Thomas W Schaller started out as an architect and turned into a famous Watercolor painter. This book is filled with 150 of his artworks. These paintings are just beautiful even the ones with very drab type settings. You also get to learn his story as you flip through this book. I loved this book. As I looked at the pictures I would envision what was going on in the painting, what Thomas Schaller might of been thinking as he painted them. IT truly was an experience to look this book.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review.

I was stunned by the beauty of Thomas Schaller's paintings in this book. Because of the effects of light and shadow in his paintings, they are somehow very real in a dream-like sense. I had not previously heard of him, and am so glad that I had the opportunity to learn about him!

This is a remarkable book that speaks through the watercolour paintings of Thomas W. Schaller.
I have a quick mind for puzzles and sums. However, I feel my sporting proess was where the rest of my talent lay.
My uncle Tony was one of those gifted individuals who could play a piano by ear.
For others foreign languages are met and learned with ease that they are truely multilingual.
Finally I am in awe of those who can not only draw but through art can convey so much more.
The thing about this book is that it will not leave you feeling inadequate or impoverised. Rather by being introduced to Thomas W Schaller. An accompliced architect his work was enhanced by an imagination that lifted a plan into a 3 D model. Not by building it but by allowing his imagination the freedom to give his hand the brush strokes to draw it within a 2 D watercolour.
What marks his genius his his use of light and sense of form.
The reader will respond not to the words but the images created to understand not in their mind but in their heart what beauty and design can be created.
The subject matter does not have to resonate with your interests, the skill, talent and creativity makes paintings with universal appeal.
The book is a record of work and accomplishments of a very talented individual who has eyes to see and then ability to replicate that for others to marvel upon and feel enriched.
I love it when a book wows me in areas I am quite ignorant about. It teaches me also to see the beauty in others and look for those things that make them special.
A critic may find fault to encourage but sometimes it is good to find positives, admire qualities in others and be encouraged by individuality.
This is a remarkable book!

Thomas W. Schaller: Architect Of Light, examines the philosophies of Thomas W. Schaller and how they shape what he paints and how he paints.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS BOOK
This book is far more than a man telling us about his artistic preferences. It is a book full of life advice, dreams, artistic integrity and how to "see". The author shares his struggles and what he has come to understanding from a lifetime of painting.

One of the features of Thomas W. Schaller's works is the use of lighting. The light effects he employs brings a vibrancy to his painting. It brought me lots of joy just to look at them.

WHO IS IT FOR
Thomas W. Schaller: Architect Of Light is not just for artists. Writers, poets,....anyone who creates will enjoy learning about how the author "sees". They may also learn the kind of mentality the author brings to his works which have garnered awards in more than 20 countries.

“Thomas W. Schaller, Architect of Light” features a gorgeous collection of 150 paintings by the well-known contemporary watercolor master. An architect for two decades, Schaller turned to fine art and today is considered one of the best watercolorists in the world. This is the first and only assemblage of his work and includes paintings of buildings, bridges, boats, people and other scenes from around the globe, as well as related essays by the artist. It is beautiful to ponder and a must-read for the collector, art-lover and practicing artist alike. Highly recommended!

A very good art book, if the writing does get a little woolly and hippie-ish at the end. I've never heard of the author/subject, but I can see he's a very good commercial watercolourist. Whether of larger architectural structures, more intimate and rural scenes or what at first appear to be the coldest snowscapes – all appealed, and he really does have a way with capturing the diaphanous atmospherics he wants. He certainly seems quite averse to green, at times, but what he says about tonal values and so on is really interesting, even to this non-artist. Steep asking price, but with so many fine representations of the man's works, this counts as well worth a look. Four and a half stars.

This book is mainly a large collection of watercolor paintings by the artist. Each chapter had some text where the artist explained how he got into watercolor painting and his journey as an artist. He did explain how he composed his paintings and how he developed his unique style. He encouraged the reader to find your own style and pursue what you enjoy painting. This book is not about watercolor techniques, but I did learn some things about composition that I hadn't thought about before. I enjoyed studying his paintings. I'd recommend this book to those interested in Schaller's paintings and style, especially if you're looking for insights into his work.

A beautiful book filled to the brim with stunning prints by this incredibly talented artist. Thomas W Schaller, originally trained as an architect and uses his skills and his insight to create wonderful images, some real, some memories. The images that stand out to me are the paintings after the rain has fallen. They are not overwhelmed with colour but the subtleties capture the light. I had not heard of this artist before reading the book and I love the way his paintings capture more than an image, they capture a feeling and a sense of being there. Schaller was clearly well travelled as these paintings portray images from all around the world. An excellent, well researched account of Thomas W Schuller and his work. Thank you to Net Galley for an ARC.
