Emmie Morgan grew up with a heart condition and when she finally received a transplant and woke up, she asked her best friend, Bran Tan, to marry her. Bran, being the good friend he was, couldn’t say no. But things got weird after that and they didn’t talk for a year until Emmie’s mother invited Bran to Emmie’s rebirthday party, a celebration of the day she got her new heart.

After the party, Emmie and Bran work on getting their friendship back on track and soon decide to give romance a try. But, Emmie is so obsessed with getting married (even though she doesn’t believe in the concept of a marriage), and Bran just couldn’t take it anymore. It was time for a break while Emmie gets her head straight and Bran moves on with his life. Finding the way back to each other might be a little difficult, but with determination, they can do it.

This story was different than most I have read. The heart transplant recipient made for a unique story line. I liked Bran, but he almost seemed like a pushover in some scenes, and Emmie got on my nerves a little bit with her flakiness. But when I found out the reasons Emmie was obsessed with weddings, it all made sense. It was also obvious Bran really loved Emmie and would do anything for her health and happiness. And, the end of this book is a real tear jerker. It was obvious the author put a lot of work into this story, either with a lot of research or first hand knowledge, to make it seem so real.

Ash has the most unique storylines and characters. Emmie, a recent heart transplant recipient, has a sudden obsession with weddings. Her best friend, Brandon, has been her rock through everything. She has two sisters with very opposite personalities and a quirky mom helping to run the business. Bran and Emmie have seen more than their young lives can handle but Ash leads them through beautifully. The subject of transplants and how the recipient is affected by the changes was magically written. My copy came through Netgalley and the review written voluntarily.

The Wedding Obsession a good book. It might have taken me awhile to get into but once I did I really enjoyed the connection between the characters. A heart warming friend to possible romance storyline. Looking forward to reading more by the author Madeline Ash.

As a best friends to lovers fan, I liked this story. It gave me all the feelings, made me identify with a very challenging situation and made me root for Emmie and Bran.
The story starts right after Emmie gets a heart transplant. From that point onwards is a journey for their friendship, with ups and downs, with some learning and understanding. At some point it can even get frustrating, but again, it made reflect on the fact that people are different, and we process what happens to us in a different way.
All in all, the journey is interesting from character development point of view. If this is your type of story, I would recommend it.

The Wedding Obsession is a friends to lovers story. The book is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. The storyline includes a topic that I have not read about in a romance book. I’ve read and watched on the news about organ donation, but have not thought much about the feelings of the person receiving the organ. Madeline Ash does a good job capturing the emotions that may happen.

The book started with Emmie waking up after her heart transplant. Bran, her best friend, is at her side and she asks him to marry her. He is startled (but not against it), however Emmie retracts her proposal at waking up the next time. And their friendship comes to a sudden end.

I had a hard time staying interested. Emmie gets a new lease on life, but she has lost her best friend and she is obsessed with getting married. I actually did not like her that much. I felt sorry for Bran. The book dragged a bit too much for me. Plus I wouldn't classify it as a romance per se, more like women's fiction. It was not what I expected from reading the blurb at all but the book does have a very interesting premise about transplants (which I will not disclose) and that made the book worthwhile.

As someone who reads a crazy number of romances a week, I frequently feel as if I have read it all. Lucky for me this book had some fresh ideas attached to the friends to lovers trope (which I love when it is done well). Bran and Emmie have been best friends for a long time. They have strong feelings for each other that they didn't want to act on while she was critically ill but now that she is better somehow not only are they not together but they aren't even friends. It was an interesting plot kept me reading until the end even when other aspects seemed lackluster. I loved Bran's blog posts as they gave us a view into their relationship and his character that was otherwise lacking. I wish we had more insight into Emmie. This was my first book by this author and I found the story refreshing.

I did not love this book. To some degree it seemed more chik lit than romance. I also did not understand Emmie's character. That said it was well written and touched on a topic that I have never seen in another romance, organ donation and getting a new heart.

The story opens one year before where Emmie has had a heart transplant on opening her eyes she proposes to her close friend Brandon, then rewakes up and says forget it. Then she distances herself from B and proceeds to ignore him for the next year.

The two come together again one year later on her surgery date and decide to restart their friendship though B can't trust her because of how she has treated him. Thrown into the story is E's obsession with getting married while alsoshe says I don't want to get married.

If that sounds confusing to you, it was for me too. This book was pretty boring. B and E had no real issues and I felt E should be embracing life rather than being so miserable. For me the issue with this story was Emmie. I felt she was holding a pity party when she should have been enoying life.

This was a truly heart wrenching story that focuses on the emotions of the recipient of an organ donation and those of her loved ones. It brings up aspects of that process that most of us probably never even consider, while wrapped in a love story. My one concern involves vocabulary. The story takes place in the U.S., but some of the vocabulary is awkward as it hails from the author’s homeland, Australia. I would suggest that an American editor take a look and make the required edits prior to publication.

Sadly, this book does not live up to the promise. Emmie comes across as a self centered shallow person. Yes, she has survived a heart transplant but the character is lacking. Bran's character is better developed. But I struggled to even get half way through the book.

Story of Emmie and Ben.
At the start of the book Emmie has just had a heart transplant and when she wakes up she proposes to Ben, her best friend. But then they fall out - she is struggling to deal with life beyond her transplant and pushes him away as she doesn't want to be a burden on her friends and family any more.

One year later and he is back and trying to be friends with her again.

An interesting and emotional read.

This book was not what I expected at all. Initially I thought it too melodramatic but as I got pulled in to the story that faded away because it really was dramatic and yet everyday at the same time. My own heart ached several times - for Emmie, for Bran and for Jamie and Andres. The epilogue makes me tear up just thinking about it. This was certainly a unique friends to lovers story! I cannot even imagine the uncertainty, grief, anguish, guilt, happiness and other emotions that must have competed with one another in Em’s head and heart and Bran had to bear witness and try to support her, even when it was hard to let her walk away because she needed to. A very good read!
