Wow! So much happened in this book and it felt like the storyline is moving forward. I hope this series continues to move a bit faster, like this one.
Roman and Sabina's chemistry was undeniable, instantly! I adored Sabina's brother and that this whole story included him. It was refreshing! Also getting a glimpse into V's story was amazing. I loved all of the twists and turns, as well as all the new and old characters that played a part of Dragonfire. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

Oh how I love this series by Donna Grant.  Dragons have always been mysterious. I loved watching a cartoon about one as a child. So it doesn't surprise me that I would enjoy reading about them now, as an adult.

This particular edition focuses on Roman and Sabina.  Sabina is a Seer, if you will.  Her family roam Europe as Gypsy's because staying in one place is too dangerous for them. The beginning of the novel has Sabina's Gran telling her about dragons and her place to protect a secret.

The dragons are looking for a sword that was stolen from one (Vlad) of the two many eons ago.  Roman is a friend of Vlad's and is helping him find the sword. His attraction to Sabina is noted right away. Though he tries to ignore it since that isn't what he's on a mission to find.

This story is pretty bumpy in it's findings.  There's a lot going on with the dragons and the involvement of Sabina and her family. The author doesn't disappoint in her writing and I loved how she incorporated the other paranormal's into the story to help figure out what's happening to the dragons and why. It's one of the many reasons I enjoy reading this series.  I hope you do too!

Dragonfire by Donna Grant
Dark Kings #14

The first book I read in this paranormal fantasy world was in the Reapers series and I have managed to read all of them except the second. I came into the Dark Kings series on book 10 and missed the book that preceded this one. I have to say that though it was an exciting action-packed thrilling read I did have times I got bogged down in wondering who some of the characters were from what seems to be a “world” I am not totally conversant with. That said, I wouldn’t mind one day starting at the beginning and reading through the books in order.

In this book we hear of many characters in the realm(s) but the main focus is on finding dragon kind Vlad’s sword. Roman, another dragon king, is going along with him to search for the sword that has been missing for uncountable years and is so necessary to the dragons.

While in Romania they come across Sabina and her brother who are much needed on their sword-quest. They travel, encounter magic, have problems to overcome and eventually manage to accomplish what they set out to do…although at the end of the book there are still many loose threads to be dealt with before the series can be completed.

For some reason this book did not hold my attention like some in the past have. I am not sure why but think it has to do with not having read enough in this specific sub-series to keep all the characters from all the various groups 100% straight.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I like to read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Dragonfire was very enjoyable. Plus that cover is just beyond amazing.

Sabina has known about the Dragon Kings since she was a younger girl traveling with her family. When she heard the legend she never expected to meet a Dragon King. Then while taking care of her brother two show up at her door. When they tell her who they are she knows that she must do everything in her power to help them.

Roman's been alive a long time. After the latest attack on the other dragons, Roman knows how important it is to find his friend Vlad's sword. He didn't expect all the problems that would come up with finding the sword, or Sabina.

I did enjoy this story. I enjoyed the mystery around the story. I did find some of the constant mystery a little tiresome since there weren't any answers to be had.

Dragon Kings V and Roman are on a quest to find V's stolen sword. Due to V's amnesia of the incident, they travel to V's territory hoping to find clues when they arrive. The duo meets Camlo and Sabina while on their search. V and Roman discover that the brother and sister, who are descendants of the clan V protected, have information relating to V's curse and his lost weapon. V and Camlo work together to uncover V's memories, while Roman and Sabina, the couple of the story, descend inside a mountain for V's sword.

The path to retrieve the Dragon King sword was tense, and fast paced. At the climax of the story, I was bouncing in my seat. Roman's clever Dragon power lends to his artistic tendencies. Sabina's creativity, although different in expression than Roman's, gives the couple a common interest. Roman's dominance induces fantastic desire during their intimacies. The spark between the pair is potent, which is a common thing with Donna Grant novels.

I make it no secret that I am a huge fan of the Dark World series. The subplots continue to grab my attention. At this point, the recurring characters are as much of a focus for me as the main couples are. Dragonfire is the first novel since Ulrik's redemption. He played a minor, but crucial, part here. I believe his presence will be game-changing, especially for Con. I see Con reaching his breaking point, and that could be a very good, or a very bad thing.

Every Dark King book is a comfort, and a curse, all rolled into one. There is an overwhelming sense that resolution is just around the corner, and I am eager for the good versus evil showdown. But at the same time, I do not want them to end. Dragonfire by Donna Grant was given to me by Saint Martin's Press, through NetGalley, for my honest opinion.

Sabina and Camlo were interesting, well-formed characters. Roman seemed somewhat generic, and his love story with Sabina was about as expected. I'm still not gripped by the whole light fae/dark fae over-arching series plotlines.

This story transports you to a different time and realm. Sabina and Roman are a formidable pair when they pit their minds to it.

A life living on a farm, making jewelry and protecting her mentally challenged brother is what keep her busy. He's immortal and has powerful magic and is fighting to protect his fellow dragons from their enemies. A chance meeting on a mountain brings them together to help another dragon to find his sword. Can they fall in love, find a sword and maybe not make a prophecy come true?

Sabina likes her secluded life with her mentally challenged brother. She's very protective of Camlo because of the way people have treated him. He has a special gift with animals. Sabina supports them by making jewelry and selling it over the internet. She has even set up a safety net in case something would happen to her. When one night she wakes up and goes looking for Camlo she finds him watching the night sky and giving her a cryptic message of their coming. Roman's gift being a dragon is to shape metal. He is to go with his friend V to look for the other dragon's sword that was stolen hundreds of years ago. They've tracked the sword to Romania and the mountains around Sabina lives. They come and start searching, and a few days in run into Camlo out in the forest and witness Camlo's interaction with a bear. As they converse with Camlo, Sabina arrives to protect her brother. When Camlo and V touch and it knocks V out they head back to Sabina farm until he recovers. As they wait, Roman and Sabina get to know each other a little. She tells him all about her self and he's closed mouthed about his life. Roman finally reveals he's a dragon and immortal. Sabina knows she shouldn't believe him but her Romani blood tells her other wise. V recovers and the four of them head out to Iceland where Sabina's ancestors have hidden his sword. Sabina can't go because of her fear of heights but thanks to Roman's magic she sleeps through the trip. They find a cave to stay in until a storm blows over. When Sabina and Camlo have to go to the bathroom another part of the cave is found with information that has and supposedly will come true. They realize that druids and fae have been working together against the Dragon Kings. They try not to make the prophecy come true. Sabina offers herself to help V get more memories and travels back in time. Roman and Sabina go to look for V's sword. They start a physical relationship. As they continue on their journey things get difficult because of the magic their enemy has put in place. Sabina and Roman are separated and must proceed alone. They end up in a unique cavern and must fight strong magic to accomplish their goal and get help. Sabina takes a fall and Roman saves her but at a cost to himself. V & another Dragon King must fight him to protect Sabina, who's got to retrieve the sword. She succeeds only to stab Roman with the sword protecting herself. They must get Roman to remember so he can defeat the enemy's magic. They must leave in a hurry when the mountain starts to erupt. They head back to Dragean where all the Dragon Kings live. Arrangements are made for a mating ceremony and celebration. Sabina and Camlo come to live with the Dragon Kings. Sabina is successful living there. Roman has a surprise for her. The light fae queen is frustrated with a book that was found and in love with the King of Dragon Kings. He's in love with a banished light fae who's the obsession of the dark fae king. Dragon Kings have just found out about more immortal beings. Two distant druids from this realm are pleased with how things are progressing.

Dragonfire is a heart pounding read. Personally I was a little confused by how some of the other characters were involved with the Dragon Kings, but that is probably because I've only read on other of the books in Donna Grant's series and the books I've read haven't been the beginnings of the series but the current books in both series. I enjoying this and the other book. They can stand alone as well. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Can't wait to see if the Dragon Kings and their allies can defeat their common enemy.

A beautiful and mysterious gypsy possesses the power to see into Roman’s very soul in this magnificently powerful and mesmerizing new Dragon King novel. Roman and Sabina are two very bold and convincing characters that burn with magnetic chemistry and reaches deep into the readers very imagination and brings forth gripping emotions and wonderful shivers. Their romance is one that spans the realms as they embark on a dangerous journey in order to find the Vlad’s long lost sword that could save the dragons forever.

Exhilarating suspense and delicious shivers throughout this fast paced plot full of flying dragon and treacherous traps are sprung along with strength, courage and daring keep readers turning the pages and grasping for every last detail. Twist and turns keeps readers guessing as the Dragons discover that is way more to their enemy than they ever could have guessed and that events were set in motion eons before. There is no way for readers to resist falling in love with the sexy, powerful Dragon Kings and their mates because the author makes them so lifelike and the series itself is a gripping, pulse pounding world that readers never want to leave because it stirs the soul and sets the imagination on fire.

I love Donna Grant’s Dark Kings world. With each book, I’m wanting to see and know more and more. Fourteen books in and there are still questions we have and want answered. Dragonfire answered some but will leaving you wanting more answers.

I always enjoy revisiting previous characters in a series and this installment was no different. I did enjoy Roman and Sabina’s romance. I am very much looking forward to reading more Dark Kings.

This world is a contuining one as the series continue. For me I felt this worked better if i read it as a standalone and didn't try to decipher the other characters mysteries, because really they have been oing on for a bit and we are no closer to the answers. Hence why i just read this for the romance slow burner it was between Sabina and Roman. Roman is out helping his fellow dragon kin V, try to find his mysterious sword which was taken centries ago, when they meet Sabina and her brother, her brother first who seem to have a mysterious connection and a way to clear V's mind to get answers. Sabina is protective of her brother, and she remembers the story of the dragon/vampire told by her grandmother so many years ago. Will she give in to the urge to hep these men or protect herself?

A good read if a bit slow in places, and yes if you have been following the series just more padding without answers.

The Dark Kings series is one I've been following for awhile now and I love those dragons. I was seriously curious as to what we were going to focus on as a story arc now that Ulrick's story had been told. We still have the Fae, led by Balladyn causing chaos. However, Balladyn seems to be more focused on Rhi. We also have the Light Queen, Usaeil. She's definitely a problem for the Kings now. But the big storyline is the wooden dragon found by Dmitri and the spell it is wrapped in that is steeped in both Druid and Fae magic.

Vlad has been looking for his sword every time he wakes. It is his main focus. Roman decides he is going to make the trip to Vlad's homeland and help V look for it. There they meet Sabina and her brother who both happen to be descendants of gypsies from the area. There was very little preamble with the Kings pretending to be human. They were pretty much outed right away, and Sabina and her brother already knew about Dragon Kings so that part was easy.

Ironically, as the story unfolds, the path of the sword takes them to Iceland, Roman's homeland. However, their path has been pre-destined. There are major forces at work. V finds that he is getting better along the way, thanks to Camlo, but that doesn't mean the magic is gone. It just changes targets.

I really enjoyed the characters in Dragonfire. Sabina was a great heroine. She was human with great determination and an instant attraction to Roman. This kind of surprised me because knowing this book was about V's sword, I thought the love story would be V's. I think that the romance between Roman and Sabina was sweet. Don't get me wrong, the sex scene was hot. But the romance itself was good.

The path to the sword kind of reminded me of an Indiana Jones adventure. The trek through the tunnels for Roman and Sabina, with it's trials and tricks had me on my toes. Sabina comes to a point where she has to face her greatest fear for her love. I have a same fear and I could completely understand how much it took for her to do what she did. Also, the completion of one of the prophesies was surprising for me because I didn't anticipate it going the way it did.

There was one issue I had that maybe other readers of this series can help me with. I've never seen the other Dragon Kings use magic the way that Roman and V did. Creating balls of light, magically dressing themselves, etc. In previous books, someone has always been handy with a pair of jeans for shifting, but V and Roman were both able to dress themselves. For some reason, that drove me nuts. They did it a couple of times, but then another situation had one King providing jeans for another. It was kind of confusing for me. I knew each King had a power or certain magic, but what the Kings were doing in Dragonfire was beyond just their specific power. So, the consistency with the previous books had me somewhat confused.

In Dragonfire, we learn bit by bit how powerful this force of the Fae & Druid (Others) power is. We even get treated to a bit of an introduction to the Others so we can start to put names to the enemy. Also, the hope that finding V's sword brings to the Kings appears to have a problem. AND the next pairing gets introduced I think. It left openings for the next book with the only completion being the HEA. I was definitely left wanting more. No cliffhangers, just a desire to continue on with each the storylines.

Despite having some consistency issues, I really enjoyed the adventure our characters had. I'm left fearful for the kings and anxious about the progression of all the possible story lines. I'm also still DYING to know... WHO IS RHI'S KING??

This was my first book in this series and, indeed, the first book by this author. I now discover that I have come in at book 14 which is probably not the best place to start I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I have always liked books about dragons since I started reading them as a young teen and this one does not disappoint. It follows the 'usual' quest type story but it is a little different than most I have read being placed in current day albeit with other worlds and much returning to the past. However, I was a little disappointed that it raised more questions than it answered and clearly is but an episode in a serial. I should like to read the earlier books and will probably do so I would recommend starting earlier than this one.

Legends and events foretold collide when Roman happens across the beautiful gypsy, Sabina, and her brother. Powers are maneuvering everyone like pieces on a chessboard and it'll take some creative thinking and pure determination to get through the trials set before them. Along the way they'll find the fire of passion in one another, soothing a deep ache and yearning that neither were anticipating. Events are leading them all to a confrontation like no other and it'll take all of their gifts to sort out their path and embrace the courage to travel it.

Roman is soulful, a thinker, and very controlled. He also feels very deeply. His life has tossed him from abandonment to loss and back again and the Others aren't through with him. I liked his quiet manner, his dislike for lying and misleading, and his caring concern for Sabina and her brother. There's an immediate feeling I get when I "met" him that he needed to be wrapped up in a big hug and never let go. Roman is a strong and supportive partner to anyone he's working with and the beginning of him and Sabina is no exception.

Sabina may have neglected her gift because of the way she grew up but she never lost her respect for or belief in her heritage and gifts. I enjoyed how smart, determined, and strong she was. Her forthright honesty was probably my favorite thing about her. She never felt the need to deceive for any purpose and it often led to humorous or passionate moments that lightened the overall mood of those scenes. She is really an ideal partner for any of the Dragon Kings but it's the way she sees into Roman and knows on a basic level that she was meant for him. While it takes a bit for her to recognize that, she never shies away from that knowledge once she's aware of it.

Puzzle pieces are being shifted into place and more are being revealed and each is more pivotal than the last. The story is getting more and more exciting, heading for a big confrontation and I find myself breathing faster, reading faster, and speculating more and more about what will happen next, whose mate will be the catalyst for the "final" maneuver that brings about a possible war... There's so much to enjoy about this series and this book in particular embodies everything that's awesome about it.

Dragonfire is the fourteenth book in the Dark Kings series. These books are best read in order and not as stand-alone books as the series arcs and characters from previous books make appearances. I'm not going to lie. I haven't read all of the books in the series so I do feel I am missing some things when I read this one. I am a huge fan of dragon shifters so this is one of those series that I want to go back to the beginning and read those I missed, in order, because this series is just so good. Honestly, I was hooked from the first chapter but did find myself faltering a little in this one.

Sabina grows up traveling with her family from town to town, the life of the Romani tribe, ever a nomad. But their purpose is much more than that. An ancestor possessing the power of sight had a vision of the Dragon King slaughtering their village and the only way to stop it was to steal his sword and keep it hidden. Sabina also possesses the power of sight while her brother possesses the ability to communicate from animals. I seriously loved these characters so much that anytime chapters would switch to other characters, I wanted it to go back to them.

The story follows Roman and V trying to find V's sword, when they come across Sabina and her brother, who may hold the answers to their quest. The romance between Roman and Sabina seems sort of tame compared to other previous books as the story is more about them finding the sword and the romance is sort of in the background. We get a lot of snippets of other characters like Rhi whose story is sort of up in the air. I did want more focus on Sabina and Roman though because the romance did feel light but I'm still enjoying the series and can't wait to read more.

While I liked this I think I would have liked it more if I had have read the prior books in the series. It had the suspense, romance & sexiness that make a paranormal book interesting!

I literally read this book in one day!!

I was waiting for it loooong time and I really love it.

The way Donna describe the characters is the best. They are unique, and you never are going to forget them. I am in love with this book.

The book involves you since the first page until the last page, it is a book that you can read really fast, when I realize I was in the last page already.

I hope everyone can read this book. And by the way, where I can find one Roman? I need it in my life, he is actually now one of my boyfriends.

DRAGONFIRE is the fourteenth full-length instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult DARK KINGS paranormal/fantasy romance series focusing on the Dragon Kings and the women they love. This is Light Blue Dragon King Roman, and jewellery maker /Romani gypsy Sabina Gabor. DRAGONFIRE should not be read as a stand alone as the current story lines continue to follow an ongoing series arc.

SOME BACKGROUND: The DARK KINGS is a spinoff from Donna Grant’s DARK WARRIOR series which in turn is a spin off from Donna’s DARK SWORD series- all set in the Highlands of Scotland. The Dark Fae and their King Taraeth, along with the Silver Dragon Mikkel have declared war on the Dragon Kings by exposing the dragon’s existence to humankind. The last wars between man and the world of the paranormal saw a great loss of life on all sides but someone or something is determined to push the Dragons back into another war: Queen Usaeil of the Light Fae has set her sights on claiming King Constantine as her mate, and the Dark Fae want the Dragon’s hidden weapon in order to rule Scotland and the rest of the world. With the recent introduction of the Fae executioners known as the Reapers, the number of interconnected series continues to expand.

Told from several third person perspectives including Sabina and Roman, DRAGONFIRE follows Light Blue Dragon King Roman, and Dragon King Vlad aka V, as they go in search of Vlad’s missing sword, stolen thousands of year earlier while V slept in the Carpathian Mountains. Drawn to Romania in search of Vlad’s past, Roman will come face to face with his future-Romani gypsy and jewellery designer Sabina Gabor. What ensues is the slow building relationship between Roman and Sabina, and the fall-out as their search for the sword reveals past events linking Sabina’s family and Vlad, and the powerful magic meant to destroy them all.

DRAGONFIRE is a detailed and revealing story of magic, betrayal, vengeance and hope. With each instalment Donna Grant reveals a little more backstory and slowly exposes the conspiracy surrounding the fate of the Dragons, and the potential for war with the Fae, the Druids, and mankind. The gradual but deliberately slow, evolving series continues to expand, introducing new players and potential dangers as it meanders numerous paths taking the reader along for the ride. Light Fae Rhi continues to lament the rejection of the Dragon King she will always love; and Balladyn, now King of the Dark Fae, is determined to make Rhi his queen.

The Dark King series matures and expands with each subsequent addition. For followers of the series Ulrik and Con have made amends forcing the series to venture into another direction as the Dragon Kings face an old enemy that is determined to control them all. The romance takes a back seat to the increasing prospect of another Fae/Dragon war-a war of which the world may not survive.

Dragonfire by Donna Grant is a suspenseful adventure with just enough romance, angst, and mystery all wrapped up in a pair of breathtaking dragons wings. The vivid details pull you into the story. I am in awe. This is just magic.

Sabina and her younger brother Camlo are gypsy descendants. They each have a gift that they have hidden from the world. Sabina has been warned since childhood about the Dragon Kings wanting to take out her kind and because of this, she has kept a low profile. Until Vlad and Roman show up.

Roman and Vlad are the two main Dragon Kings in this book and are just sinfully delicious. Vlad's flippant sense of humor had me laughing out loud several times and Roman, oh Roman, he will just melt your heart. These two are on a quest looking for Vlads sword that was stolen years ago and they stumble upon Camlo in the forest. Some reason there is a pull to Camlo and Sabina but they cannot figure out what or why.

The first book I have read by Donna Grant and I am a FAN FOR LIFE! I just devoured Dragonfire and I wanted to cry!! I did not want it to end, THANK goodness this is a series and I am going to start from the beginning. I am just blown away, where has Donna Grant been all my life? I have been in the wrong cave! I completely geeked out with this book. You had me at Carpathian Mountains, Romania, Ms. Grant.
