This book is filled with Photographs of Montauk. If you have traveled there the photographs will bring back wonderful memories. If you have not been enjoy this armchair journey. The photographs are a lot of fun. There is very little text. Enjoy

I would love to be able to pack my bags and travel on a whim, but I like most others cannot. SO I am an armchair traveler. Whether it be through Youtube, television, or my favorite books, I get to travel the world and learn about new places and see the good the bad and the ugly of these places. With Montauk 11954 I really seen no ugly and all beauty. This books features over 100 beautiful photos of Montauk. Montauk is on Long Islands south shore and is a get away spot for people in New York as well as vacation spot for people from around the world. The photos in this book gives you a personal tour of the area, and if you are like me will be sure to add this spot to your list of must see places.

Lovely picture book. Really liked the crab and squid photo’s. Looks like a nice place to relax and chill out.

I have been fascinated by Montauk ever since I saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Unfortunately, I have never been able to visit. Pelletri's book let me visit the coastal town vicariously. The pictures themselves are in a style similar to my own and I appreciated that.

This photobook is New York photographer Car Pelleteri’s second exploration of the seaside town Montauk after her 2014 Surf+Turf: Montauk. In contrast to the earlier book which included interviews with natives and locals, this most recent offering is almost exclusively image-based with only a short introduction by the photographer.

The book opens with a double spread of lush, overgrown vegetation set against the blue of the ocean. We will find this theme again in the book: rather than depicting the grand aspects of Montauk, Pelleteri chooses to focus instead on the humble and easily overlooked: some morning glory, a carpet of daisies, run-down motels and signs, surfboards propped up against a wooden fence. However, the elegant aspects of Montauk also make an appearance: glorious sunsets, hordes of people enjoying the beach. Amongst the images I absolutely loved were close-ups of fish, shiny squid, crab, lobster, the catch of the day. Another thing I liked about the book was Pelleteri’s choice to depict the place not only in glorious sunshine but in different weather conditions as well: the misty seascapes were particularly appealing.

Despite never having heard of Montauk before, by the end of the book I felt I had gained a keen sense of the place, so in that regard Pelleteri has been successful. Pictures of the place are interlaced with portraits of locals including a characterful biker wearing a Gaul’s helmet, Obelix-style. The subdued colour palette and consistent film look conveys a sense of nostalgia and timelessness that fits well with the project.

I have two criticisms of the book: photographically, I would have liked a few more dynamic images. Perhaps that’s me: I like movement in pictures. The other criticism concerns the amount of background information included in the book; I’d have liked a meatier introduction explaining in more detail Pelleteri’s connection to the place. What is it about Montauk Pelleteri finds compelling? Why choose this out of other beaches around New York? It is possible that Pelleteri has explained this in her earlier book, but, not having read that, I’m left with some questions. I would recommend this book to collectors, people who love photobooks (especially images of the ocean and/or the seaside), and people with a connection to Montauk - it’s all about them after all!

Let me start by saying that I have never been to Montauk. I'm familiar with the area only through watching Showtime series, "The Affair." However, I have spent lots of time in other beach towns and understand and appreciate the unique vibe they bring.

I liked the author's introduction to her pictures. It set the stage and explained her love for her subject matter. However, I didn't see that love carried out in the photographs themselves. Several of the photos of the local businesses just made them seem run down, rather than endearing. I'm not a photographer and I often struggle to make well-worn places come through as charming. I chalk it up to my novice photography skills. But I felt her photos were similar to mine. In fact, as I looked through the photographs of skylines, restaurants, food and occasionally people, I repeatedly got the sense that I was scrolling through someone's Facebook page, rather than looking at the work of an artist.

The photographs were not all mediocre. In fact, there were several that caught my attention and made me want to stare and explore every inch. However, those were minimal.

This would make a good coffee table book for someone who has a true passion for the area. But if you don't already have a love for the subject matter, it's one I would skip.

After spending time in Montauk 11954’s beautifully color-photographed pages, I feel as if I intimately know a place I’ve never been but now want to visit. From the horseback riding at Deep Hollow to the terrestrial Hoodoos at Shadmoor, from the walking dunes at Hither Hills to the sun bathers at Ditch Plains, photographer Car Pelleteri has captured this all-American town on Long Island’s South Shore with verve and grace. Highly recommended!

Very nice visual orientation to Montauk. Perhaps some captions make it even more compelling. Thank you

I was drawn to this book as Montauk is where the TV series 'The Affair' was set and I was intrigued to see photos that show the real Montauk. I was wondering if it would be shown in a different light. I was pleased to see it has the same feel of community. The photos are stunning and illustrate the beauty of the town and it's coastline. It looks like an idyllic place to spend time surfing, swimming and enjoying the sunshine. The photos also demonstrate the importance of the fishing industry. The title of each photo is listed at the back of the book. Having seen these beautiful photos I think this is a place I would love to visit.
