While I do really enjoy mystery/thriller novels, this wasn't the ones I typically read, but in this instance that's a good thing. I got through this book in under twenty-four hours because it was so readable and I wanted to know if my suspicions were correct (they were). I enjoyed that the main character who was investigating this crime was a doctor rather than a detective because that route is easily found and more and more of the same. It was a unique twist that also helped hold my interest as we delved into her life instead of the book being entirely about the crime.

The writer did a great job making everything visual. I could picture everything from the napkins blowing on the table from the doors opening to Katie's dining area where her brother maintained a mess. I also really grew to love most of the characters which I find important in books, especially mysteries when they could be at risk.

I also really enjoyed that, despite it being the second in a series, I didn't have to read the first in order to understand a lot of the second (though I'm sure it would've given a lot more backstory). Things that occurred in the first book were mentioned in a way that filled me in with a few sentences rather than leaving me confused and lost.

I expected to enjoy the book, but I liked it a lot more than I'd even anticipated. It was an easy read with great characters and imagery. Assuming this series continues, I'd love to further read into Katie's tales.
