Roman has a quest that Sabina has the knowledge to assist with. Enter the Dark King's world with these two as they journey . Story line guarantees that the pages keep turning.

Ebook from Netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.

This book should be read within the series as there’s a subplot that clearly runs throughout the series. This is actually the first book in the series that I have read, as much as loved it I did find part of the storyline quite hard to follow as I didn’t really understand how it all started. So, once I get the chance, I would like to have read the other books first before this one.

The characters were fantastic! The story begins with Roman and Vlad going on their journey to find Vlad’s long-lost sword and they come across Sabrina and her brother Camlo. A sword that can bring all the dragon’s home.

There was genuine chemistry between Roman and Sabrina and I loved it. I would have liked to know more about Camlo, I found him to be a really interesting character that didn’t get a lot of page time and I would have liked to know more. I really enjoyed the book as a whole even with the parts that I really didn’t get. I liked getting to know about the legendary dragon kings and a little bit about their lives. I really loved Roman’s character and his personality. The banter that Roman and Vlad have between them and the other dragons were so much fun, and I would like to have seen a bit more of that. It was an overall fun read and I would like to have read more in these series. For those of you who have read it or will read it, let me know your thoughts below.
