There is nothing like sitting on a bench in a local park and watch someone else discover a painted rock you have left for them to find. Of course, anything free is always appreciated but these can be a real treasure for someone. So glad to have this book as an inspiration and motivational force to get the paints and brushes out again.

Rock painting is a big thing. I find painted rocks all over in parking lots, parks and other places. Some are extremely ornamental and others you can tell the kids have spent lots of time and though on. This book is a great guide to some really nice designs for painting your own rocks. It has step by step painting instructions as well as great pictures. Even some older kids could do these designs. Great book and fun to try the patterns inside.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review.

Loved it! All the examples were clear and colorful providing a wealth of ideas for newbies! Painting and hiding rocks for others to enjoy is something that a few groups do in San Diego, and this book provides all the basics for someone wanting to do the same.

Didn't really have a great time with this book. My kids were pretty board. I did get some good ideas for painting, but nothing I couldn't have gotten out of a pintrest forum. Definitely a pass from me.

I thought that this was the definitive book for a complete beginner like me. I have seen some beautiful examples of rock art on social media and often wondered how to they were created.

This book teaches you not to be shy about having a go. The instructions are clear and user friendly and I discovered more than I expected! A keeper.

An excellent 5 star rating.

Fun and easy book to read and try out. It's definitely something I'd want to do with my daughter. I'm always on the look out for painting activities that I can share with my toddler. It's a great way to spend time with children and at the same time they get to unleash their creative side.

I have been interested in decorating rocks ever since my three sons surprised me as little boys when they carried over sixty rocks from a near by corn field and placed them all around my newly planted flower gardens . They painted the biggest one writing Moma's Gardens .This book will show you what the meaning of leaving a decorated rock in a park for a stranger to find is all about. The different ways you can decorate them from paints to markers , I wish there was much more focus on the decorating and designs instead of where you can leave them etc. The book did inspire me to bring three new rocks back from an anniversary trip I just took from Tennessee, I can't wait to decorate them with butterflies and birds native to that state for my two sisters and my Moma .

I love this book so much that I want to buy my own copy. It's filled with gorgeous illustrations and ideas for ways to do rock art for both kids and adults.

The book covers how to prep rocks and then lots of different art mediums to use on them, from alcohol ink (gorgeous!) to sharpie pens and alcohol to puffy paint to oil pastels and colored pencils. She talks about how to seal them, what to do with them once you start to make them up (very helpful for me, as I was wondering!) and even has ways to use them with kids (letters, numbers and math signs, story stones, etc.). There are lots of creative ideas, beautiful examples, and all you need to get you excited about decorating rocks in all kinds of ways.

Now I want to take a trip to the North Shore to get a zillion smooth rocks and start doing rock art with my kids. :)

I viewed a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

This book ROCKS! It is an excellent craft book for either adults or children and covers every type of medium you could use to paint rocks from markers to marbling and paint to pencils.

This book is split into 11 chapters with the first two chapters explaining where to find the rocks, how to prep them and sealing them so they don't run.

There are plenty of mediums to choose from: Acrylic paint, Markers & pens, Mandala & zentangle, Marbling, Coloured pencils, Decoupage plus how to create unique backgrounds or add embellishments and textures. Each medium many examples to choose from and has step by step instructions with colour photography to accompany these steps. Take for example Decoupage, there is paper, napkins, fabric, tissue paper and temporary tattoos that could be applied to a rock.

The one I'd like to try the most is the marbling effect with nail polish. My daughter and I have a tried similar effect for out nails, so applying it to a rock would be great fun.

Most of the equipment required will be easy enough to find in a craft shop and does not seem that expensive.

I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.

This book has simple instructions on how to find and prep rocks for decoration. The focus of the book is not on designs, but on the variety of media that you can use to make rock art, including puffy paint, nail polish, sharpies, highlighters and oil pastels as well as acrylic paint and fine line markers. The projects in here would be great if you were using up school supplies, such as highlighters and colored pencils, or if you wanted to experiment with different media, such as gelato paints or alcohol inks, or to make small works such as Zentangles, on a different medium from paper.

The projects for various media, with the exception of two projects, are confined to two facing pages, which make it great to set out on a table for everyone to consult as they work on their project, with no flipping pages back and forth. There are tips on using the various media, sealing the artwork and if a type of media is better for an indoor/outdoor display. There are some projects that would work better for children who don't have the dexterity to use pencils or paint brushes, such as painting galaxies or painting houses. For older children, the highlighter, metallic markers and sharpies, henna rocks, and alcohol-based medium products would work well. If you were looking for a more meditative project, the dotted rocks, mandalas and Zentangles would work well. You could also use some of the ideas as gifts for children, such as making counting or alphabet rocks (they would look great in a terrarium with an air plant).

Though some specialized art products are mentioned, most of the materials for a simple project would cost nothing, if you used something left over from school or your own adult coloring habit for free or with products from a dollar store (though the paint may not work as well) and the time to take a hike to find appropriate rocks, most projects would cost less than $5 and make several rocks in that medium with a variety of designs and colors.

Overall I was very impressed with the variety of ideas in this book, especially if you are looking for a brief project or to help your kids (or for an adult) to experiment with various art mediums.

From start to finish a complete book on rock painting techniques and supplies. An extensive product list that is helpful when other books just made suggestions. The author tells you what she uses herself. The photos are colorful and extremely helpful for those of us who lack some artistic bent. A fantastic introduction and probably the only book on rock baiting you will ever need.

My niece loved this book and has painted a couple of the designs to put next to the fairy tree in our local park. We are now thinking of Christmas gift ideas along the same lines maybe on mugs or coasters?

I live in the land of rocks, sand and sun. I have seen painted rocks and did not know how they were done until now. This is a great book for the beginner rock painter. It takes you step by step on the materials you need, how to clean the rocks, how to seal and different techniques. From painting, stenciling, markers and pens, decoupage to colored pencils this book will guide you. My favorite rocks were a owl (white with flower base) and the seahorse. There are even ways to do this with your children or grandchildren. I am very pleased to have this book and am sure it will help me start on my new adventure of rock art.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
