I DNFed the first book, but luckily the hero in this one was less dramatic and seemed actually well adjusted, with a heroine who was more interested in developing a relationship than "fixing" the trauma that the man experienced. Both had an experience with grief and losing their families, and I liked how that helped cement their relationship rather than serve as a deterrent.

Cosmic sparks and thrilling excitement launch this sci-fi romance out into the galaxy and pull readers right along for the journey. Thea and Rex are bold, convincing characters that captivates readers from the very beginning, Rex with his sexy bad boy image but underneath he has a most appealing side while Thea is feisty and determined with a daring side that also holds an appealing side. The romance for this couple starts off with sparks, mistrust and a sizzling undercurrent that readers can practically feel while Rex tries to woo Thea despite her mistrust and her determination to make her way back to Earth.

The plot has a fast pace and flows smoothly throughout the universe as Rex and Thea travel through space on a supply run that has them running into a bit of trouble which adds some thrilling suspense to the story along with the trouble that the Outcast colony is facing at home with some mysterious elves and armored battle cats. The story is fascinating, exciting and has some wonderfully diverse elements that makes for an interesting read and the relationship has lots of heated passion and stirring love scenes and I couldn’t help but be intrigued and captivated by it, so I am looking forward to visiting the Outcasts again.

I really liked this sci-fi romance. Cyndi Friberg has continued her "Outcasts" stories and I enjoyed it. Good characters and dialogue.

Rex and Thea are both a little fragile and each have been facing loss, tragedy and grief, although at differing stages of the process. Thea is level headed and not a wimp, whilst Rex is Alpha but also willing to compromise to get what he wants.

Rex is a lateral thinker. He allowed Thea to come to her own decisions, whilst coaching her through her new reality, but without putting her under pressure. The outcasts are quickly learning that this so-called empty world is not quite so empty!

The book was a slow-starter for me. I put it down and picked it up several times but just couldn't get into the story. I like the idea of the book but this one just wasn't for me.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I have a thing for reading sci-fy romance, especially the ones that included fated mates in them. This book was perfect for me in that way.

It is the second book in the series, so at times there were a few things that I didn't understand (probably since I hadn't read the first book). This didn't take too much from the overall story and I was still able to follow along and enjoy the plot.

I loved that even though the two main characters are mates, they do not force themselves on each other. Rex understands what Thea is going through and tries to help her work through her grief.

I do feel like the story ended a bit abruptly. I wish I could have seen a bit more of how they ended, but I have a feeling we will read more about that in the next book. There is a bit of a cliffhanger in the story. It's not related to the specific couple more like the general storyline of the series.

I recommend this book, and want to read the next one when it comes out.

I received an ARC version of this book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and critiques are my own.

Maurader is the second book of the Outcast Saga. It focuses heavily on the love story of Rex and Thea. Rex is an alien smuggler that is working closely with the outcasts. Technically he's not an outcast at this point but he trades with them and shares alot of their ideals. Arton, a character you should at least be familiar with, comes to him with a plan to set a trap on his ship to see if a human woman still wants to escape their new 'home'. No surprise Thea, a resident trouble maker, takes them up on the opportunity and tries to escape. Rex is arrogant, and sort of selfish. Thea, unfortunately, comes accross as crazy for most of the book. She's supposed to come accross as independent, strong, and Scrappy. She feels like a one note character. Rex on the other hand is more dynamic. It feels like he grows over the course of the story.

Honestly, I like the first book much better then this one, but am glad I read this book. I wanted to find out more about the outcasts.

I loved this book! I was engaged from the first. Thea's story is heart-breaking as is that of Rex. Being torn between mourning and the possibility of a new beginning resonates in this book. The chemistry between the two is lava hot. and Rex proves his worth. The battle cats sound ferocious and I can just picture them. Look forward to reading more Outcast stories. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I freely leave this honest review.

This was an enjoyable read, though because I had not read the first book it was at times very confusing particularly in the beginning, so I would recommend reading the series in order. Thea and Rex were two characters who have known true despair and it was lovely to see them find some happiness.
