This was very much a rescue a damsel in distress book. Colt is from a prominent family in the community and there has been a clear path laid out for him. For the most part, I liked Colt. He wanted to save Misty and her little brother from the moment he met them and knew they were in danger. There was plenty of action through the book.
I had issues with Misty. She is a sweet girl but sometimes I just wanted to scream at her to use her brain. She couldn't seem to work through an issue other than how to keep money away from her brother, without help. She was young so I am going to say I just didn't relate well to the character. I had major issues with Colt's father though. He was just rude.
Overall, it was a 3/5 for me.

3 1/2 Star Review.....
Hot Target Cowboy is the second book in June Faver’s Dark Horse Cowboys and is slightly better than book one. Once again I found the dialogue to be somewhat stilted at times and lacking the easy ebb and flow that keeps this readers attention. That said, the actual plot was good and even when the outcome of a particular scene was expected, it still managed to hold its own. So, while this hasn’t been one of my favourite series, I will definitely read the next book, simply because I need to know what lies ahead for the remaining Garrett brother.

This was a sweet story, though it was a little slow and predictable at times. I enjoyed reading it and will be waiting for the next in the series.
I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley.

3 1/2 to 4 stars...
Hot Target Cowboy is the second book in Faver’s Dark Horse Cowboy’s series and it centers on the eldest brother, Colton Garrett, and Misty Dalton, a young lady who was the younger sister of one of his younger brother’s friends from school. Although there were some instances in the book that I was not really fond of, overall it was an enjoyable story. Colton came from a prominent family in the area and had strong family ties and town connections whereas Misty came from a more troubled family with known financial struggles and they were looked down on by many.
This story was kind of an instant-love thing, wanting to take care of the damsel in distress and doing whatever it took, regardless of the consequences or how it affected others…kind of a headstrong, I am going to do what I want regardless attitude. For the most part, I liked Colton’s character. He was strong, smart, and dependable, with a take-charge attitude and had a kind disposition…basically the white knight. Misty, however, I struggled a bit more to like. She was younger, yes, but with all she had been through and the hand she was dealt in life, she should have been a bit more ‘adult’. I understand her being shy and reserved since she basically never left the ranch, taking care of her ailing father and seeing to her younger brother’s needs as well as trying to help keep the ranch running as best she could BUT, and this is kind of a big BUT she was extremely naïve and slightly dense to what was going on around her. She seemed more sheltered and unknowing than she should have. She should have had more involvement in the family ranch and what was going on, since it was her and her younger brother’s legacy too and even though she had to drop out of college, she was still smart enough to get a scholarship yet she seemed pretty dense about almost everything in life, like she knew nothing and knew how to do nothing and that just did not fit. Also, she was taking care of her father and little brother, even though there were a housekeeper and hospice help, yet again, she knew how to do nothing and knew nothing about what was going on with the finances or running the ranch. That just seemed like a far reach for me. She should have at least been able to prepare simple meals and know the basics of what was going on at their home, even though her older brother was in charge, she still should have had some knowledge. Getting around my problem with her, I did like the book.
There was plenty of family drama, unseen forces wreaking havoc, murder, mystery, suspense, and romance to overall hold my interest in the story and get me to the last page. If Misty’s character would have been more developed, I would have gladly given this book a 5-star rating, but with the parts I struggled to get by, I had to go with a 3 ½ to 4-stars overall. And even though this is the second book in the series, it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone.

Colt is the oldest son on the Garrett Ranch. Born and bred a rancher. One day he goes to look at some horses and sees a beautiful woman walk by him. She knows him, but he cannot pinpoint who she is. Thankfully, his brother, Beau, knows who she is and what's her name. That evening, he comes across the same girl, Misty, in a bar and gets her to dance with him.
He knows she is the one for him while Misty believes Colt is too good for her.
As the book progresses, Misty's father and older brother die. She is left with just her younger brother. Colt to the rescue again when he takes the two of them home with him. Too bad his father doesn't like or trust her.

This is my first book by this author. It can be read on its own.

I liked the concept of this story and felt that there was a lot of potential but the characters were fairly one dimensional and often didn't things that didn't make sense for the character background. I felt almost no connection to any of the characters
Misty was the main problem; the best ways for me to describe her is a helpless drip. For someone who is meant to have been intelligent enough to have gotten a full ride scholarship, she seems incapable of thinking for herself or putting basic things together. Having spent years looking after her dad and brothers, she can't cook and didn't seems to do anything else; once taken in by the Garrett's, Misty takes little notice of her brother leaving others to take care of him,
Cult - seemed to stay true to his motivation but to protect and care for his helpless little women or 'baby' as he took to calling Misty. I found it ironic that having promised to keep no secrets from each other he got annoyed at Misty for 'keeping secrets', ie not telling him her every thought, but happily didn't tell her that he wasn't able to complete his take at the bank because 'he didn't want to worry her'.
I also found the dad really annoying. I can get that he though she was a gold digger but then do be annoyed when she gets a job!
I personally won't be reading more of this series.
I received a copy of this book for free from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This is a must read. It is a lot of romance, a bad luck scenario, a lot of mystery, solving a cold case that was really a murder. One thing is certain there love is real.
I look forward to reading more from this author.

The story of Misty and Colton, who both live on ranches but one is struggling and one is doing well. An emotional read given all the events that happen throughout the book.

I received an arc from Netgalley. Misty and Colton meet at an auction and instantly have a connection. Even though Colton’s family is against his relationship with Misty these two fight for each other.
Lots of love and mystery in this book. You will not be disappointed.

Colt falls hard and fast for Misty Dalton. A woman a couple years younger than him.
She has come upon some very hard times and is trying to sort it out. Colt knows he wants her by his side so he is willing to go well above and beyond to help her. This books was very suspenseful.
I loved about 90% of this book but I had such a hard time dealing with Colt's dad and brothers attitude towards Misty. I'm not rich so maybe I don't understand the whole "everyone is a gold digger" mentality but it really bothered me. It definitely added to the story but I can't recall ever wanting to throat punch someone so badly.
I especially loved that even though Misty's world is being turned upside down, she is still very warm and kind.

Even though this was a big improvement from the first book in the series there were still moments, especially early on, where the dialog was stilted and did not flow smoothly. Some of the dialog was cliche, while other times improbable. The storyline did hold my attention, even though at times it was obvious where the tension and suspense were leading. I will read the next installment in the series in order to complete each of the Garrett brothers’ stories.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Hot Target Cowboy is another great read by June Faver! The story this time is about older brother Colton. There's lots of action, twists and turns. The story involves not only falling in love, but solving a few murder mysteries along the way. June Faber is a wonderful storyteller, this is the second book I've read by Ms. Faver.

"Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review."
Loved this book very much. It had just enough sweet romance and the storyline was great! I highly recommend!

Loved Colton and Misty’s first meeting in the dance hall. I just wanted her to stay that fiesty. She became a bit of a damsel in distress. However, the climax was fantastic when she gathered all that strength to survive. Colton was a sweet guy and I loved that he always wanted to take care of her. Now I’m ready for Beau to find his woman ( hope it’s the tough firefighter woman from the rescue unit!) But first I have to go read Ty’s story.

Once again the Garrett's have touched my heart. Colt knows right away that Misty is the girl he will marry. He has tunnel vision when it comes to her. I loved, Hot Target Cowboy.
