This book!! What can I say, it was a great read for a very long flight to Europe. Made the hours so much more enjoyable. And that’s high praise as I hate long haul flights. A perfect rom com. Light, warm and satisfying in every way.

Title: The Accidental Beauty Queen
Author: Teri Wilson
Pg:304
Genre: Contemporary
Rating: 4 stars
The Accidental Beauty Queen by Teri Wilson is about Charlotte Gorman elementary school librarian who lives in her beauty queen twin sister Ginny’s shadow. Though they are twins Ginny is seen as the beautiful one and Charlotte is seen as the smart one.
When an accident happens and Charlotte has to stand in for her sister at a beauty pageant. The sisters learn things about each other and themselves. Each sister discovers that there is more to each other than meets the eye.
I didn’t think that I would like this book because I wasn’t thrilled about the how beauty pageant setting as I’ve never ready understood that world. But I ended up loving it because I found myself relating to nerdy librarian Charlotte. I loved the Harry Potter and other nerdy book quotes.
If you’re on the fence about reading this book I say go ahead and give it a chance you might just be surprised. But in a good way.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

I absolutely devoured The Accidental Beauty Queen. It was equal parts The Parent Trap, Miss Congeniality, and any rom com that I have loved over the years. I really really enjoyed this title and I hope to see more from Teri Wilson in the future! Bravo!

Somewhere in the hubbub of the past holiday season, I didn’t quite get to this one before it was released and man am I kicking myself over that! This was so stinking cute; I loved every second of it!

Charlotte is a nerdy librarian who loves Harry Potter, two things I can certainly relate to, so of course she is thrilled to go support her twin sister Ginny in a beauty pageant taking place in Orlando. Hellooo Wizarding World of Harry Potter! But when Ginny has an allergic reaction and puffs up all over, Charlotte becomes part of a classic twin shenanigan and is duped into taking her place in the pageant and pretending to be Ginny. What follows is a heartfelt story of sisterhood, self discovery, and just a tad bit of mending a broken heart and learning to love again.

I really loved Charlotte, probably because I can relate to her so easily. She is nerdy and goofy and introverted and totally more concerned with running around the Wizarding World, drinking butterbeer, than hanging around the pageant. Me too girl, me too. But when Ginny needs her help, Charlotte does what any loving sister would do and steps in, even if it does feel a bit like cheating. We unfortunately don’t get to see Ginny developed as well as Charlotte, and she’s much more surface level than anything else, but it’s still clear she loves her sister and would also do anything for her.

The romance aspect of this book is quite sweet, and while not the most prominent aspect, it still covers a nice portion of the plot and helps Charlotte get past some of her insecurities that resulted from a former relationship. Gray is a very charming and kind-hearted love interest, so it was quite easy to root for the two of them.

Overall, this was a very adorable, fast paced read and I am only sad that I didn’t get to it sooner!

I was perusing through E Galleys one day and found this book. It sounded very cute and I just loved the cover. I have been attempting to add chic lit and adult contemporary romances to my library of books and decided this should be a good one to start with. It really was. I really really enjoyed this book. It has some great laugh moments, some tearful moments, feel good moments, and book nerd moments. I loved the characters and I adored the story. It was just fun. A great read.

Charlotte is a down to earth librarian and quite a book nerd ( which comes with the territory of a librarian I supposed. She has a nice quiet life and does enjoy it. Her twin sister, Ginny, is a pageant girl who is trying to follow in their late mother's footsteps. Ginny is after the most important crown in her life. The day before it all starts, she has an allergic reaction. Instead of quitting and going home, she has Charlotte to step in and pretend to be her. With lots of training Ginny is sure Charlotte can pull this off. Charlotte isn't so sure. During the training, the dolling up, Charlotte starts to enjoy herself and has some fun...she also finds herself in a web of lies that will hurt everyone involved.

This book truly was amazing. I was hooked from the very start and just couldn't put it down throughout the entire read. I loved the characters, the story, the romance. Oh the romance. That was so fun and swoony. I really can't think of anything I didn't enjoy about this read.

Charlotte was a great main character. I adored how much of a book nerd she was and really just felt so connected to her from the beginning through this passion of hers. She was very down to earth, even if she did have a few hang ups in her personality, I found she was very easy to love. She didn't always make the right decisions and did find herself making some selfish decisions even though she really didn't want to. She really just wanted to make her sister happy.

Ginny wasn't my favorite character but she added so much depth and realism to the story. She was a bit obsessed but I did find the reason for the obsession of beauty pageants to be understandable and I felt for her wanting to follow in her mother's footsteps. She was quited good with the entire pageant thing too. She did have some growing to do and of course in the end I loved her as much as I loved Charlotte.

I think what I really loved about this story was the story of sisterhood and family. I always love family drama and family bonding over any other relationships in books. I find them to be heartwarming and heartwarming this book was... with a few laughs for good measure.

The writing was just wonderful and the setting was done so well I feel I know so much more about beauty pageants now. I really didn't realize how much was put in to them. I also appreciated the emphasis on the fact these pageants were also about inner beauty and positive body love. Not just trying to be the most beautiful, but trying to the most as a woman.

The romance in this book was really something good. The love interest was just so perfect and lovable and swoony. I am not a huge straight on romance kind of girl and I felt the romance in this book was just right for me to be down with the idea. It wasn't the focus but there wasn't a lack of either. It was just right.

The ending was beautiful and yes I shed a couple of tears and found myself to just be smiling ear to ear wishing I could continue their story. I will miss these characters dearly.

A great read for those that love a good heartwarming, sister bonding, swoony romance, book full of crazy antics kind of read.

Charlotte Gorman is a librarian, a "nerd" and enjoys being casual and comfy. Her twin sister, Ginny is an famous instagram contestant pageant.

Ginny ways has her glam on and has spent years on the pageant road. It's her last opportunity to win the title, "Miss American Treasure" and nothing is going to stop her. Charlotte joins, Ginny for support but then everything goes horribly wrong.

Ginny ends up having a horrific allergic reaction that alters her looks significantly. She begs and pleads with Charlotte to help her and pretend to be her. Charlotte is hesitant but finally agrees to the old twin switcharoo. Charlotte quickly finds out that being a pageant contestant requires a lot of work and rules.

The storyline and characters are predictable but that doesn't mean it isn't a fun worthy read because it is. My favorite character is the French Bulldog. I could have done without the excessive Harry Potter references but don't let that sway you from this fun read that will easily get you laughing and smiling.

This book is exactly what I needed on a frigid, snowy day off. Light, funny, and warm, "The Accidental Beauty Queen" is a story about sisters, self acceptance and of course features a sweet romance. I am happy to report that this story did not feature catty relationships between the female contestants. Yes, the plot was predictable and the romance was chaste but I didn't care and I enjoyed it. I just wished the romance was fleshed out a bit more.

I LOVED this book! The characters were well-developed, and the distinction between Ginny and Charlotte was authentic. As a fellow book nerd, I could feel Charlotte's palpable discomfort as she maneuvered uncharted waters of the beauty pageant world. I laughed out loud, I wiped tears away, and I ended this book with my hope in romance restored. Highly recommend for anyone who wants a lighthearted read!

A fun read, if a bit predictable. I loved the twin sister conundrum AND that Charlotte is a librarian (#dreamjob)! The cover will surely draw readers in and the premise is just perfect for a light read.

Charlotte Gorman is an elementary school librarian and is a true bookworm who loves the classics.
She is the total opposite of her identical twin sister Ginny, who is somewhat of a professional beauty pagant contestant. This time, Charlotte joins Ginny on a trip for a beauty contest for Miss American Treasure in Orlando, Florida. Where she meets a very nice man named Gray when they both are walking their dogs, and their identical love for classic fiction sends a love sparkle over between the two.
The trip takes an odd turn though when Ginny out of the blue gets an allergic reaction that leaves her face bumpy and swollen, and unable to join the conest. Enter Charlotte, her identical twin, who she asks to step into her place and to act like she is Ginny. Suddenly Charlotte finds herself in the middle of the sweet smelling world of hairspray, perfume, make up, fake tans, hair extensions and beauty queen gowns.
Things take an even more odd but also fun twist when Charlotte, posing as Ginny in the middle of a contest day, discovers that Gray is one of the contest judges. This all lead to funny complicated twists and turns till the end of the contest. Can Charlotte keep up appearrances or will she be discovered that she is not who she says she is in the end?

This is perfect book for fans of romantic comedies and for fans of authors like Meg Cabot and Sophie Kinsella. It is a story you are immediately 'in'' and that takes you on a rollercoaster of the most hilarious twists and turns. I can totally imagine this book being a fun play in a theatre or a movie. The author created an identical twin with Charlotte and Ginny but she made them the complete opposite, with Charlotte being an introvert bookworm and librarian and Ginny an extravert beauty queen who loves the attention in the spotlight. I also liked the super romantic part between Charlotte and Gray, which was just perfectly worked out by the author, even as the conclusion and wrap up of the story.
Overall this is a very entertaining read that puts a smile on your face and that I definately recommend reading!

This book hits all of my marks- book-loving heroine, Harry Potter and Jane Austen references, dreamy but real love interest, plus the main character, Charlotte, is an elementary school librarian. I knew I would love this book from the description and I was right. Charlotte is the twin of Ginny, a successful Instagram influencer/beauty pageant contestant. Charlotte has come along with her sister to Florida where her sister hopes to win the Miss American Treasure pageant. When Ginny has an allergic reaction to something, she begs Charlotte to take her place in the preliminaries. This book is typical romantic comedy and it is utterly charming. I found myself increasingly invested in the plot and was really satisfied by the ending. This is one that I think would improve on repeated reading, but is definitely a fun one on the first go round.

Such a fun book! For the most part, I adored it. I loved watching Charlotte's preconceived notions about beauty pageants getting stripped away, and watching her grow as a person. The romantic subplot was fun, if a bit predictable. <spoiler>Honestly, I didn't understand why Charlotte didn't just say "I have a twin sister" the moment she found out her crush was a judge. This was explained like 200 pages later, but I feel like it could have been explored early on. </spoiler>

The other thing that bothered me was the several comments that suggested Charlotte and her identical twin sister were different sizes. (Particularly when trying on evening gowns.) If that's the case, someone surely would have noticed the swap early on. And also, it was weird that literally one dress didn't fit but everything else did. How different in size could they be?

But overall, this is a light fun book, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Beauty pageants have changed a little bit since I watched them as a young girl. Basically, they are the same. I think that in more recent years beauty pageant organizers want us to think of it as a scholarship competition for well rounded beautiful people.
There’s a stigma attached to beauty pageants now that there wasn’t quite as noticeable before or maybe I just didn’t notice because I was five. I can admit that I watched the Miss America contest beginning when I was four or five. However, if I still watched the contest when I’m 45, people would roll their eyes at me and talk about smashing the patriarchy.

The main character in The Accidental Beauty Queen, Charlotte, is focused on being a children’s librarian but she is attending the pageant to support her twin sister, Ginny. She’s more interested in visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter than hanging out at a beauty pageant.

Well, Charlotte doesn’t get to spend as much time at Diagon Alley as she had planned. Ginny had a severe allergic reaction that affected her face. She would not be able to finish the competition. It would have been her last chance to win the same pageant that their mother. who had passed away, had won years before.

So after some debate, Charlotte agrees to compete in the preliminary part of the pageant in Ginny’s place. Charlotte also meets the man of her dreams, who is one of the pageant judges. Plus, there’s a feisty rescue dog that she’s in charge of until Ginny recovers.

It’s a little bit predictable except for the thing that Ginny does at the end of the pageant. I can live with the tiny amount of predictability in this book because it was fun and relatable. It was nice to read a book with some humor and heart.

The Accidental Beauty Queen by Teri Wilson -- Ah, love love love.

Use this book in the event that you need words full of delightful mushy romance and quirky bookish fun.

This book was fresh, and light and perfect. First off, twins.. switching places.. who wouldn't want to read that! This was a sweet romance that I enjoyed from the first word to the last word. I don't know how to describe this book without giving too much away. The personalities drew me in, the scenes captivated me, the arguments had me wanting more.

This was SO fun. I can so appreciate the feeling overlooked by a more glamorous peer, and coming into your own anyway.

Disclaimer: I received this book from Netgally for review purposes.

I should be clear, I don't usually read these types of books. I feel like you should just take it for what it is and not look into it that much but I gotta. I hope this doesn't seem too mean! 😣

First, this book beats you over the head with pop culture references. I was done by the second Harry Potter refrence but it keeps going and going the entire book. We get it, Charlotte likes Harry Potter.

Charlotte is also upset because her sister is hot BUT YOU'RE TWINS! She remembers back to a tramatic event where a boy asked her to the school dance but meant to ask her 'hot' sister. Newsflash girl, if you get confused for your hot sister, you too are also hot.

They seem to be really trying to convince you Charlotte is not a beauty queen but a nerd, but I had trouble grasping that because her passions...are...so mainstream. Walk into any teen store and you will find Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland things. You are not a nerdy special snowflake, Charlotte.

I had a hard time with the romance too but I'm not going to go there. Honestly what irked me the most was this girl whose almost 30 gave her friends kids CHANEL MAKE UP TO PLAY WITH.

If that was my sister I would disown her.

ANYWAY, if you don't deconstruct this book and just ignore some cringey elements, it's a cute, fluffy, quick read! I liked it more than I usually do with these books, honestly. There wasnt a sterotypical mean pagent girl which was really refreshing. At the end of the day, it would probably be a cute movie

A tale of two sisters. Charlotte is a introverted school librarian. Ginny is a gregarious beauty queen. Ginny insists that Charlotte join her for a big beauty pageant weekend. You see where this is going right? A story about makeup and glitter and all the girl drama. Surprisingly, this story is the opposite, in the best possible way!

This is a female positive comedy where, yes, the characters each have their flaws but, there are no mean girls here. Refreshing! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how each sister changed and grew over the course of this pageant weekend.

Thank you to Gallery Books and NetGalley for opportunity to read this feel-good novel. All opinions are my own.

A typical Teri Wilson book: cute, sweet, and romantic. A well-written romance with a message in which a plain-jane twin covers for her beauty-queen sister after a disastrous allergic reaction. .

Once I learned that this author had written books and Hallmark movie adaptations, I was sold on this book. I also tend to love books that are billed as more “romantic comedies” as well, a la Sophie Kinsella. Another key point? The reference to Miss Congeniality. I’m so happy that this book lived up to my expectations!

Charlotte and Ginny are twin sisters. The former is a children’s librarian and the latter is a beauty queen… until they have to secretly switch places. While Charlotte visits with Ginny in Florida for a pageant, Ginny suffers an allergic reaction that would otherwise derail her participation in the pageant. Much to Charlotte’s initial dismay, Ginny begs her to compete instead… and she agrees.

It was interesting to see these two seemingly different sisters try to bond and essentially become the same person for a few days. It was even better to meet others in the competition and see how Charlotte’s biases toward them completely changed; she was able to see that her sister was right – they ARE about more than just outward appearances. The contestants are supportive and encouraging to each other, and there were a lot of sweet scenes along those lines.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a rom-com without the romance element! It’s not exactly in the synopsis so I won’t spoil too much, but the romance was pretty great. It didn’t take up a lot of focus though – the book was nicely balanced between family dynamics and romance. The love interest himself was swoon-worthy and he had great chemistry with Charlotte. I mean, most of their banter was about Harry Potter and other literary references! What more could you want from a man!?

My only area of concern would be around the pacing? The last chapter or two felt slightly rushed and could have used a little more build-up or focus. However, I loved the way the book ended in general from a plot perspective. It was heartwarming and appropriate given all of the shenanigans the girls pulled throughout the story. Overall, if you liked Miss Congeniality and lots of witty banter surrounding literary references, I have a good feeling you’ll love this one too!

I liked this book a lot. It was cute and fun and would make a great beach/poolside read. The plot is predictable, as it always is with these sorts of books, but it's fun enough that you don't mind.

I highly recommend it to all lovers of "chick lit" and silly, light, fluffy reads.
