This was a cute romance and an easy read and if you are looking for something to chill with for the afternoon then give this a go, while it was an okay read I did not love it for me I just did not buy Susannah as an FBI agent she was so dumb at times she just had no skills and I really did not get her and Logan together either but the secondary characters Rory and Walt I really liked if they get their own story I will read that

I got this book just recently as a reprint. I really did not know how this book was going to turn out, but after reading this authors other books I thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed. Another one of her books about two law enforcement officers one Susannah Quinn who had recently graduated from college with a degree in criminal science. Having issues with men and mostly because her father left when she was seven, and another reason also. She does not believe in love or HEA. She is by the book in her little town that she came back to after her mom had surgery, and is now a deputy. You would think everything would be good but no, D.E. Hogan who says he is a consultant for a town not too far from them keeps coming into their town every day and talking to her uncle the sheriff. Yes they met once before by chance in Houston and of course she is embarrassed by that encounter. Now seeing him every day and him dropping off paperwork for her to type is just frustrating. She does write him a ticket for double parking and a broken tail light only to have her uncle tear it up, she finally has come to her senses and delivers him a typed report with numerous mistakes and tells him to go back to his other town to get it typed. When the next day she is pulled in for an undercover assignment. She is happy until they get to the hotel and finds out he won’t tell her anything. After three days she decides to take matters into her own hands and becomes friends with the jewel thief that they are after. It is from this point on that she begins to realize change in herself and she sees a change in her mother, and with all of this she does things that only irate Hogan to the point where he must decide at the end does he go after her or let her be? Read this fun and good story with good characters to see what happens.

I enjoyed this book for quite a few reasons. First, I loved the characters and how there were multiple relationships showcased. Susannah and her mother Rory both have issues when it comes to love and they may both be wrong. Then there is that little almost one night stand Susannah had with the man standing in the little town's police station, where she just happens to work. Hogan is a hot as can be 'consultant' or is he? There is heat, passion, forgiveness, trust issues, and lots of fun.

Susannah Quinn an Alton Deputy gets her chance to do her first undercover "mission" with the FBI Agent D.E. Hogan. The catch? It's not all on the up & up.

Ok, to be frank, Suzy Q has daddy and trust issues. She can't abide a liar, she follows the rules to the letter, and is terribly naive. She wars with herself the entire book regarding her relationship or lack thereof with D.E. Hogan.

Their undercover assignment is retrieving missing family jewelry for Hogan's family without warrants. It works out in the end, but is a bit odd as Susannah befriends the "thief" & the thief marries the owner of the jewelry in the end.

Susannah acts as though she doesn't care nor want Hogan, but then lashes out with jealousy. Susannah wants to do her job, and has good intuition but let's her feelings get in the way. Not as immune to Hogan's charms, she has one last hurrah before slinking home upset Hogans lied to her. Hogan didn't divulge the information he was a Bureau man, not just a consultant.

I had thought Susannah would be "perfect" for the undercover mission due to being Thomas' type. However, she resembles his daughter who had died. It did bring her to his attention and they did get to know each other.

Love story aside, the partners are chasing down a jewel thief without using the proper channels. Susannah, after talking to the thief decides to facilitate a return of the jewelry without using the law. The thief (Thomas) and jewelry owner (Hogans step Mom) get their own HEA as it turns out it was a childish lashing out that caused the jewelry to be taken.

In the background of all this, Susannahs mother forms a romance with Hogans Uncle by marriage who is also the mayor. Susannahs mother (for most of Savannahs life) has lived the celibate life. She instills this distrust of men and love then falls in love herself after 20 years of celibacy.

Allison is Hogan's cousin by marriage. She the mayors daughter. Susannah believes her to be Hogan's ex-flame and instantly hackles are up and she's jealous. She shows her backside a bit with the possessive act, but in the end becomes friends with Allison.

It was alright, there was some wit and I enjoyed some of the banter. The story lacked a little character development and the flow was choppy. Lots of love from gun shy people on a tight time line. It felt rushed.

I'd read another if the supporting characters got their own story with some more meat to the story.

The Trouble with Love was a good read with interesting characters, an OK storyline and enough going on to maintain my attention. There were some fun moments and and banter, but what I really liked were some of the support cast; so I hope they get their own stories in the future.
