A nice follow up to Eastman's debut Kate LeClair novel. These fall somewhere to the side of a cozy as they feature an amateur detective with an interesting side job (she's a physician) solving crime in a small town with, in this case, a good relationship with local law enforcement. Katie finds herself wrapped into drama involving Eugene, newly released from prison where he was serving time for manslaughter, and also into the hunt for Taylor, a young woman who worked with her at the clinic. Who really killed the woman Gene claims he only found dead? Think past who you suspect at first. The mystery part of this is well done. I would have liked a tad more medicine and for someone to smooth some of the references to liquor and food (drinks and meals felt obligatory, as if someone said- these people must have cocktails and food!). Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This was a quick read but that was largely because I was engaged and wanted to know who did it!

Somehow I missed the first in this new series which surprised me because I have read her other series and enjoyed it. Now to get my hands on the previous mystery. Do No Harm works well as a stand alone. I had no trouble following all of the characters and their back stories. Each was well drawn and were people I felt I would like to know.
Katie has her hands full with her clinic schedule taking a hit now that they are without one of the doctors. She manages to juggle patients with the help of her staff but one patient focuses on her after she cares for him and shows him kindness and respect. Eugene has just been released from prison after serving 10 years for manslaughter, a crime he says he didn't commit. When he is beaten up, more than once, he seeks help from Katie for more than medical care. She isn't eager to get involved in a closed case or any case, for that matter but fate forces her hand when the young woman who had been shadowing her at the clinic goes missing. Concerned, Katie asks around when she finds out that she may have been the last person to have seen her alive. When she turns up murdered, the connection is made between the two deaths and Katie, along with her brother, Caleb and her boyfriend, Matt, start to track down the real killer.
Katie isn't one of those amateur sleuths who think they know more than the local police. Baxter is a small town but it has a very good police chief and he respects Katie's intelligence - they get along well. That was refreshing. The small town setting was well developed and the mystery was complicated enough to keep me engaged. So much so that I read it in one sitting. I will be adding the next mystery in this series to my must read list.

Do No Harm by Dawn Eastman is the second book in her Dr. Katie LeClair Mystery series. This story finds Katie with a new patient who has just recently been released from prison and returned home. He had been incarcerated for the death of a young woman on a college campus. He insists he did not kill her. His doctor visit is due to injuries he received from being attacted by someone who doesn't want him back in town. Katie, along with her boyfriend Dr. Matt Gregor, decide to look into what happened on that college campus years ago because they believe Katie's patient is innocent.

This is a well-written story with a well-thought-out plot. I enjoyed following Katie's thought process as she worked on unravelling what really happened to the dead college student as well as the student Katie recently befriended who was looking into the same case for her sociology class. Lots of action and suspense in this book!

An exciting and entertaining mystery.
I loved the well written characters and the plot.
The mystery was fast paced and it kept me guessing till the end.
I look forward to reading other books in this series.

Book two in this series finds Katie helping a young man recently released from prison as well as searching for a college aged woman that was investigating his case before going missing. I didn’t find this book as well done as the first. Katie is a newly minted GP and it continues to beggar belief that she spends so much of her time investigating possible crimes.

I enjoy the characters in this series. Eastman does get the whole small town feel right - the lack of privacy, the constant gossip.

The plot is fairly predictable and I had a feeling where it was going from early on. This is more of a cozy mystery. Fun book but nothing earth shattering.

My thanks to netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for an advance copy of this book.

Dr. Katie LeClair’s second adventure finds her trying to help Eugene Lowe, recently returned to his home in Baxter, after serving a prison sentence for manslaughter. Someone doesn’t want Eugene back and is harassing him, including physically attacking him.

Taylor Knox, a University of Michigan student who interned with Katie, is reported missing and Katie finds out she was investigating the murder Eugene Lowe was convicted of as part of her college sociology class. Interesting plotline, Taylor believed that Eugene had been unjustly convicted and was determined to prove it before she disappeared.

Naturally there are lots of twists and misleading clues making this an interesting read. Author Dawn Eastman has created an engaging group of characters, realistic dialogue and situations, all moving at a strong, steady pace.

Dr. Katie is back in this second of the series.

Katie is loving her new job and house, not to mention a maybe new love.

It's Halloween in the small town of Baxter, Michigan and Katie has just met Eugene, recently released from prison for a murder he says he did not commit. But as the town readies itself for their Halloween Festival, her patient goes missing and a college student who was looking into Katie's old murder case is found dead.

Again, Katie trades in her doctors coat for her sleuth hat and tries to find the truth while staying alive.

I have to say I was a bit confused. The blurb stated this was for fans of Ellison and Gerritsen. It was not. As a fan of both I would say this was more of a cozy mystery than thriller. That being said it was enjoyable and easily stood alone if you haven't read the first one. Katie is a very interesting character.

Dr Katie LeClair mystery Do No Harm is a harmless mystery (okay I couldn’t help myself) which is the second in a series. I did not read the first one and this is also the first I have read by this author.

It doesn’t hinder your reading and understanding if you have not read the first book in the series and I think that therein might lie the reason why this book doesn’t stand out. It’s a nice enough story and I guess it’s a mystery even though it is fairly obvious who the killer is almost as soon as they appear in the story.

Even though it was an easy read it still took me longer than anticipated to finish the book and that’s probably because I just wasn’t that interested in the characters. Again they are nice enough but just not special enough to keep your interest.

I won’t be recommending this book but thank NetGalley for letting me read this advance copy in exchange for my unbiased review. I rate it 2 stars

This is my first time reading Eastman's work and I have to say I'm definitely a FAN!
Do No Harm is beautifully written and has a well thought out plot that keeps readers intrigued
It was only after I started reading that I realised that this is actually the second book in a series featuring Dr. Katie LeClair. Even though I hadn't read the first book, I wasn't lost or confused as the author did a great job of putting in enough information from the back story but not ruining it for you to go and read that book!
It can easily be read as a standalone mystery
The story is written perfectly, it draws you in and I seriously could not put it down I wanted to solve the mystery along with the protagonist
I never felt bored or like the story slowed at all and it kept me guessing til the end.
I enjoyed it

Can he really be innocent? Dr Katie LeClair is new in town and she is loving her new job at the Baxter Family Medicine office, she is making friends and seeing another doctor. She is just about to see a new patient Eugene Lowe and she doesn't believe his story of walking into a door but she is here to fix him up. She feels something strange about this quiet man but she just can't put her finger on it. The office staff tell her all about Eugene and about his history. He has just been releases from prison after servicing time for murder. So when a young woman goes missing the town thinks that it is Eugene as she was seen at his house. Katie knows that she has to find out where Taylor is. Katie knows that Taylor just wouldn't just go off she isn't that type of girl. So Katie has no choice but to start digging into Eugene's past. What she finds makes her question everything about the murder and why Taylor was so interested in the murder and Eugene. Katie doesn't believe that Eugene had anything to do with her disappearance. Will Katie with the help of others be able to find Taylor before it is too late? Will she be able to find out the truth about the murder and why everyone thought that it was Eugene. Someone doesn't want Katie to find the truth and they will do whatever it takes to scare her off but it just makes her even more determine to find out the truth. Will the truth come out so that Eugene will be able to live the life that was stolen from him? A really good read. Kept on turning the pages to see what was coming next. Katie is a very determined woman that will always dig for the truth even if it means putting herself in harm's way. I really hope that her brother's app takes off. Her & Matt make a really good team can't wait to see what happens there. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.

Dr. Katie LeClair returns in DO NO HARM for another exciting mystery. Her new patient, Eugene, has just returned to town after serving 10 years for manslaughter of a young woman, and he and his mother are being threatened and harassed. Another young woman goes missing. Even though she was reportedly trying to prove his innocence, he comes under suspicion. Enjoyable page-turner!

He's been beaten up and ends up in the emergency room. Katie checks him out, patches him up, and asks him what happened and finds out he just got out of jail. It seems some of the locals still think he's guilty even though he denies it and has served his sentence. When she offers to be his doctor, she doesn't imagine it will put her in the middle of murder...

Crooked Lane Books and Net Galley allowed me to read this book for review (thank you). It will be published December 11th.

People are stalking him. A young high schooler dies because she is looking into his case and believes he's innocent. They try to pin that on him again. He's got Katie on his side but it's hard to prove who did it. There doesn't appear to be any clues.

Her patient disappears. When he returns he comes to her house for protection. She convinces him to talk to the cops. Then his old girlfriend and her child come up missing. And he's on the run again.

Is he innocent or guilty? As Katie investigates she finds some facts that seem to support his innocence. But then who did it?

This was a convoluted complex case that kept my attention the whole way through the book. Did you know who the killer was before the end?

Katie is once again in the middle of a mystery but will she find out the right answers in time or will she believe the wrong people? With the help of her friends, brother, and boyfriend the answers might be discovered before more people die. This book was fun, interesting, and full of surprises. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write about it NetGalley.

medical-doctor, amateur-sleuth, women-sleuths, suspense

A young man is released from prison where he's spent the last ten years after being convicted of manslaughter of a college student after a frat party. He has always maintained his innocence, but few people believed him. Now cowards are wearing masks and assaulting him at night, which is how Dr Katie becomes involved. Add in a current college student who is studying the case intent on discovering proof of his innocence when she goes missing and is presumed dead. Follow Dr Katie as she becomes enmeshed in the mess and all sorts of other things as well. It's a twisty, convoluted story with some great characters and no lack of suspense. Truly a good read!

In this second novel by Dawn Eastman, Do No Harm is back following Dr. Katie LeClair and trying to solve another town mystery where a college student, Taylor, goes missing, which happens to be her former med student. Could she be dead? She went missing shortly after seeing Katie. Taylor was writing a research paper for school and was investigating an old mystery where a man named Eugene, supposedly killed a girl named Heather, years before and he was just released from 10 years in prison and is now back in town. Could the two cases have anything to do with one another? Could Eugene be involved again? This is what Katie is trying to figure out.
I found this book to be an easy read. I like the author’s writing style very much and enjoyed the first novel. The author does a nice job giving the backstory of the first novel, so this could very much read as a standalone. Besides my opinion of questioning how a doctor has time to do all that investigating and figuring everything out and even giving the town police information they didn’t have to help solve the case is hard to believe. However, it is a fast pace and somewhat predictable, but a nice easy mystery read.

DO NO HARM is the second in the Dr Le Clair mystery series but my first read. I found it easy to follow as a stand alone but feel having read this in a day, that I will certainly be going back to No. 1 and keeping a look out for future instalments! I loved the whole Jessica Fletcher stance, although in this case a small town Doctor solving a mystery, I kinda figured out the perpetrator so it came as no surprise but it didn’t take away from it. Quick easy read, perfect for those that love a good mystery.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

DO NO HARM, the second book in the Dr. Katie LeClair mystery series, is a well written book of suspense and small town life. It can easily be read as a standalone mystery. Eastman does a good job of giving readers plenty of back story without ruining the mystery of the first book in the series. The story is compelling and the pace steady, keeping me glued to the pages, reading the entire book in one sitting.

Small town doctor Katie LeClair finds herself in the middle of an investigation when a local college student goes missing shortly after speaking with Katie. Could her disappearance have anything to do with the paper she was researching about a local murder that happened many years ago? Coincidentally, or maybe not, the man who went to jail for the crime has been paroled and is Katie’s new patient. Is it all tied together?

I like Katie. She is intelligent and resourceful. Her brother Caleb and her love interest Dr. Matt are enjoyable, and the three make a good investigative team. The characters are well developed and engaging. The mystery is interesting, if a little predictable, and satisfying even though the ending feels a little rushed.

I enjoyed DO NO HARM and recommend it to any mystery reader.

I received a copy of this title through NetGalley and voluntarily shared my thoughts here.

Katie LeClair found a small town in Michigan to open her medical practice, but the quiet life she hoped for didn’t emerge. She’s survived an attack and the murder of one of her patients, but things get dicey again when she gets a new patient who has just been released from prison. He claims he was wrongly convicted of murder and then disappears. When a college student is found dead, Katie is worries that her new patient may be the killer. As Halloween approaches, residents of Baxter are on edge, and for good reason. Can Katie solve a murder and prove a man’s innocence? Realistic characters and settings create a series that readers will love

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book - i found it suspensful and with an excellent plot and characters. I did not realize that this book was # 2 in a series but I don't think that that hindered my enjoyment of this novel in any way. I have not read anything before by Dawn Eastman but I look forward to. I think she is an excellent author.

If I could have squeezed a few more hours in the day I'm sure I would have read it in one day. I absolutely loved this book. A doctor who can't resist solving mysteries...not just the medical kind! 💜
