This isn't my normal style of book but it kept me reading deep into the night to find out how it went. There were so many parts were I felt for the main character and winced along with her.

The Accidental Beauty Queen is a light and quick read with cute and quirky characters that I could totally see playing out on a movie channel. You have the mousier twin who never quite measures up to her beautiful beauty pageant-loving sister, the trading of places when one is too (temporarily) disfigured to compete, and the hilarity that ensues from said switch during the competition. It’s a made-for-TV movie waiting to happen.

The identical twins are 29 years old, live completely different lives, and couldn’t be more opposite if they tried. Charlotte joins Ginny in Florida to support her mission to win the Miss American Treasure pageant, hoping for a Harry Potter-filled vacation from her life as a children’s librarian. What she didn’t expect was to be roped into helping Ginny make it into the finals by pretending to be her. While Ginny lives and breathes pageants, Charlotte is introverted and shies away from the spotlight. However, Charlotte learns a thing or two about herself and her family as she is primped within an inch of her life while trying not to look like a baby giraffe on stilts.

I enjoyed the dynamic between the sisters, along with learning their family history and why pageant life is so important to Ginny. While there is a minor, fade-to-black romance with a handsome, literary-loving billionaire, it isn’t the primary focus of the story; overcoming sibling rivalry, learning to move on from the past, and the importance of the sisterly bond is.

The Accidental Beauty Queen is a refreshing take on the Parent Trap switcheroo scenario with lots of Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice thrown in for good measure. With several heartwarming and laugh-out-loud moments, I recommend it to anyone looking for a light and spirited read.

This is one of the best rom com I've ever read and I know that this book will get a movie deal. I even started casting the actors in my head. So Charlotte and Ginny are identical twins, Charlotte in a nerdy Harry Potter obsessed librarian and Ginny is a pageant girl as well as an Instagram influencer. Ginny has a terrible allergic reaction right before her pageant festivities and convinces her sister to take her until her swelling in gone. Charlotte has a major crush that end up being one of the judges at the pageant.

As I was reading this book I could honestly picture the scenes in my head. I love how each sister got to see the beauty and brain in themselves through their journey. Yes a girl can be beautiful and smart at the same time. It doesn't seem like it at first but this book as a great message about women being empowered and owning who they are.

LOVED IT!

Ginny and Charlotte are identical twins. Although they look alike, their lives have taken very different directions. Ginny spends her time competing in beauty pageants and has worked hard to achieve some success. Her goal is to win the upcoming Miss American Treasure pageant- a title previously won by her mother. Charlotte is more introverted and is happy working as a librarian where she can enjoy her precious books. With little social overlap, the two sisters are not as close as most twins.

Charlotte decides to spend her vacation by supporting Ginny at the pageant. The night before the competition, Ginny breaks out in hives on her face from a food allergy. Rather than withdrawing, the sisters swap identities and Charlotte makes her secret beauty pageant debut. In the process, she makes surprising discoveries about herself and moves forward to repairing ties with her sister.

This was another fun novel by Teri Wilson. I was first introduced to her books in The Royally Roma series. The Accidental Beauty Queen was not only a book about pageants but about sisterly love and rivalry.

I really enjoyed this fun, light read. It was just what I needed after reading several heavier thrillers.

What I liked: This was exactly what I expected and that was nice.
What I loved: The characters were all rather endearing.
What I hated: Can't say that I hated anything.

This is just a great little read for anyone who just wants a nice light read.

This was an endearing read about twin sisters who haven’t always seen eye to eye on things. While on twin is trying to follow in the footsteps of their late Beauty Queen mother, the other hides among stacks of books as a librarian. Even though Charlotte wants nothing to do with the beauty pageant life, she is there to support her twin. Then the unexpected happens, an allergic reaction that “blows up” in their faces.

The old cliche of twins switching places comes into play in this story but it is done hilariously. I loved the dimension of the character traits of these sisters. They were just two women being fake, they read as if they were real women going through these events.

This was a great contemporary book that really worked. It was a bit reminiscent of the movie Miss Congeniality but that made it even more fun.

A delightful and beautiful story about finding love. Love of one's self, love of family, and maybe even the love of one's life. When bookish Charlotte has to take her twin sister's place in a beauty pageant, she is faced with the dilemma of a lifetime. Can she find the confidence and the stamina to believe in herself and win the crown? Filled with literary references and a handsome Darcy-like love interest, fans of Miss Congeniality and Pride and Prejudice will love this book!

Would you do anything for your twin to help her win something important to her, even if it meant going against every fiber of your being? And with a stinky dog as a sidekick?
That’s the question Charlotte must ask herself in “The Accidental Beauty Queen”, when her twin sister Ginny has a medical emergency that could prevent her from achieving her dream of winning the same beauty queen title their late mother held years ago. Charlotte is, as she puts it, the Lizzy Bennet to Ginny’s Jane, or the Jo March to Ginny’s Meg. She’s the smart and bookish one, whereas Ginny is the pretty one.
Teri Wilson tackles the idea of a “Parent Trap meets Miss Congeniality” well, with Charlotte navigating her sister’s world of hair extensions and high heels with humor, poise, and realism. Charlotte learns more about herself and her sister by stepping into Ginny’s stilettos than she could have done by listening to her sister’s stories about the behind the scenes of Miss American Treasure. The author addresses sibling rivalry, misconceptions, and potential love interests in a straight forward manner without too much fluff, making the reader believe that this could happen to anyone.
The Accidental Beauty Queen is a light, fun read; perfect for curling up with a cup of tea under a blanket while watching the snow fall, or by the beach on a Caribbean vacation.

Okay, imagine that Miss Congeniality, The Parent Trap and Pride and Prejudice had a sleepover and combined into a rhinestone encrusted story about an identical twin coerced into taking her sister's place in a beauty pageant.

Is it awesome?

It's awesome.

Charlotte is a children's librarian (score) and her sister Ginny is a beauty pageant queen and Instagram influencer. Ginny has a whole hell of a lot of personality, and I like that there was a lot of sister bonding and girl bonding and all of the contestants were genuinely nice people trying to make the world a better place. Seriously. There is not one catty girl moment—it's all uplifting, even the dreaded swimsuit competition.

And there's a love interest! Who—don't get me wrong—despite being my least favorite part of the book (handsome, billionaire, suave, a little one dimensional) was still swoony, upstanding and surprisingly ethical for a handsome tech billionaire.

And of course the makeover moment, with its many shout-outs to Anne Hathaway (I agree with Charlotte—why do movie people keep trying to make her over?? She's gorgeous), which is basically this without the gun, Victor or a team of highly skilled professionals.

It's light, it's fluffy, and sure it's a little optimistic on the abilities of an inexperienced dog trainer, but there's Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice quotes, and did I mention that a children's librarian is the main character?

A children's librarian?

Granted, all the stereotypes of librarians as plain, non-make-up wearing spinsterly bookworms are played up to the hilt, but still—

A book about a librarian.

Charlotte and Ginny are identical twins. Charlotte is a librarian in love with all things books. Ginny is chasing an elusive dream of being crowned Miss American Treasure. It's a good thing Charlotte attended the pageant in support of her sister because the night before the activities start, Ginny has a full blown allergic reaction and cannot participate. She convinces Charlotte to take her place in the preliminaries. Hilarity ensues.

This was a fast and funny read. It would be easy to blow this off as fluff, but the story is actually very heart-warming. Both sisters discover thing about themselves - both good and bad. And while there was some romance involved, it was not the may point of the story. It was easy to like Charlotte right from the beginning. By the end, I was also a fan of Ginny.

This is the first book I've read by Teri Wilson, but it won't be my last.

My thanks to Gallery, Threshold Pocket Books and Netgalley.

This book was exactly the romantic comedy I was hoping it would be with a few nerdy quirks thrown in that I adored. This book was cute, light and a great break from the heavier reads I have been into lately. The romance in the book is a bit of a side story instead of the main point, but I liked that. The book was really about Charlotte and Ginny’s development as sisters and as individuals and it was nice to see that instead of a book based solely on the romance. I loved all the female positivity and the Harry Potter references. Overall I enjoyed this read and would recommend it to anyone looking for a light quirky read.

The Accidental Beauty Queen is a great bit of escapism. It's silly, over the top, and completely predictable. It's also witty, often hilarious, loads of fun, and maybe even a little bit of a lesson about seeing things from both sides of the coin before passing judgment. There is romance - well, there's instalove, which I'm not usually a fan of, but it's not really the focus here. The story is about identical twins, Charlotte and Ginny. I'll admit, I wasn't crazy about Ginny for most of the story. She has a bad case of "It's all about me" syndrome and doesn't even consider how things affect others. However, she doesn't make excuses for it, and she is redeemable. Charlotte isn't exactly on this trip for entirely selfless reasons either, but her plans get derailed and she finds herself smack in the middle of interviews, swimsuit competitions, and finding a talent to wow the judges. All in all, the angst level is low and the fun is high for engaging and entertaining read.

When Charlottes twin sister Ginny has an allergic reaction the evening before the start of her beauty pageant, Ginny asks Charlotte the unthinkable: pretend to be her in her place until her reaction goes away. With nothing in common except looks, Librarian and Harry Potter lover Charlotte was only here for a vacation. Against her better judgement Charlotte agrees to help and finds herself swept away into the glitz and glam of pageantry; and liking it.

“I swallow. Hard. And I remind myself there are worse things in the world than looking like my beauty queen twin. Especially in this instance.”

I am a huge fan of Miss Congeniality and this book was just as amazing. I loved Charlotte and found her to be extremely relatable. Rather than follow in her sisters’ path of being a beauty queen, Charlotte prefers books and quiet rather than the glamorous lifestyle of pageantry. Charlotte and Ginny had a fairly strained relationship since the passing of their mother that got more and more strained as they grew up and their paths went different ways. When Charlotte decides to help Ginny and be around her more, we see their relationship start to heal. By the end of the book, I was so happy to see the twins mending their relationship.

The romance between Gray and Charlotte was amaaaaaaaazing. Not too fast, not too slow, just right. Gray is not only a fellow book lover and described as a Mr. Darcy(swoon), but also a judge for the beauty pageant Charlotte is in. What could possibly go wrong, right?!

The Accidental Beauty Queen was a cute, fun read that I finished in one sitting. I may or may not have cried (I did, don’t judge me) at the end. I LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS OKAY.

This is a really cute, quick read. I enjoyed this Parent Trap meets Miss Congeniality plot. At first I was hoping for the whole story to be about Ginny and Charlotte... Sort of a coming to terms story with their sisterhood and their differences. As the book went though, I really ended up liking Grey. So I wasn't too sad that there was romance involved in the plot too. It was very cute in a nerdy sort of way (so many Harry Potter references! etc.). Also she says her favorite book is Jane Eyre. So it's a keeper for obvious reasons. I liked that this book did address the issues she had with her sister, and with herself as well as the romantic plot. This was a very cute PG-13 sort of romance... and I liked it. :)

Today’s #somethingtoread2018 was totally unexpected for me. The Accidental Beauty Queen by Teri Wilson comes out today (Happy Book Birthday!) and I got an ARC from Netgalley a few days ago so I thought I’d sit down to start it because I was really excited for this one.

I read it in one sitting! You guys, the main character, Charlotte would probably be one of my best friends in real life. She’s a school librarian (dream job), she drops Harry Potter references like crazy, and she falls for a Mr. Darcy-esque character like I totally would haha

When her twin sister Ginny can’t compete in her National pageant, she gets Charlotte to take her place since they look exactly alike...what could go wrong, right?

Plus, the Miss Congeniality vibe of the whole story had me laughing and respecting these amazing, smart pageant women and all the are able to do.

Such a fun read. I had to come on here and rec for your list right away.

Charlotte Gorman is an elementary school librarian, who is a huge fan of classic books & Harry Potter. Her twin sister, Ginny (a beauty pageant contestant famous for her Instagram presence) won't stop competing until she wins the title of Miss American Treasure. Ginny invites Charlotte along as a good luck charm (and for some sisterly bonding time), but their plans get completely blown up when Ginny has an allergic reaction the night before the pageant begins. With her face completely swollen and unable to compete, she convinces quiet, bookish Charlotte to step in for her & compete. Charlotte has tons of ideas about the pageant world & what it's like, but comes to find out the contestants aren't as silly as they seem. A chance encounter with a handsome man & his dog leave her reeling, and Charlotte discovers that the crown (and her sister's reputation) may not be her only motivation.

I thought this book was adorable! It had so many wonderful bibliophile references, and I loved that Charlotte would've fit right in with bookstagram - Harry Potter & Jane Austen are both referenced on multiple occasions, and she talks about her TBR stack! While this was a fun & lighthearted read, I also loved that the sister relationship was explored. There are so many books out there where relationships are fractured, so I loved seeing sisters that loved each other so much. This book was so sweet & easy to read! I loved the behind the scenes of the pageant world. This is definitely worth reading!

I loved this book. From page one it grabbed my attention and I flew through the story.

Charlotte and Ginny are identical twins, but Ginny is a pageant queen whereas Charlotte is an elementary school librarian more interested in touring Harry Potter World in her robes than walking down the runway in a formal gown. When Ginny has an allergic reaction that causes her face to swell, she begs Charlotte to take her place. This is the last year that she can take part in the competition that their deceased mother won in the 1970s. All Ginny needs is for Charlotte to make it through to the finals, where Ginny can take over. Charlotte agrees to step completely outside her comfort zone, but ends up learning more about herself and her sister than she ever thought possible.

I relate to Charlotte on so many levels. She takes a trip to Orlando to support her sister in a beauty pageant, but truly goes so that she can spend the week laying by the pool, reading her stack of books, and visiting Harry Potter world. She is a homebody who much prefers to be in jeans and a t-shirt than dresses and bikinis. It was fun to watch her step into the world of beauty pageants and see that they are more than they’re cracked up to be.

Wilson does a wonderful job at working the relationship between the sisters. The complexity of being identical twins and balancing the connection with being individuals was done so well. I also greatly enjoyed Charlottes growth throughout the novel. While there is a bit of a love story (which was so cute), her growth was not based around falling in love which I much appreciated.

After finishing the book, I looked up to see what else Wilson has written (which is always the sign of a good book) and saw that she has written a few books that have been adapted into Hallmark movies! Now, unfortunately, I don’t know if this one would be picked up and turned into a Hallmark movie because it’s more of a sister story than a romance story, but I would love to see this book made into a movie. It’s a great balance of silly shenanigans and dealing with growing up and finding oneself.

This book was received as an ARC from Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book reminded me of the movie Model Behavior coping with the twin swap except for the fact in Accidental Beauty Queen the twin sisters knew eachother and grew up together. I also love the twist on beauty pageants and the plot-line that the one sister gets sick and her intelligent non-beauty pageant unfamiliar sister takes over and ends up being the one to beat. You knew going in that this was not going to be your typical beauty pageant stories and chaos was to occur at some point. This book is not only for young teenage women but for everyone in the fact that there is a strong theme associated with this book.

We will definitely consider this book for our Fiction section at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
