"I received an E-ARC for free from Netgalley in return for an honest review. All thoughts/opinions are my own."

I DNF (did not finish) @36%.

What I disliked:

*I had a hard time following the timeline. I was never 100% sure WHAT timeframe I was reading. One chapter would say "2 weeks earlier"...and then the following chapter picked up another time (at least to me it seemed that way).

*I also did NOT like the main character, Polly. I couldn't figure out her deal. Was SHE the real "bad guy"....was SHE the "crazy" one. I don't know. Maybe if I would have finished the book, I would have the answers to my questions.

What I liked: Didn't read enough to find anything I really liked.

Overall, since I didn't finish this book, i cannot recommend it.

Rebecca Muddiman has given us a very thrilling domestic noir novel!

The premise of the book is chilling and peaked my interest. Without giving away any spoilers, I can tell you that this one kept me up at night! Please read this book!

This novel is a little hard to read because it jumps back and forth in time. However, it is a decent read. Jacob stalks Polly and sneaks into her house. He abuses her and she finally breaks. I would recommend reading it before reading reviews, so there are no spoilers. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Polly Cooke has got a new home. A home she can call her own.
One night coming home from work, she notices a shadow in her upstairs window. Who is inside her house? Should she go in and confront them or run?
I can’t tell more about the book without spoiling it.

The book started great, but then the soliloquy became monotone. It read like a diary. Something like: I woke up. I made coffee. I got dressed. I decided not to go to work. I made a list of some things to buy for the house. I went to see mom. I took the bus.
And this became repetitive in each new chapter.
Talking about chapters, the navigation between the past and present was confusing. In the middle of a chapter titled “2 weeks earlier”, we were jumping to the present time without any hint.
We have an unreliable character who weaves her own reality and feeds it to us bit by bit, but then halfway through starts telling the story as it has happened. This is the same person with the same mentality, so why would she change her narrative? I don’t know if I am making myself clear. But it would have been better if the second part of the story was told by a third person.

Thanks to Rebecca Muddiman, Bloodhound Books and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy.

Wow, absolutely loved this book from the beginning to the end and it kept me gripped from start to finish with plenty of twists and turns.

At first I wondered where the story was going but then wham everything fell into place and I couldn't put it down, just loved the way this author writes.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book, well done Rebecca a very worthy five star read.

Polly has finally managed to move into her own place. She is so chuffed and wanting to buy things for her own space- but all in good time. Meanwhile her mother is on a care home after being found a danger to herself and very confused.Polly feels that she has had rather a hard time in the past and is finally getting what she deserves. She arrives home to find someone is in her house. She doesn't know any of the neighbours yet and it is pouring with rain. Should she confront him or should for help? Who is in there and why? Chapters vary between the past ( a few weeks beforehand) and now. Oooh!!! One of those reads that envigles you into the pages and you find yourself trying to read faster and faster to find out what is happening. Just over halfway through and I was aghast at what was happening as I hadn’t seen it coming. I liked Polly to start with….. I won’t spoil anything by saying any more, other than prepare for the unexpected and maybe just maybe loyalties may change. A book to devour, one to get engrossed in. If you like one to keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you up until you have finished it- then this could be the one. A brilliantly clever, well thought out read.

Sometimes when reading fiction your judgement of and empathy felt towards a character may change, sometimes quite dramatically when the full facts regarding their true nature and actions are revealed. There are few better examples of this than that of Polly Cooke the main character in Rebecca Muddiman's dark unsettling tale. The author of previous crime books "Murder in Slow Motion", "Gone", "Stolen", "Tell me Lies" and " Stilles Grab" Rebecca has now produced a deliciously twisting addition to the family noir genre resonating (although it has become a cliche) with elements of "Gone Girl". The story is narrated in the first person by Polly and it begins with her returning to her new home and seeing someone inside it. The following chapters are then set in the immediate past as Polly begins to tell her story and how she is being stalked by a character called Jacob who appears to have had a previous relationship with her but the full details are yet to be revealed.

Immediately we have a sense that something is not quite right. Polly was previously sharing a flat with two other young women and laments on the almost impossibility of owning one's own place with or without a partner but in a short space of time she has now acquired what appears to be a reasonably sized property. And why would the furniture of the deceased previous owner who was an old lady still be there? I naturally do not wish to reveal too much of the plot but just to say that things that the narrator states perhaps should not be taken at face value. What I particularly liked was how eventually we got a rationale although undoubtedly twisted and depraved into the motivations behind the actions undertaken. The book was completed in under a day and certainly merited the couldn't put it down epithet as one reached the ending and the chilling final lines. A very enjoyable read which will I believe appeal to readers of this popular genre.

I finished this book in a day and the reason Is simple. I could not put it down. It was too addicting. I’m surprised that this is my first novel by Muddiman. How have I not read any of her previous novels?

Polly recently moved in into a new home. She calls it her dream home. But someone is lurking. Inside and outside of her house. Who is he and what does he want from her?

It’s really unpredictable but once you get through the chapters, the story unwraps and you figure it out along the way. It’s very shocking. It really does astound me what people would do for the things they want. How far they would go to get what they want. After reading this novel, you question yourself. How far would you go?

This novel was very interesting because at first you know who to side with. But then throughout the novel, you find yourself switching sides. It’s such an exhilarating ride that you will find yourself wondering why someone is stalking Polly. What has she done?

The ending was a bit unsatisfying for me especially that last line because you already knew where it was going to go. The thriller element was definitely there and I do think this was important because many times while reading a thriller it will serve as a mystery rather than a thriller. This made me close my curtains and peek outside to make sure no one was watching me! Made me paranoid and I just love books like that!

It did go really far. It just goes to prove that people are crazy and there are always two sides to the story and you gotta read it to find out what they are. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

A job very well done!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for providing me with an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you so much Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. For the first half of the book I was asking "Ok, this is interesting, but where is it going?" The second half was like. .. WHOAAA. Really good book!

I love a good domestic noir and this is one of the best I have read.
At first I thought the main character Polly was paranoid, then I thought that it was all in head. It was a shock when I found out the truth. A memory from her childhood had planted a seed which continued to grow into her adult life. Polly wants what she thinks she deserves.
This book was a page turner, finished it in one sitting and the ending was explosive. This is definitely one of my best reads of the month.
I would like to thank the author Rebecca Muddiman,Bloodhound books and Net.galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for giving an honest review.

Yikes! This one is hard to talk about without giving away spoilers. The characters are awful for the most part. Don’t get me wrong, they are well written but what a bunch!

The story takes a bit of time to get going but once it does it doesn’t stop. The flipping of timeframes was a bit confusing at first but grew on me.

I struggled with this review because I didn’t love the story so much. It creeped me out actually. I think that might be a selling point for some readers though...

Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and Bloodhound Books for a copy in exchange for a review.

I liked this story. I found the main character hard to like. The story was quick to get through but not my favorite writing style. Overall I did enjoy!

No Place Like Like Home is about a woman named Polly who, just bought her dream house. But is she safe? You won’t want to put this book down! Very suspenseful. I didn’t see a lot of the action coming.

I was given in advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.. This was a slow burn and I almost gave up on it, but I’m really glad I didn’t – the book evolves into an absolute clusterfuck I halfway in and I mean that in the best sense of the word. Everything goes batshit crazy in the way that you hope these will go. Stick it out

Clear your diary!! No Place Like Home is really hard to put down once you pick it up. An intriguing read that shows how childhood can impact how a person develops and the rationale for their behaviors. The book takes the reader through many emotions, from sympathy with the main character, Polly all the way through to sheer d to dislike of her, at times.

Polly is seeking what we all want in life, security; she believes she will obtain this by having a nice home.

I found myself desperately wanting to get to the end of the book to uncover the story but also wanting to delay the enjoyment of the book. Rebecca Muddiman has a fantastic way of telling the story, in great detail but keeping the reader engaged.

I am off to read some more from Rebecca.

Polly is coming home from work. As she nears her new house she sees a silhouette in her bedroom. "What's he doing in my house?"

Two weeks before: Jacob (Polly's former boyfriend) had been hanging around outside her house. He leaves an envelope with a half-naked picture of Polly on her doorstep. Jacob really wanted to talk with her. Polly doesn't want anything to do with Jacob. Another note arrives later on:. "I thought you loved me, bitch." Jacob keeps trying to get Polly to open the door to talk. No way. Ethel, Polly's elderly neighbor, comes by the day following. All of the noise from the night before was just due to kids just messing around says Polly.

Polly visits her mum in a nursing home.
Her mum had a stroke and is bedridden. Dementia, too? One time at the nursing home, Polly overhears carer Cathy speaking with Polly's mum. However, Polly's mum does not really talk with Polly like that! Nope. Polly wants to know why her mum will talk to her carer rather her own daughter. So Polly stalks Cathy a bit.

One to two weeks earlier, Jacob visits Polly at home with his buddy (tough-guy) Phil. Polly is literally tortured. When Polly says, "Don't hurt me, I've done nothing wrong!" Phil responds with "Are you f****** kidding me?" Phil told Polly that SHE started "this"'

Polly has outgrown her roommates. Since she is spending a lot of time at Phil's, now, Polly influences Jacob in order to stay at his place. He is kind to her yet does have to put up with her high-and-mighty demeanor, narcissism and no sex. She puts up with Phil's not working, raw demeanor and naivety. Eventually Polly will move in with Jacob full time. He opens up to her about his prison term for (almost) deadly assault.

Eventually, after living together for a while, Polly feels like a surrogate mother to Jacob and then gaslights him. She goes over the top when she buys LSD from a temp co-worker and feeds it to Jacob in increasingly high doses. She wants everyone to know how badly Jacob treats her. (Or how crazy/violent he is). In time, Jacob has heard enough of her degrading - and, in fact, does beat Polly up.
Polly makes sure that Jacob's doctor sees how she looks, yet plays it cagey in regards to informing police or social workers. She tells Jacob that he has to leave. (Of course there will be another assault charge on the horizon if she calls police).
She "reminds" Jacob that she has bought his house and has been paying him mortgage. She shows him their bank records...

The day with Phil and Jacob continues in the torture mode. Polly has been punched, waterboarded, kicked, restrained and taunted - by Phil (and Jacob somewhat).

Then everything goes haywire...

WOW! A super read! Not boring - FAST paced and intriguing!!! Great character development and supreme
plot detail. You will never guess what is coming next!

Many thanks to Bloodhound Books and NetGalley for a real winner of a read !

Thankyou to NetGalley, Bloodhound Books and Rebecca Muddiman for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of No Place Like Home.
This was one book where you never knew where the storyline was going. While I did like the book, it didn't grab me whereby I had to read the book in one sitting.

Home is the place where you should feel safe, but that’s not the case for Polly Cooke. Her neighbor, Jacob has a fascination with Polly, one that knows no bounds. A frightening story of obsession
