I unfortunately forgot to download the e-book on my kindle before it was archived and/or lost interest in the book because it’s been on my tbr for way too long, so I wasn’t able to read and review it (on time). Since I Must give a star rating, I’ve given it 3 stars to stay neutral/in the middle. Sorry to the publisher for not having gotten around to actually read it.

I requested this not realizing it was part of a series. And if I had read the series I probably would have really enjoyed this but its not a book you can easily pick up knowing nothing about the series. Im giving it 3 stars because its kind of my fault for not realizing at the time of request/reading.

Siren's Lure is part of The Aermian Fueds by Frost Kay. It fits between Crown's Shield and Enemy's Queen. I'll admit, I made a pretty big mistake here. I was so distracted by such a stunning cover that I failed to realize that this was part of a story. So, my bad on that part. On the bright side, I didn't really have any trouble following along, so it's safe to try for new fans!

Lilja is a pirate captain bent on revenge. Admittedly, that doesn't sound all that unique when you put it like that. However, there is one thing that makes Lilja stand out. Or it would if she didn't keep the secret so close to her chest.

Now, Lilja must make a choice. Let a man die or risk exposing her secret to the world. Really, there's only one option available to her.

If you enjoy reading about mermaids, pirates, or a combination thereof, then you'll probably enjoy Siren's Lure. It's a delightful combination of the two, even if it is fairly easy to predict how the secret itself will unfold.

Siren's Lure is apparently a prequel, so I really lucked out on that front. It explains how two characters came to know each other, which I feel will be very relevant in the main novels. Still, I enjoyed the story without understanding all of that context.

Overall, I'd say the world introduced in Siren's Lure was fun and creative. I'm not sure if I'd go ahead and grab the rest of the series – but that has more to do with my overwhelming TBR backlog than it does my lack of interest.

I thought this was the first book in a series and I was very confused. I had not read the previous books so my review is probably not the best one to judge this book by.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. This is a novella that is part of this series. IT was full of action and added well to the story of the series, but there are some issues with formatting and the story line being a little jumbled. We will have to see how it comes in the books to come. Overall a good addition of information and details to the world created.

This was really hard for me to read, and I'm not sure if it's because it's a novella in the middle of a series I've read none of, or if the writing just... isn't great. And I'm kind of thinking the later. Some of the emotions and motivations of the main characters gave me total whiplash, and some other stuff with Lilja just didn't seem fully fleshed out or explained. And then the most confusing part, there are several chapters stuck in there that seem to randomly be flashes forward in the story, and then it returns to the sort of "current" storyline again for a chapter or two, then forward to the alternate timeline, then back. Expect the timeline is only, like, two weeks into the future, so it's not really clear if it's an intentional jump or if the chapters just somehow got printed out of order. Like, it's bad enough that I found myself checking which chapter I was on and flipping forward and back to make sure the chapter was, in fact, in the right order. It was just WEIRD and not well done and unnecessary. Setting that odd editing choice aside, the story is OK. There's not a whole lot THERE plotwise, and Lilja has some MAJOR stuff in her background that makes me wonder if she's featured heavily in other books in the series.

This is the first book I've read from Frost Kay and it’s actually a novella that’s part of the Aermian Feuds series but I read this without knowing anything about the series and I didn’t have any issues or struggles.

The story is very easy to follow and even though it was a short story, I got to have closure and satisfaction as a reader in terms of the plot, love interest and getting to know the characters.

I also love how empowering some of the words spoken by the main character that I got inspired to create an artwork out of it.

Definitely going to look into the series after this one.

I must of over looked the information about this book because I had no clue that this book was part of a series. I wasn't able to read it because I want to read the other books in the series first before I read this one. I can tell you that I loved the cover and the summary looked very interesting.

I truly loved the way this book unfolded.

The characters were unique and memorable. And the story was so fast paced and drew me in at the start.

I loved that this story really could stand on it's own. Taking maybe a tad here of there from some traditional fairy tales. But yet still keeping things new and exciting.

I couldn't put this one down.

I DNF'd it because I haven't read the other books in the series, which made me upset cause I'm sure I would have really enjoyed this one!

My Review: I am very hit and miss on novellas and this one just didn't work out at all. I loved the first story but this one just really felt choppy and not fully formed. In the long run, I don't think this one was really needed at all. This really just felt like it was to connect the two books and a few characters and that the story was very thin and just weird.

Go Into This One Knowing: She smells amazing when wet because the book says so!

I read this book after only having read Rebel's Blade, the first book of the Aermian Feuds. As far as I can tell, you could read this before any of the other books as it mostly is just the same world and doesn't really have anything to do with anything.

That last sentence summarizes the book pretty well. Nothing really happens in the book. After the mess that was Rebel's Blade's "plot," this didn't really surprise me as it was much in the same style. Despite being a novella where the author was l

I would like to thank Renegade Publishing, LLC and Netgalley for this partnership.

There is Vengeance, which has never been so beautiful, and Hayjen, who did not believe in myths and other stories until the day he met them. Vengeance is a pirate captain, she wants to destroy Scythia but she will find herself in the sea and will save a man, revealing a well-worn secret.

I loved this book with the very engaging characters, a captivating story full of suspense and twists and turns, looking forward to the series coming out in complete edition.

I gave this book 3.5 stars. Those that know me know that I have an obsession with sirens and mermaids and that I really just want a really good book starring these mythical creatures.

While this was well written and I enjoyed it, it wasn’t perfect. What I also failed to realize was that this is a novella in the middle of a series and so I probably didn’t understand the full extent of the world.

Because It was in the middle of a series, I feel like I didn’t care as much for the characters as I should have. I have no clue if these same characters are even present in the rest of the novels, but I’m just going to go out on a limb here and assume that that is true.

From the perspective of someone who has read none of the other books, however, I would say that this is a pretty good novella, especially if you do like sirens/mermaids.

Rating 3/5

I was really excited for this as it was a prequel to a series I haven't read yet and includes mermaids/sirens! However, I was flat out disappointed in the lack of a story in this. I get that it was a prequel, but seeing as especially as I haven't read the series yet, it did not leave me wanting to continue ahead with the rest of the books. This had no substance, no plot, no character development (even a small one) - nothing happens to be frank.

I did not realize this was part of an already established series but I did enjoy it. I love the concept of mermaids and thats what drew me to this . The story was well written but at times seemed overwhelming and hard to understand. I found the characters were likeable and developed. although at times the plot was a bit confusing. I plan on reading the rest of the series and I imagine that would provide more context for this book. A good read and definitely 4 out of 5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!

Like everyone else on here it seems, I went into this thinking it was stand-alone and was pretty confused about a lot of the world building. If I had read the other books in the series I think it would have made a lot more sense and possibly the time jumps wouldn't have seemed so all over the place. I did enjoy the writing style and the plot was certainly intriguing but I think I would have enjoyed it more as an addition to a series.

I also felt like Hayjen had a bit of a hero complex, sacrificing himself for the other slaves and them all fawning over him for being their protector. That was a bit weird. And so was the fact that Lilja cried when she was talking about her past but Blair didn't. Lilja seemed like a kick-ass character and there's no reason she can't be that and also cry about her past but in comparison to Blair in that moment it seemed a little like the author was making the male characters Strong and Emotionless and the female characters Weak and Prone to Tears.

Overall wasn't really for me but I'd consider checking out the series.

First of all, I am a mermaid fanatic. Truly. So reading the bio for this I was instantly drawn to it.

Like many others, I was unaware that this was part of a series that I'd never read and so it was quite a shock to the system when I was thrown into a world with no context. I felt the novella was difficult to follow in places and really struggled at the beggining to immerse myself due to the time hopping.

That being said, the novella itself was well written and I think if you are a fan of the series or have read the other book, this will be just as enjoyable as any other Frost Kay novel.

I really enjoyed the style of writing but just wish I'd read the others beforehand! It was however an enjoyable read without this prior knowledge.

My only real critique would be the time hopping situation - it does get a little confusing knowing where we are in the story which can take away a little from the great writing.

Nothing better than a prequel! That little bit of insight and background is always a wonderful addition to the story. This book was short and fast-paced, providing just enough background for the characters you already know to make you all that much more interested in them without weighing down the characters with unnecessary information.

I have never heard of this series until now. I loved this book! I now want to read the rest of the series. The characters in this book were well rounded and believable. The world and the conflict were well constructed.
