Loved this debut novel. It’s sexy, intense, and atmospheric. I love the Cape May locale. Highly recommend this one to all types of readers of fiction.

Such a well told story, but not a good one to be told. Yikes! This is a 'fall from grace' story if there ever was one. It's the late 1950s and Effie and Henry, young newlyweds from Georgia, choose a seaside town in New Jersey for their honeymoon. It's a place that Effie had grown up going to during her summer breaks and she wants to share her love for it with Henry. The only problem is they go during the off season and most of the houses are empty - except one, which is owned by a friend of Effie's older sister. Let's just say worlds collide! You know, young and naive couple meet older, slightly jaded couple, a little too bogged down in ennui. A bit like Mayberry meets Sex in the City! Go ahead, let your imagination run wild.

It's a sordid affair with more explanations than space allows here. I'm no prude, but there was a bit of this that made me feel ill. I must admit though, I devoured the story. It's like a train wreck that's beyond any help, I just couldn't tear my eyes away! Thanks to the publishers and to NetGalley for the read.

I haven't yet reviewed this book but please know it was a compelling novel about marriage and how quickly innocence can be lost and how it can affect a long-term marriage. The epilogue was fantastic. I'll post a GoodReads/Edelweiss review soon.

A seductive book heavy on atmosphere and anticipation. For readers wanting a family saga with a healthy dose of salaciousness and betrayal.

Chip Creek's CAPE MAY is an enthralling, self-assured debut about two small-town newlyweds in 1957 who honeymoon in a beach resort town, not knowing it's the offseason. Exploring the nearly-empty town, they fall into the orbit of a bohemian group of socialites, and Henry and Effie lose themselves in lazy, magical, erotic, gin-soaked afternoons. Exploration leads to passion and betrayal, and the couple's marriage changes forever. Expertly crafted, with a strong sense of setting and deft handling of characters, Cheek's CAPE MAY is an achievement worth notice for your book group in a crowded 2019.
