Small-town doctor Katie LeClair is drawn back into an old murder investigation, a mysterious disappearance, and a dark undercurrent of violence.

The idyllic town of Baxter, Michigan, seemed like the perfect place for Dr. Katie LeClair to settle down after years toiling in medical school—until the murder of a patient shattered the peace she had found. Now on the mend and balancing the responsibilities of a new house and the joys of a new romance, Katie is finally ready to start enjoying life. But danger arrives just as the town is gearing up for its annual Halloween festival—and once again, this doctor-turned-sleuth will have to unmask a killer in their midst.

Trouble comes in threes this Halloween. Katie sees a new patient who has just been released from prison for a murder he says he didn’t commit. Inexplicably, the patient suddenly goes missing. And matters take an even more sinister turn when a college student who had been investigating Katie’s old murder case is found dead in the woods near Baxter.

In the information from NetGalley, I found out that this book was the second in a series about this detective. I was a little disappointed that this was the second because I felt like some information was missing.

This isn’t a difficult read, pretty quick to get through. The overall story concept sounded interesting and I figured it’d be a good book. There were a lot of twists and turns along the way which supports the thriller genre.

The reality of the story seems a bit far fetched. I don’t know any full time practicing doctor who has extra time to go investigate something, when she needs to be working at her practice. Not to mention, she outsmarts law enforcement. While doctors are smart, some bits of the story weren’t plausible.

It was an okay read. This will do great on beaches or in airports, but I don’t anticipate this to be the next greatest hit.

Dr. Katie LeClair has settled nicely in to her practice in Baxter, Michigan. Her relationship with Dr. Matt Gregor is progressing nicely and she and her brother, Caleb, are settled in their new home. She should have known that life was going too smooth when her new patient, Eugene, shows signs of abuse. Eugene was just recently released from prison and it seems as if someone is trying to run him out of town. Vandalism at his home has gradually progressed to more serious acts. Who wants him out of town? Who does he think is following him? Meanwhile, Taylor, a young med student that Katie was mentoring goes missing. Taylor was checking in to a murder that happened ten years ago, believing that the wrong person was convicted and that the real murderer is still out there. Could she have been talking about Eugene’s conviction? This is an enjoyable small-town mystery with a killer who is hiding in plain sight. Will Katie be able to put the pieces together or will she be the next target? I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

Do No Harm by Dawn Eastman is Mystery Suspense Fiction, with Medical interest and a little Romance.. This was my second Dawn Eastman mystery with Dr. Katie LeClair, the books are stand alone. I love the fast pace combined with methodical thinking. The setting is again in small town Michigan and practically everyone is town is involved in this murder mystery. I really enjoyed reading this book, tried to slow down but it was just too good. I will be looking for more books by Dawn Eastman. My thanks to the author, Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley for allowing me to read, enjoy and review this exceptional book.

I would like to thank Crooked Lane Books and the Netgalley website for this partnership.

I was immediately attracted to the blanket: Katie can be seen in profile in the forest.

He's a doctor in a small town who gets dragged into an old murder investigation. The story takes place in Baxter, Michigan during Halloween when Katie just moved in. She's going to have to expose this killer among the people in disguise.

A book read in one go so much I hooked on the captivating story and filled with suspense and twists and turns.

Do No Harm isn't the most innovative mystery novel I've ever read, but I found myself enjoying it immensely regardless.

It was only after I started reading that I realized that this is actually the second book in a series featuring the protagonist of Dr. Katie LeClair. Despite the fact that I hadn't read the first book, I wasn't lost or confused at all as Dawn Eastman did a great job of catching the reader up on the events from the previous story.

Dr. LeClair is working in the small Michigan town of Baxter when she starts seeing a new patient, Eugene, who was recently released from prison after serving a sentence for manslaughter. Upon his release, Eugene finds himself being harassed by locals and ultimately finds himself as the prime suspect in the disappearance of another girl who was investigating the case that sent him to prison a decade before. Dr. LeClair sets her sights on figuring out what happened to the missing girl and what, if any, connection Eugene has to both women.

The mystery wraps up in a rather predictable fashion, but I still enjoyed reading along to the inevitable conclusion. I always enjoy the cast of characters that are found in any small town setting and this group of people was no exception. There were plenty of side characters that were fleshed out quite nicely and that added some extra personality to the otherwise relatively basic plot.

I will be going back to read the first book in this series and will more than likely continue if a third is written.

I received this ARC as a courtesy from NetGalley & the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Do No Harm – Dawn Eastman.

This is my first time reading Eastman's work and I have to say I'm definitely a FAN!

Do No Harm follows a doctor that moves to a Michigan town to live and work. Once there she is thrown into dangerous situations that require her to become detective. This is not the first time she's had to 'work' a murder case. Something is right and Katie soon learns she might be the reason behind the murder.

Do No Harm is beautifully written and has a well thought out plot that keeps readers intrigued.

This is my first book by this author. I liked the main character, Katie LeClair, and the plot was interesting. Overall it was an easy read and I will be looking for more from Dawn Eastman.

I enjoyed this book, but it seemed to have to many storylines going on that left more to be developed. I did like the premise of Dr Katie LeClair trying to solve the mystery on her own, but then it would jump to her medical clinic and then to a community activity she was involved in that seemed to not belong. Perhaps, as the series goes along we will learn more about some of the quirky characters that were thrown in. Taylor, the 2nd victim in the story really needed to be fleshed out some more. This book is written in first person, so my expectations maybe too high in wanting the perspective of all the characters.

Do No Harm is a very good suspense. I enjoyed the plot and characters. I have not read other books in the series but certainly will be checking into them. Couldn’t put this book down. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.

This author definitely knows how to write suspense! I've read other books from this author she is very enjoyable. So when I saw this book available I jumped at the chance. Dr. Katie LeClair works at a small family clinic in Michigan. This is the second book in the series featuring Katie, but it reads good as a stand-alone. The author provides enough character development and backstory to let you know what’s going on. This is an exciting, quick read. There are lots of plot twists and misdirection that definitely keep you guessing until the very end. I would recommend this book to fans of mysteries and thrillers.

Do No Harm by Dawn Eastman is the 2nd in this series however it reads as a stand-alone novel as well as the fact that the author does a great job at giving the backstory so that the reader can follow along. Eugene Lowe has been released from prison after serving 10 years for a manslaughter charge. He goes back to his small hometown to live with his mother. He visits a Dr once home to remove some sutures he had and finds out that she does not know who he is or his past as she is new to the town. Her name is Katie LeClair. Dr. LeClair later finds out that one of her friends/med students had gone missing. Eugene’s name has popped onto the radar because the student was researching Eugene’s murder accusation. Now another body has turned up. Does Eugene have something to hide? This story plays out with the author making it an easy read and is.Gripping the whole time. You will NOT want to put this one down. I cannot understand why others have only given one or two stars but I give it a 5 out of 5.

Thanks to netgalley as well as the author/publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Do No Harm by Dawn Eastman. Not so much a suspenseful mystery and a bit slow moving. Likeable character and a easy to read writing style. Dr LeClair is still evolving as a detective; would be interested in writing more of the series.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Eugene Lowe returns to his mother and childhood home after having served a 10 year prison sentence for manslaughter. Eugene was always considered a little off-beat and had done a few questionable things in the past.
He went to visit Dr. Katie LeClair for suture removal. He likes and trusts her.

Later that same day, Katie finds out from her best friend, Gabrielle, that one of Katie's former med students went missing. Katie feels awful; she had really liked Taylor Knox. Taylor had just met with Katie on Sunday and had seeked Katie's advice on "someone who had gotten away with a serious crime".

Eugene was/is in love with Alicia (now married to Nathan and with a child). Eugene goes back to stalking Alicia after prison. Nathan is gently reminded, by Police Chief Carlson, that Eugene has paid for his crime and that there is no justification to now heckle or hurt him.

Matt (Katie's boyfriend), Katie, Gabrielle & Russell (Gabrielle's latest boyfriend) go out for drinks and darts. Both Matt and Katie are not overly impressed with Russell - a professor at Ann Arbor.

Heather (who Eugene had been imprisoned for murdering) died about 10 years ago and there seems to be a common thread between the missing Taylor and Heather's murder.

We find out more about Professor Russell Hunt, the hothead Nathan, Alicia and her daughter, and Caleb (Katie's brother). Background information begins to gel. The characters intertwine as the reader continues to shift the blame for both Heather's death and Taylor's disappearance.....

Matt and Katie are on the town's Halloween Day Parade planning committee......

And just wait until Halloween.....

I stopped reading this book in the middle of Chapter 4. While I think there is an interesting story in this book, the writing was too much of the "telling mode" rather than "showing mode" for my taste.

Silly plot, poor characterization, holes in story, poor writing. I do not recommend this novel. Nothing of interest here.

Dr. Katie LeClair works at a small family clinic in Michigan. This is the second book in the series featuring Katie, but it reads good as a stand-alone. The author provides enough character development and backstory to let you know what’s going on. After reading this book I am intrigued to read the first installment in this series as well.

At the beginning of the story Katie treats a patient that peaks her interest. Eugene is known around town because he was locked up for manslaughter for a little over a decade. Katie, however, knows nothing about his past because she is new in town. What seems strange about Eugene is that his story doesn’t quite add up to the clinical picture that Katie is presented with. She questions her partner (and boyfriend) Matt about it because he treated Eugene the previous week. Matt echoes her thoughts, and Katie feels the first inkling that there’s a lot more to Eugene than he is letting on. Being an advocate for her patients, Katie is worried about his safety, but also concerned that Eugene might be involved in sinister activities.

That night Katie learns that a local student that she has worked with named Taylor has gone missing. It seems that Taylor had uncovered new evidence related to Eugene’s original case. Katie feels a sudden sense of dread: she had given Katie some advice, and she can’t help but wonder if she is responsible for the girl’s disappearance. Suddenly these two stories are linked together and Katie decides to investigate a little deeper. Deception and dead ends meet Katie at every turn. It seems everyone has something to hide in this sleepy little town.

When another body turns up, Eugene naturally comes under suspicion. Katie has developed quite a rapport with Eugene. Anytime he feels as though he is in trouble or needs advice, Eugene seeks her out first. The same goes with Eugene’s mother. Katie feels obligated to continue on with her investigation, all the while keeping a shadow of doubt concerning Eugene’s possible role in everything.

This is an exciting, quick read. There are lots of plot twists and misdirections that definitely keep you guessing until the very end. I would recommend this book to fans of mysteries and thrillers. I received this as a free ARC from Crooked Lane Books on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
