The author constructed an easy-to-read sports digest complete with fascinating illustrations and prose to neatly tie everything together. Every state in the Union proudly took its place within this collection of sports memorabilia. In alphabetical order, each individual state was duly recognized for the number of coliseums it had, the professional teams within its borders, the number of trophies held to include many of the star players that contributed fortune and fame to their team. So, from whatever state you reside hail from, you won't be left out. Something of intricate value is there for everyone. Nationwide, all of the country's major stats, accomplishments and sports legends rest in the palm of your hands. This is a must book for the sports enthusiast. Sure to be a crowd-pleaser, it would look great on the coffee table or stir things up at the corner bar. It comes highly recommended.

I extend my gratitude to NetGalley and Meredith Special Interest Media/Books for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

What an amazing book! Although being a Brit, I can't vouch for the accuracy of what is contained within the pages, what I can say is that it is a brilliant dipper book for someone like me who loves American sports but who doesn't have the depth of background an American would already have grown up with. If I hadn't already picked my teams to support (Eagles, Penguins, Spurs, Red Sox and Golden Gophers) it would have been invaluable as an aid to do just that.
As well as being a geographical goldmine (apart from Boston and Jacksonville, I'm pretty clueless regarding where places are in the US), it also gives tit-bits of information about the main teams in each State including, trophy cabinet, main stars, home grown heroes, rivalries, moments from history and my favourite - the occasional mascot! A veritable wealth of information. It's also very up-to-date as it includes the Eagles recent Superbowl win.
I see from the title and all the advertising that this book is primarily targeted for kids. I say not necessarily, I'm sure it would suit adults too as it is quite full of well presented, non patronising, valuable, interesting information. I'm definitely recommending it to all my US sports loving Brit friends.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I absolutely loved this book! This is perfect for any sports fan (even if you aren't a child!) - it is filled with SO much information, photos, and facts about each state. I loved that it covered college, major league, and other assorted sporty things that each state has. It also had maps of each state showing where all the main sporty locations were. I was fascinated reading this book, and I learned a lot from it. I would definitely buy this!

Thank you Meredith and Sports Illustrated Kids for this free review copy. Atlases are fun for kids to explore, and this book puts a fun twist on an atlas by focusing on sports for each state. This a well researched and well organized sports atlas. It was fun to read the bits of sports history for states and see the facts and athletes included. Kids who enjoy sports or maps will love this book!

This is a fun book! If you enjoy sports of any kind you will enjoy this book. Kids will like it because the information is in small bites. Adults will enjoy seeing and remembering different sport events. If you live in a sports rich state you will find lots of information. Some states there just isn't as much information. It covers everything. Stars from the state and hometown heros. There's a map showing the different sports venues, whether it is football stadiums or race tracks. There is a cool schools section listing the major colleges or universities in the state, such as Alabama and Auburn in my home state along with their mascots. This book is very current because it does list Alabama's latest national championship. Adults will enjoy reliving the greatest moments from your state. If you think this book is just major sports such as football, basketball and baseball you would be wrong. There's swimming, skiing, gymnastics and so much more. This is a great reference book, sports history book and so much more.

In this book written by those geniuses from Sports Illustrated, The states go in alphabetical order, so the first thing you see is a full-page photo of the Alabama football coach. There’s stuff on stadiums, whether they’re pro franchises or college, rivalries, and so on. “Enemy of the state” was funny. Loaded—or overloaded—info graphics saturate the pages.
For most states they give equal billing to all the universities. For California they featured u$c and gave only a tiny blurb to UCLA, Cal, and Stanford. Even in the index they only mention the Trojans. The authors are dead to me.
There’s a full two-page photo of a dog surfing; neither a sport nor a stadium, just sayin’.
This is supposedly for kids, but I doubt the creators had them in mind when they made this. Especially when you consider the state of today’s youth and their short attention spans, this is more likely to be boring rather than interesting even to the most ardent sports fan.
