Sabina was a gypsy, but after the death of her father her mother took her to live in a village. Remarried, and with a step father and new half brother Sabina's live was good. After losing both parents, it was just her and her brother on the farm. He is kind but childlike, and can speak with animals. In steps the dragon kings of Vlad and Roman, as they are searching for Vlad's sword that was stolen years ago. Turns out it was by Sabina's ancestors, and her and her brother are destined to help. Good thing too, as sexy Roman and Sabina have a lot of sparks and chemistry. And off they head to Iceland, the land of fire and ice, and the location of the hidden sword. Good story, and although it would help to read others in the series it is strong enough without it. Good story and good author and one I highly recommend.

I’m not sure I have the patience for more colours…

***3.5 Stars***

I enjoyed Dragonfire. But, I can’t help but feel like this series is being DRAGGGGGGGED out. I got to the 95% mark and this happened…

Yellow, emerald green, red, amber, bronze, deep blue, black, jade green, burnt orange, white, claret, turquoise, dark purple, ivory, gray, hunter green, steel, teal, orange, and many others that she couldn’t make out in the night.

But there was no mistaking the gold dragon.

OK, that’s 21 (TWENTY-ONE) colours listed, and that’s not even including Ulrik, V and Roman’s dragons. Ummm…we’re only at #14!! And, let’s not forget “many others that she couldn’t make out in the night”. Bloody Hell!! How many more stories before we even get to see Con and Rhi getting back together.

THEY BETTER BE GETTING BACK TOGETHER!!!!

Mind you, I would want Con to grovel BIG TIME!! He hurt Rhi and we’ve all had to suffer through his separation from her. But, then again, Con has suffered a wee bit too. He is under a lot of pressure to save the world. But, AGAIN, he brings on a lot of suffering because he’s a stubborny nincompoopy “King of the Kings” Dragon King. Con, GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR BUTT AND JUST BEG HER TO FORGIVE YOU!!

Anyways, I really did enjoy Dragonfire and felt that the story flowed well, the characters were interesting and the love story…was…OK…ish. I didn’t really get that whole overwhelming mating ZIP, BAM, BOOM, CRASH…feeling. It was almost disappointing how much it lacked in intensity. These are magical characters and their attraction, need and connection should have jumped off the pages. I even wondered a couple of times whether this was Sabina and Roman’s story or Sabina and V’s story.

It just felt that the love story was added in because it had to be not because these characters needed to be together. Sure, I still got a kick out of catching up with some of the previous characters and enjoyed having another puzzle piece added, I just felt like this game needs to finish. I want a new game to start.

I’m sure Donna Grant has grand plans for the Dark Kings series, and maybe we’ll see more of those colours come to life. I just don’t know if I have the patience to wait for it all to play out. Heaven forbid, I may even be tempted to skip a few, cross my fingers and hope for the best (that I’ll still be able to follow along), and come back for Con (and hopefully Rhi).

I received an ARC from Netgalley free in exchange for an honest review. I had never heard of this author or this series before and didn’t realize it was a series. Not entirely a true stand alone because there was a whole world that I didn’t entirely understand since I have not read the other books. There were several plot lines that discussed items that obviously occurred in other books.

As for this story, I enjoyed learning about the world and Dragon King’s, plus the idea of magic and the Romani. Camlo was a delight and Sabina was an easy person to like. However, the overall story with Sabina and Roman seemed very short and took a backseat to V’s sword and all the other plot lines.

Donna Grant is an autobuy for me. I truly love all of her books!! After Torched - this book had a lot to live up to. Especially with some of the big reveals in the related Reaper story! The arc of the Dragon Kings story is changing and evolving - a lot of this book was spent on refocusing on a new(ish) enemy and moving the overall arc forward. But the story itself was still great and action packed. The love story almost functioned like a novella within the book as a whole - instead of being the focus.

Roman's back story was just so sad. It really brought home the loss all the dragon kings have experienced. Although its mentioned in every book - with this one you could truly feel how much the loss had weighed on Roman.

I can't wait to read V's story!

ARC kindly provided by netgalley - but opinion is my own.

Thanks Donna Grant for continuing these stories!!

This book gave me the chills, feels, and I got to be on a mission too, understanding the Dragon Kings, their past and how they are connected to other magical beings.
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC.

This is book 14 in the Dark Kings series and you absolutely have to read the books before this one in order to understand the bigger story ARC that this series has been taking us on. This one is about Roman and Sabina. Roman has been tasked with helping V find his sword, and he thinks he has a starting place on where they should start searching. But during their search he encounters a gypsy, Sabina, who may be able to help them not only find the sword but tell them who took it to begin with. Sabina remembers the stories that her grandmother told her as a child along with a prophecy. But after so long she isn't sure she believes them to be true, and sticks with taking care of her brother and ignoring her gypsy heritage. But when she and her brother come across Roman and V in the mountains near their home, she finds out just how much truth there are to the stories. And how much her life with change now that she knows the truth.

I loved this one! From the start I was hooked on Sabina and her brother is the sweetest soul! I love how he was with not only animals but with V and Roman as well. Sabina is a beautiful soul who believes in doing the right thing, even if that means that something horrible may happen to her. And the way she steps up is an awesome thing. Roman is definitely one those kick butt kings but with a sweet side. And I love how he treats not only Sabina but her brother. I also loved the way we get to see more about V and what may be happening on a whole with the kings and with Rhi. This series is definitely taking us on a voyage but honestly I can't wait to see what else is in store!

Science Fiction and Donna Grant is a perfect match. She writes amazing stories of which Dragonfire is the 14th in the Dark Kings series. Lots of amazing couples have fallen in love on her pages. That is the only down side is keeping them all straight. But I love the dragon tales the best! King Roman is on a mission to find a stolen sword and stumbles onto a gypsy and her brother. Lots of unique ideas in this one. Pick up Dragonfire and soar in the sky with it. "A copy of this book was provided by St. Martin's Press via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

Really good! This paranormal romance is definitely worth getting. I loved the characters and story. This was fast paced and full of sexy dragons and lot of action. I've been away from this authors books for a while but I'm glad to be back to reading them. This was definitely a great book!

Roman is one of the Dragon Kings who is attempting to help j=his friend find his sword that was stolen centuries ago. Sabina remembers the stories about the Dragon Kings that have been told to every generation but, she never thought much of them until Roman and Z. appear at her home the day after her brother drug her outside in the middle of the night to tell her "they" were coming.
There's something in the air that pulls Sabina and Roman together. Something that neither of them is sure they want but, with each strange occurence, they are pulled closer and closer together.
Roman has trouble dealing with the fact that Sabina apparently has as many gifts as he does, if not more! He's the man. He's supposed to protect her, right?
This continuation of the series is just as powerful, steamy, fascinating and, fast-paced as the rest and, I love reading about these fascinating creatures and, their lives!

This book grabbed me from the beginning, I absolutely love the Dragon Kings (well, all of Donna Grant's books actually!), and devour them as soon as they come out. Roman and Sabina were wonderful together. I can't wait for the next book!

3.5 stars for the relationship as it took a backseat in this 14th Dark Kings novel. 4 stars for the quest and the details surrounding what’s coming.

Dragonfire takes place outside of Scotland as we follow Roman and V on the quest to find V’s sword. A sword that will bring all the dragons home. As they travel through the Carpathian Mountains they come upon a man who can speak to animals and his older sister. Sabina has been protecting and caring for her brother, Camlo, since the death of her parents. Aside from his gift with animals, he has a mental disability and can’t fully care for himself. Sabina descends from a Romani family and has the gift of sight. V and Roman soon realize the siblings may be able to help V regain his memories of when his sword was taken from him.

Sabina and Camlo are immediately swept up in the search for the sword and join the Dragon Kings to Roman’s homeland, Iceland. As they journey into a cave, they realize that magic is at work. There are drawings that show events in the past and predictions of the future.

What I liked about the book is that we get more information about who may be against the Dragon Kings and some foreshadowing regarding Rhi. But more information isn’t necessarily answers. Just more pieces of the puzzle that we have to wait to figure out. I also liked that we got more of V (guessing his novel is next) and Ulrik was a prominent secondary character.

I wish that Roman and Sabina had more of a spark. As Roman is the Dragon who rules over the land of Fire and Ice, I found it ironic that there wasn’t more passion between them.

As a young girl, Sabina’s grandmother told her an ancient story of dragons who could change to human form. There were also dragon kings. An ancestor foresaw the local dragon king slaughtering their village, and the family made a plan to steal his weapon, a sword. Fearing his wrath, the Romani family fled the village and have wandered the mountains ever since. Her grandmother told her the dragon king will come back, but he must never find them or the sword. But Sabina questions everything, including this story. Her grandmother then told her the Dragon King’s name was Vlad.

Roman, king of the light blue dragons, convinces V, king of the copper dragons, that he will help him find his sword. Con, the King of Dragon Kings, has purposely kept V asleep in the mountain of Dreagan in Scotland for centuries. Con woke V because in the upcoming battle against evil forces facing them, all dragons will be needed. Yet V’s memory since the attack where his sword was stolen has been missing and searching for his sword and his memories has driven V to the edge of madness. The sword's recovery is vital to all Dragonkind. Since by Con’s order all dragons’ presence must be kept secret from humans, they are not allowed to fly when humans might see them. Roman conjures a huge storm, and he and V fly hidden by the massive storm to Romania, V’s home. They remained hidden from all but one person. Cambo, Sabia’s younger brother, sees them flying. Cambo is a large man with a child’s mind and a special talent for communication with animals.

Sabina Gabor has what her grandmother called ‘sight.’ She left her roaming gypsy family to find a safe place for Cambo to live with his animals. Others in the village near where they live make fun of him, but do not know the unique gift he possesses. Sabrina senses things others don’t, but despite her misgivings, Roman attracts her like no other man, and even learning he is a dragon doesn’t change that. She helps Roman and V learn another previously unrecognized enemy is in play with a magic powerful enough to control even a dragon king.

Like the other books in this series, tension from previous evil forces still flow through the narrative, and this story includes equally dangerous locations. Secret abound and some will be exposed, but more occur. New readers might be a little confused, but will soon understand the background and its nuances. Those familiar with the series will be glad for Roman to find a mate at last, if he lives through it.

I was given a chance to read this, and it was so confusing its book 14. and I have only read book 1 and that alone was confusing as all her series are interconnected and I don't have time to read everything in the authors back list, I was really into the dragons, if anything I think I would go back and read from where I started with this series.

Another great installment to an already fantastic series! I love books like these where the further we look into these stories, the more we unravel and the more we are sucked into the lives of these characters. Books like these will have you looking for magic in your every day life!

I love everything about dragons. I am sure that somewhere in the past I have read a book by Donna Grant about dragons but I just can't remember. I read this book as a standalone and struggled a bit with the parts where we read about Rhi, I have previously read one Reaper novel and that helped a bit. I really enjoyed reading this book and meeting all the characters. I wish it was possible to touch a dragon myself. I am going to read this series from the start to get a better understanding of what is going on in this world. I still give this book 4 stars because of the Dragons and their amazingness and the great story.

Thank you to St. Martins Paperbacks and NetGalley for the ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

There have been glimpses of the Dragon King V going back to Soul Scorched where he is first mentioned. V has been traveling to different places (Sweden, Belgium) in search of his sword. Now in Dragonfire we learn more about V and what happened to his missing sword. The focus of this novel is on locating that sword as well as the romantic ties between Roman (who is helping V in his quest) and Sabina. Developments in Dragonfire continue the mystery of the Druid and Fae magic that was first introduced in Firestorm with the discovery of the wooden dragon.

While some previous plotlines are barely touched upon (e.g., Balladyn, Usaeil), the focus of Dragonfire is on this newest threat to the Dragon Kings from a magic that seems stronger than Dragon magic, that of the Others who exist “somewhere in the universe. ..” We learn a little more about these Others who have been plotting against the Dragon Kings. It becomes obvious that theirs has been a plan of action put into place thousands of years ago.

Finally, there are a few additional elements that are now in play, specifically, the disappearance of Con’s “weapon,” the tie-in with Eoghan, Thea, and the Reapers, the growing darkness within Rhi, the ancient tome discovered by one of Usaeil’s Elders, and most importantly, problems with V’s sword.

The momentum is building with all these new challenges facing the Dragon Kings and their allies. I’m eagerly (and very impatiently) awaiting all upcoming books in this series (as well as the interrelated Reapers series) to learn the final outcome.

Three and a half
I remember when this series started how exciting and different it was but after a few books if honest I really started to want more answers. I know I wasn't alone in this but luckily the author brought out a series about Reapers that coincides with the action and storyline here so my interest was re-awakened once more.
So here we are at book fourteen and the enemy from the beginning of the series Ulrik has now returned to the Dragon Kings but still they have problems. One problem is V the legendary Dragon who unknowingly started the stories about Dracula and he's struggling against madness as centuries ago his precious sword was stolen from him. Now Roman has agreed to accompany V to his homeland hoping memories will return and with them the knowledge of just who stole the magical sword. Perhaps a Romany woman and her brother will give them answers but in doing so will it trigger a prophecy ?
As much as I liked discovering how the author intends to continue this series if honest I felt a little flat reading this. We know that there are both good and bad Fae and the Kings really still haven't quite overcome the problem of the Light Fae Queen but unfortunately I was frankly bemused by how this story played out. So much has happened and there are still questions I as a reader need answering so to go off on a completely different tangent made me feel let down.
This is a romance so obviously Roman and Sabina are tested but it's perhaps not as steamy as some previous relationships. I'm still wanting more from Rhi and yes I've got my own ideas about who broke her heart but if you are considering reading this for the romance then it does work as a standalone but as someone who has invested in the series it's not my favourite. Oh well perhaps the next Reapers book will further expand this world bringing me closer to the answers I'm dying to know.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy I requested and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I got so lucky to get an Arc. I was wondering if the author would be able to keep up the fire we all felt in Uricks book. And wow and wow. Roman sure doesn’t disappoint. Now I have more answers and more questions. As this series gets closer to the end. It’s going to be a wild ride and the author must really be on the top of her game. Once again an amazing read.
