I really liked the storyline, the intrigue, it kept me reading to find out exactly what happened. The mystery, the murders were really good. Getting to that point was sometimes hard tho.
I liked Colt just fine, intelligent, handsome and honorable.
I didn't like Misty, come on now, she wasn't sheltered, she went to college and if it was in Norman, OK, it was OU not OSU as that's in Stillwater, OK, beside the fact, it's not easy to get into that college, so why was she so backward or hick sounding.
Personally, I like strong characters so the book isn't great for me. I think with a bit more tweaking, it could be so much better and a bit more fast-paced to keep the reader flipping pages.

“Hot Target Cowboy” is a fast-paced romance with twists, turns, and danger that will keep you on your toes. At times, the romance between Misty and Colt feels fast as well, but we did meet them in the first story of this series… so maybe not as fast as it appears. Besides, when you know you’ve found the one, you just know.

Trouble seems to follow Misty and her family around like an unwanted stalker and it’s not long before her world falls apart. Colt is right there to hold the pieces together until she can stand on her own again… or stand with him.

There are dangers and unseen enemies to be dealt with before this couple can find a happy ending. I enjoyed stepping back into this world again. If you can believe in a fast falling in love and watching two people find their way to each other through a mess of trouble, then you’d enjoy this story.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Colt is the oldest son born into a ranching family, he takes his responsibility for caring for his brothers and the livestock very serious. Unable to turn his back on anyone who needs help, Colton finds himself falling in love quickly with his neighbor. His neighbor, Misty, has trouble following her and brings it to Colt’s doorstep. A handsome, strong, animal lover who will fight for his love and protect her and hers until he can’t fight anymore. He fell head over heels for Misty and cannot wait to make her his.

Misty has a tons of trouble that shes unaware of, only after death strikes her family twice does she give into Colt and come stay with him. Reaching rock bottom, Misty pulls herself together and finds a way to get back into the work force, society, and falling in love with Colt. Misty is young, inexperienced, and trying to mom to her brother. Working her way into the Dalton family proves to be a little rougher than she expected, her family name works against her and makes many people doubt her.

Hot Target Cowboy is a very quick paced novel that has murder, secrets, romance and some spice. The plot has a few twist and turns but is easy to follow along with; the characters are well developed and relatable. Some readers could find the comments between Misty and Colt a little cheesy, but it does make for a sweet romance. The suspense seems like true small town suspense gone wrong. This novel could easily be recommended for someone who likes a tame romance based on suspense and family.

I really enjoyed the first book so I was looking forward to the continuation of the series.

Unfortunately, I was not a fan of this book. I tried, I really did. But I was rolling my eyes when the couple had sex on the first day they met.

My biggest issue was Misty. She's a freaking moron. Here's my problem...

Misty went to school to be a librarian right? OK.

She had to drop out because of her father failing health. Yup, sure.

Her brother does this whole creepy foreshadowing of his own death (not a spoiler, happens early in the book) along with a warning she tells the sheriff about BUT when she finds a weapon and hidden photos while cleaning out her late brothers bedroom AND the photos include a boy who went missing around the time they were taken....and this chick doesn't put ANY of that together. ugh. Has she never read a mystery before?

Filing this heroine under To Stupid To Live.

There were some good points but not enough for me to recommend this book to anyone. Sorry. I'll read the next book cause I like Beau but I won't be rushing out to get it.

Wow, I love this series. This is the second book in the series. It is Colt and Misty's story. Misty has been through alot and when she is in danger Cold is the man that she needs to protect her. This is a romantic suspense with wonderful characters. I would definitely recommend this book and this series

Hot Target Cowboy is the first book I have read written by June Faver. It is the second book in the Garrett Brothers Series but I had no problem following the story line. This is a cowboy knight out to save a damsel story.

Much of the story line is interesting with suspense, mystery, romance, drama and family. Colt Garrett and Misty Dalton have contrasting family. Besides the financial differences there is also differences in the dynamics of the relationships within. It is an instant attraction, soon love romance. In many ways Colt and Misty fit. Colt is a take charge man and Misty is a woman who lets him do just that.

I prefer stronger female leads in stories than Misty. Much is said about her trying to keep everything going on the family ranch but I saw little of what she could actually do. More development of her character with a sense of strength would have help me to enjoy the story much more.

I liked the idea in general and I thought the suspense part was handled really well but the main characters just didn't do it for me. They often did or said things that didn't really work with how they were developed and I really thought the dad was a bit disappointing. The writing seemed a bit ... adolescent, maybe, too which was awkward to read. And I'm probably taking it harder as an Okie, but the fact that the story has Oklahoma State not in Stillwater but in Norman (home of The University of Oklahoma) bothered me since the only research needed was a simple Google search. It may just be a new author trying to find her legs and I enjoyed what I read enough to keep an eye on Faver to see how she develops.

Overall this was a pretty good story, It is well written and has characters that are memorable and well developed. It is a small town romance with some mystery and suspense mixed in. The storyline is enjoyable although at times I felt it was extremely predictable. Also, I found Colton overbearing while Misty seemed naive and weak. Still there was enough going on in the story to keep me reading.

This is the second book in the series but I didn't feel lost by not having read the first book. In the end I'd give this one 3.5 stars and I would recommend.

Family, Love and Suspense...this book has it all. The story of Colton Garrett and Misty Dalton will break your heart and give you joy at the same time. This book is a suspenseful page turner. Kudos to June Faver for providing us with such a wonderful read.

Colt Garrett is known around this part of Texas as a wealthy, well know rancher. And he's been hit with an overwhelming need to be with Misty Dalton. So she may be younger than him but there is just something about the girl that hit him square in the heart.

The only problem is that pain seems to be following Misty and her little brother wherever they go and Big Jim, Colt's father doesn't like it one bit. He feels like Misty is playing his son and if he has anything to do with it, he'll make sure she doesn't get her claws into his first born son's flesh.

But Big Jim is wrong. Misty doesn't even know if Colt likes her like that. All she's concerned about is how she's going to survive taking care of her little brother and herself after all the tragedy that has come in her path the past few days.

If you love Insta-Love stories, you'll love Hot Target Cowboy. Intertwined with a who done it story line, this was an enjoyable quick read. I loved the interaction with the family and how Colt looked out for Misty from the start. It was by first read from June Faver and I'll be sure to pick up the rest of the books in the series although the books can be read as standalones.

Hot Target Cowboy by June Faver
Dark Horse Cowboys #1

Colton Garrett and Misty Dalton star in the first book of this series as Misty falls on hard times and Colton steps in to ease her situation. Misty and her younger brother are holding on by the skin of their teeth as she cares for her dying father and deals with her older less than responsible brother. When her brother is killed, her farm may be lost and murders begin to take place there is more than romance on the mind of Misty as she finds safe haven under Colton’s wing. Of course there are nay sayers and problems but this story ends happily for most of those involved. There is a sense of family, caring, community and doing the right thing that runs throughout this book and I expect it will continue as the series unfolds. There is a bit of church and religion in the book – just a heads up for those who might want to know. I am hoping that the editors will pick up that O+ is NOT the universal donor but O- is….

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This book was very much a damsel in distress read with a sexy cowboy coming to her rescue to save her and her family farm. Was it love at first sight or does Colt just like to help others? This is book two of the Dark Horse Cowboys Series but the first one for me and the first book by this author. I enjoyed the story but felt it could have gone deeper into the characters and I also felt the characters and the story were not very relatable to real life sometimes. There was a bit of a mystery that was interesting but could have been better.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a sweet romance some times I found it a little hard to follow it didn't have that great a flow but overall it was a sweet story that had me interested

This is the story of Misty and Colton. He is a hard working cowboy who comes from one of the local great families She is a struggling woman who is having to sell her horses to pay for her fathers medical bills and it looks like they may lose the ranch as well. Colton gets the chance to step up and be her hero but will that be enough for her to trust him.

A gorgeous, rich, hard-working, kind and compassionate cowboy, literally bumps into a damsel in distress and it is love at first sight. Romance and a murder mystery with an intriguing plot written in a riveting narrative. Characters are skillfully developed and engaging.

This is the first book that I have read from this author, missing the first book in the series, but the author quickly catches up the reader in the first chapter. Colton Garrett is the oldest son the Garrett boys. He works hard, saved his money and despite all the women who have thrown themselves at him, has never at twenty-eight meet anyone who he would want to make his wife, until he crashes into Misty Dalton at the auction barn and is immediately smitten. While both Colton's father and Misty's father were ranch owners, who had buried their wives and had had to raise their children on their own, Big Jim Garrett had step up, while Arnold Dalton had turned to alcohol. Now Arnold was dying and the Daltons are about to lose their ranch. But something is a foot, and after Misty's brother, Joe is murdered and her father dies later that night, Colton brings Misty and her young brother, Mark to the Garrett ranch. Colton's father and younger brother, Beau accuse Misty of being a gold digger, but Colton knows what his heart knows and will protect her and Mark as more mysteries, murders and mayhem occur.

I received a free, advanced copy of this wonderful book from NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

This was an enjoyable story. That drew me in and easily held my interest. As the characters all very likable, especially the main two Colton and Misty. Who did make a nice couple, even if their romance was very quick to happen and a little underwhelming.

As for the story, it was well paced and sweet. Not to mention a little suspenseful and that's what I enjoyed the most, and what really kept me engaged and reading. And I'm looking forward to reading more from this series in the future.

Book 2 of the Dark Horse Cowboys series, “Hot Target Cowboy” brings readers to the Texas panhandle where ranching continues to be a way of life. And as readers find out, not all ranchers and ranches are created equal.

Just like everywhere else, there are those who are successful, and there are those who are not. There are also rich ranchers and poor ranchers. That is where Colt Garrett and Misty Dalton stood. Coming from a poor ranching family on the verge of bankruptcy, her relationship with the rich Colt Garrett can be misconstrued as an opportunistic move on her part.

But Colt and Misty could not worry about that with the deadly threat on Misty and her family.

Short, sweet and easy to read, “Hot Target Cowboy” is a feel-good read with a light touch of mystery and suspense. The book is Rated M for Mature due to violence and some sexual content.

**Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the ARC in exchange for an honest review**

3,5🌟🌟🌟!!! The storyline was well written!! It was really a heartwarming, sweet read, although sometimes it was too predictable for me!! Despite that I really enjoyed it!!

This is the second in the Dark Horse Cowboy series but can easily be read as a standalone.

Alongside the story of Colton and Misty on their journey to an HEA, there are some mysterious things happening on Misty's family property all of which should be enough to engage the reader.

However, I found it really difficult to connect with this book and at some points I thought I wouldn't finish it. I can't even pinpoint what was missing that made me feel this way.

Despite this I continued to the end to discover that all the mysteries are solved and Misty and her younger brother are fully welcomed into the Garrett family.

This one was not for me!
