Drawn to the Marquess by Bronwen Evans is a historical romance, focusing on the story of a lady of high society standing facing suspicion for murdering her husband. Penelope is not sad that her husband is dead, glad of it in fact, but she's no killer and wants her name cleared. She seeks out Lord Stephen Clevedon who served in the army and is known for his investigative skills, knowing she needs to find a way to persuade him to her cause. Lord Clevedon, however rich and entitled he is, is going blind so the only thing he wants in return is for her to allow him to seduce her, to enjoy her beauty before his affliction plunges him into a world without beauty of any kind. While he sets out to investigate who really killed her husband she allows him to seduce her, but along the way she finds that her resolve is crumbling and she is beginning to actually fall for him.

My first thoughts on this while just starting to get into the story was that it was kind of unbelievable. Penelope was supposed to be a strong and prim woman but she seemed to have no issue letting him flip her dress up in the carriage the first time they are together. "Wanton" to use her own word. She was definitely a head strong type of woman throughout this and didn't need a man to rescue her. Through most of the book, she seemed almost devious with her motives behind everything (with due cause). As for Stephen, he wasn't roguish/rakish enough for me. It seemed to take no time at all for him to become smitten, which in the end was cute.

The plot was my favorite part. What seemed to be a mystery really turned into a manhunt and for a completely different reason than setting out to find who killed Penelope's husband. It was very linear and made sense. I would have loved to see more subplots, more bumps for these two characters as their relationship grew, but in all it was a good read.

I have read read many of Ms. Even books and have not been disappointed with any of them and this one is no different as I enjoyed this book very much.
Ms. Even is definitely on my author watch list for new books.

Steven is losing his sight and is determined to see everything he can while he can see. When he is at an art auction he sees the lovely Lady Penelope and decides he wants her, but he will need to convince her that she wants him too. Penelope is determined to not be under another man's control after her marriage to an abusive and controlling deceased husband.

Penelope finds that she is a suspect in the death of her late husband and turns to Steven for help to clear her name. Steven, however has additional plans of his own while helping Penelope and making her his own and Penelope is determined to deny him. Fate has other plans for Penelope.

This is a good and very entertaining read. I received this book for an honest review from Netgalley.

Stephen Hornsby, the Marquess of Clevedon, is losing his eyesight. All he wants is to soak up all things beautiful before his vision goes. When he sees Lady Penelope Fisherton at an art auction, he adds her to the list. He just needs to convince her that she wants him too.

Penelope has no interest in men. She will never submit to another man, having lived under the abusive hand of her late husband. Unfortunately, Penelope needs a man's help since she is now a suspect in her deceased husband's murder. Penelope has it on good authority that Stephen is the man for the job, if she wants her name cleared. Penelope knows Stephen has a different agenda, but she is certain she can deny him. Right?!

I absolutely love author Bronwen Evans's novels. Her historical romances are always a highlight in my day. DRAWN TO THE MARQUESS is the second installment of her enthralling IMPERFECT LORDS series. Stephen is a scarred man. He has many secrets... one being that he is going blind. Penelope has some scars and secrets of her own. She enters reluctantly into an arrangement with Stephen, but it doesn't take long for Penelope's eyes to become opened. She learns that some men are good and can be trusted. Together, Penelope and Stephen have a chance at more, if they just learn how to let go. DRAWN TO THE MARQUESS is a wonderful read and could be read as a standalone. However, for the full effect, I recommend starting with book one in the IMPERFECT LORDS series, ADDICTED TO THE DUKE.

I didn't enjoy this storyline and it took me a long time to finish. First I thought the voyeuristic aspect was kind of creepy--even with the explanation of Stephen's vision condition. I personally don't enjoy the prim, damaged heroine who becomes a sex goddess overnight. The trafficking of young girls was weird and the idea that she might've killed her obviously creepy husband (obvious to everyone but her at least about his proclivity for young girls) was annoying--who cares if she killed the guy! Everyone knew he was a creep and that she couldn't possibly have know what he was up to. My biggest pet peeve in any story--stupid, I admit! Is when the male lead starts calling the woman he has known for all of 2 weeks by a nickname--in this case he refers to her as "Pen" so often at the end of the book I want to gag!

Loved this story. Its heartfelt and emotional. It keeps you entangled in the story from beginning to end. I know I couldn't put it down. As always Ms. Evan's delivers characters that are colorful and entertaining and leaving you feeling like a friend.

I absolutely loved Stephen and Penelope's story!!

Penelope needs Stephen's help and comes up with a plan to get him to comply. Unfortunately, her plan doesn't work and she is left with no leverage to get him to help her. He, however, tell her if he is given the opportunity to try and seduce her, he will help her with her problem. Having already been taken in by someone else that seduced her, Penelope believes that she has the strength to resist Stephen.

Stephen is going blind and likes nothing more than to spend him time taking in all the beautiful things around him. That includes beautiful woman and how they look when he is seducing them. When Penelope's plan to get him to help her didn't work, he came up with his own solution. He helps her and she gives him another memory to hold on to when he goes blind.

Neither one of them is looking for love, but they say it comes when you are not looking for it. Can each of them get past their problems to find their HEA that neither was looking for.

This latest addition to the Imperfect Lords series was perfect!! I loved both Stephen and Penelope. There were so many times throughout the story that my heart broke for each of them. This is definitely a must read for any historical romance lover!! I can't wait for the next book in the series!! It comes out in February!

If I could give 1/2 stars, I would! I'd give this one a 3.5!
This was my first book by Bronwen Evans and I enjoyed it!
It was a fast read and I enjoyed the storyline. I was curious what was going to happen next. Were somethings predictable, of course, but in the end this was an enjoyable story that focused on two broken characters...or rather two characters that thought of themselves as broken.
My one complaint was the romance felt slow burn and then all of a sudden it pounced. In one swoop there were fireworks and love and happily ever after. No slow realization as to their feelings and it all just felt so rushed.
I would definitely give another book in this series a shot though because like I've said..I did enjoy this book and it was a super fast read!
I received an ARC (Thank you!) of this book in exchange for an unbiased honest review.

Penelope is one fierce strong independent woman. Stephen is one pigheaded complicated man. They have an amazing chemistry and super strong connection. Penelope has some secrets. Stephen has his one secrets. They both aren’t looking for love but they sure know what to do to make things work. Loved the story.

A heartbreaking but very sweet story of an illness that make most withdraw (as is the case with Stephen). The love that blossoms between the two characters is genuine. Penelope’s tenderness is so very well written that Stephen cannot resist and passion soon flares. There is a bit of intrigue that teaches Stephen he does not need to suffer by himself. It was great to see Alex and Hestia again. The epilogue is amazing.

I was interested in the portrayal of disability in a historical but early chapters proved it was not going to be thoughtfully handled. Very disappointing.

This was a first time read for me by Bronwen Evans and as such, she has a well-written novel with the romance I was seeking. It doesn’t hurt to have a handsome man on the book cover to draw you in as a reader.

I also liked the fact that Stephen and Penelope are “damaged goods” based on the unfortunate circumstances that life has thrown at them. Needing each other, they work together to overcome the thing that has threaten to move them forward…which is fear.

The story is filled with secrets - the Marquess eyesight condition that could potentially leave him blind and helpless, and the hush hush whispers related to Penelope’s husband’s death. Both major characters have sworn never to marry again because of their secrets but somehow the two are thrown together resulting in a lustful, passionate love affair.

The plot and action were great and had its share of intrigue, twists and underlying event that may not go over well with some readers. I loved the banter that strengthen the attraction between Stephen and Penelope. I did like how the story was written to show that Stephen never let his failing eyes make him appear weak and Penelope’s horrible past leaving her as a strong and determined woman.

What was disappointing was the quid pro quo undertone…in order to help her she would have to be seduced by him. That reduced his character a little for me although it wasn’t blatantly put in the story by the author. In addition, I love a good steamy sex scene while reading and thought that the intimacy was a bit overkill and unfeeling because some scenes did not show the tenderness that I thought should be an intricate part of lovemaking.

4-Stars......Overall, it was an enjoyable historical romance that I had a hard time putting down until I got to the end. Will I read more from this author...a definitely yes. I recommend this book to historical readers who enjoy steamy love scenes, a bit of mystery and a HEA.

. Bronwen has written another great book. Stephen and Penelope have both face heartship in their lives and never want to have a relationship. But pen is in danger and Stephen comes to the rescue. Together they make each other trust and love and see what they have been missing.

I received this book through NetGalley for my review.

The book is okay but left me feeling as if I had read a paper for school. I found several times where I had to go back and start reading the incident over to make sure I understood (the maid is in the carriage with them, but then they start doing wicked things and it never mentions her again). I read a lot of love stories and this one is not one I will remember or read again.

A wonderful story filled with emotion and desire. The author does a great job describing the gradual blindness overtaking the Marquess and his desperation and guilt that it causes. Secrets abound and Carmichael's death adds a fabulous mystery that will keep the reader wondering until almost the very end. Great writing makes this romance one that will stay with you long after the epilogue ends.

A sweet story, with an H who is going blind, and an h who is widowed by a scoundrel of a man, and happy to be independent and free. She seeks the H to help prove her innocence in the death of her husband. He just wants to seduce her. Mutually attracted, the dance around each other, before passion seizes control.

This was my first Bronwen Evans novel and I am HOOKED. Be sure to read ‘Drawn to the Marquess’ if you love strong women, alpha men, steamy passion, regency opulence, and skilled storytelling. I give few 5-star reviews, but this was well deserved!

I totally enjoyed this story. So many secrets are being kept: Stephen's failing eyesight; the circumstances of Penelope's husband's death. There seems to be a village-wide conspiracy of silence about the death. Everyone claims it to be a "fortunate" accident as the man was universally hated. The dead man's brother is pushing for it to be murder committed by Penelope, as that is the only way he can inherit her properties. Pen engages Stephen to investigate the case and head off any damaging speculation and claims by her brother-in-law. Stephen's payment is that Pen allow him to try to seduce her. I enjoyed following the strife and emotions of the main characters as they grapple with their personal issues. The bonus is there is a pretty good mystery mixed in this story, so enjoy!

Stephan is afraid his eye condition will leave him blind and helpless. As his father had it too, he’s also sworn off marrying or having children who may go blind too. Penelope is a widow whose husband died in an accident that looks like she may have murdered him. Her husband beat her and was involved in a sex-slave smuggling operation that she’s determined to keep secret so it won’t shame her family. She’s sworn never to marry again and give control to a man. She asks Stephan, a former spy, to clear her name. Thrown together they can’t keep their passion under control.

The plot and action were great. While there were plenty of sex scenes, I felt there was a lack of those sweet, tender moments that made me believe in their love. Even the epilogue was more sex. I’m not a prude, I just want more substance outside the bedroom.

Bronwen never disappoints. Loved this story of intrigue, passion and love. Penelope and Stephen had the perfect chemistry and I can't wait for the next book.
