Another adventure with Irene, Kai and Vale set in the Invisible Library universe. Secret peace talks between the Fae and the Dragons are underway when a dragon is murdered and Irene and Vale are dispatched to find the culprit of course nothing goes as planned and Paris makes a wonderful setting.
This series is always lots of fun and this edition does not disappoint.

Irene once again finds herself in the middle of a balancing act to keep the world safe. Dragons and Fae are attempting to sign a peace treaty - and someone has tried to sabotage it. Kai, Irene, Vale, and other characters we have met in the series make an appearance as they all play their roles as the treaty process plays out while an investigation is staged into the sabotage. Can Irene keep the peace, or will this be the final straw that removes any chance for the Library to remain neutral and keep the balance? Change is coming, and this book continues the pace at a breakneck speed. Plenty of action, some new revelations as well as more questions, and the growth of our characters. Another stellar installment to the Invisible Library series.

As someone who reads a lot of series, I know that by the 5th book, series can either become stale and formulaic or expand the world of the characters. Thankfully, The Mortal Word by Genevieve Cogman falls into the latter category. In this installment, Irene has been called to a neutral world of 19th century Paris, where the Fae and the dragons are coming together to sign a peace treaty, in order to determine who killed a member of the dragon faction. Leading a time that is comprised of Vale, the Sherlock-type detective, Silver, the Fae nobleman she's dealt with before, and Mu Dan, an independent dragon. Kai is also there as a member of the dragon faction. The novel has so many twists and turns that it is impossible to describe, but what a ride it is. I continue to enjoy the worlds Cogman has created and am happy to hear she has at least three more books to come. This is one of my favorite series.

Librarian Irene along with Detective Vale and Dragon Kai are "invited" to an alternate Paris to solve a murder at the Dragon/ Fae peace conference. Adventure hits the ground running and drags them along in this fantastic installment of this adventure fantasy series. Anxiously awaited and devoured all too quickly, these are supremely enjoyable reads. Every time you think things will get better for Irene - they don't. She moves from one clue to the next dire circumstance trying to solve the murder and keep the peace talks going and protect her beloved Library. Positively the most fun you can have reading a book. ( but it is probably most advisable to read the series in order),

At this point, Genevieve Cogman is an auto-buy.Her Invisible Library series keeps on pleasing. Although I am not sure if she knows where the series is going to end up, (there is a bit of a seat-of-the-pants vibe going on) it is fun to see what she comes up with next. Looking forward to continuing the series.

Our favorite librarian is back in a new adventure! Irene is once again joined by Kai and Vale as this time they travel to an alternative Paris to solve a murder. Nothing comes easy for Irene as she does her best to solve the crime to the satisfaction of the Library, the Dragons, and the Fae and not get herself killed in the process. Another winner in this series that continues to please!

Any time a new book in this series is announced, there should be an international holiday of celebration and reading. What a treat.

Fans of Investigator Vale will be happy to know that he is back and center-stage. When an assassination takes place at a fae-dragon peace conference, he is the natural choice to find the killer. However, there are political considerations involved, and he is given a team of one librarian, one fae, and one dragon work together. Irene is, of course, the assigned librarian, and Kai, as a dragon prince, is able to insert himself wherever he'd like.

Irene, Vale, and the team must determine who is trying to derail the peace conference, and try to stay out of the path of a new sadistic enemy.

I daresay this was my favorite installment.

Another adventure with Irene, Kai, and Vale? Yes!! I was extremely excited to receive this ARC ebook from the publisher. I hate waiting for Invisible Library novels from the library because the queue is always long, and for good reason— they are full of action, and adventure.

Our favorite series characters are assembled to investigate the murder of a dragon advisor during peace negotiations between the dragons and fae. If you haven’t tried this series yet, you are missing out. I can’t wait for the next installment of Irene’s adventures!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy of this ebook in exchange for an unbiased review.

I am a huge fan of this series as well as some of our older young adult teens. This series is the reason why I love being a librarian. Our library has even read the series for our teen book club and they always ask me to sit in and give my take on the story. We even have created some of our own adventures inspired by the Invisible Library series so, we can not wait to put this book on our shelves.

The Mortal Word the Fifth Installment of the Invisible Library Series focuses on Irene's continuation of the last adventure in Vienna and returns to Paris to later find out from Bradamant that there is a dargon-fae peace conference happening in 1890s Paris and the second dragon in command has been stabbed to death. Vale and Irene immediately travel down to 1890s Paris to solve this mystery of who caused the stabbing. It seems the victim before he was stabbed uncovered some info on proof of treachery caused by the Librarians. So, who murdered the dragon, was it dragon-fae or even a Librarian?

The adventures never disappoint. Just when you thought you had the books figured it out, there is a new unexpected twist and turn that changes the entire plot that makes you not want to stop reading. We can't wait to put this book with the rest of our series on our Fiction shelves and that is why we give this book 5 stars!

I adore this series and not just because I'm a librarian. Genevieve Cogman writes the perfect blend of mystery and fantasy. She's witty and wonderful. You could start here...but do yourself a favor and read them all.

I really enjoy the world building in Cogman's Invisible Library series. It has all of my bookish catnip: libraries, kick-ass librarians, magic, dragons. Of the series so far, though, this may be my favorite. There's always some mystery to solve, some villain to go up against, in each of the books. This one, however, had more of a whodunit vibe that I really enjoyed. There was more investigating and questioning witnesses to discover the truth, plus excellent scene-stealing new characters. Solid addition to the series. I can't wait for more!
